  1. I would post this in CA section - tons of rec's there for this geography. Trump is just not a great golf course. Conditions, facility and views are phenomenal but the golf course frankly sucks - boring and overly penal. It's a PIA to get to as well. A little easier coming from the South but still in the middle of the PV peninsula. They will rent you clubs ($$$$) but other than that I would not recommend it. Los Verdes is a decent muni with a great views. POP is horrible (getting better) and I'm not sure if they rent clubs. Again, PIA to get to from Long Beach but if you can get an early tee time (before 7am) it's worth playing. Strawberry Farms and Oak Creek are a haul from LB especially with 405 traffic. Pelican too (even further south) but if you are going to drive an hour I would recommend spending the money and playing Pelican Hill. Plan on an hour each way (min) if you do decide to make the trek to the OC. In terms of Long Beach (not in any order): El Dorado Rec Park Sky Links Navy Destroyer All are decent muni's with varying degrees of condition. My top 2 are ElDo and Navy course. Not sure if any offer rental clubs (and quality of clubs if they do rent them). If you can expand a bit outside of LB proper I would look at Lakewood CC - best of the bunch in IMO Rio Hondo GC
  2. Great reviews - all of the SE PA courses you played were in my rotation for 20 yrs before I moved to LA area. I thought your reviews were spot on. Miss the Victory brewery too. They have been making great beer for 25+ yrs. Inniscrone is a tough but great track. There's a private Gil Hanse designed course in Elverson called French Creek Golf club that is fantastic. I don't miss much about PA except for the golf (and lower taxes)! LA public golf is brutal.
  3. You know there's a Golden Monkey just waiting for you over at the Victory Brewery with your name on it! So close you can taste it.
  4. I will be headed back to the BI from 8/9 through the 18th and was looking for some recommendations that weren't the aforementioned courses. I played them last time I was here and while I liked both would like to find something new. Unfortunately Hapuna is closed until later this year. I'll have a car so willing to travel a reasonable distance (staying at the Mauna Lani resort). Appreciate any/all suggestions.
  5. Limited public options near Radnor. You will need to travel about 30 min west of Radnor to find anything decent. Depending on the club your pro would be calling from I would definitely try to get on Aronimink CC. Great Donald Ross track. I think they are hosting PGA Champ next year? They are close to Radnor in Newtown Sq. You will also be near Gulph Mills (ultra private) and Phila CC, Rolling Green CC and Overbrook GC. All are excellent. Llanerch CC in Havertown is also very close. Not sure how receptive they (if any) are to reciprocal play but all are worth a shot. Oh, you will also be really close to a little not well known club called Merion GC...:)
  6. Having lived in that area for 25+ yrs (I still own a house around the corner from Pickering) most of these are worth playing (HV Presidential was my go to for years) except for Pickering Valley, Spring Hollow and Kimberton. You can skip the Club at Shannondell - not worth playing. Based on the recent courses you've been playing, most if not all of these will be let downs except for Wyncote and Broad Run, which are closer to the Frederick MD courses. Everything else is going to be a notch below. I would add Raven's Claw, Downingtown CC & Bella Vista to your potential list but they will definitely slot in the "B" to "B+" list.
  7. LuLu CC is definitely worth playing although I believe it is now fully private? Great old school Ross course.
  8. I grew up in MD not far from College Park and from the pictures I can just hear the cicadas in the trees buzzing away and see/feel the humidity in the air. Brings back childhood summer memories. Great reviews and pics from your MD leg. Who knew that the Frederick area had such great golf courses?
  9. Looks like a quality product. Thanks for the opportunity to win one. I'm in the market as I just lost my last rangefinder.
