  1. For me, I do not like the look of the 8802 or the Tour Special because I prefer the more square look of the George Low Wizard 600. The lack of corners on the former are far less attractive than the Wizard 600. I putt very well with the Wizard.
  2. My planner just told me that Hogs Head is indeed exclusive. The course is for members, their guests, and for non-guests they are more or less VVIP's, so I will go back to Adare Manor.
  3. Hogs Head is one I had not considered because I thought it was a private club, but I am now reading that they do allow visitor play? If this is the case, I will forsake Adare Manor for Hogs Head. I suppose I will have to book it a year or so in advance?
  4. We will leave in about three weeks. Still in the planning stage. I just bought tickets to Harbour Hopper. We will be flying into Halifax at 4:00 in the afternoon and I bought tickets for the Harbour Hopper Tour at 6:30. I called them and they said that I can always book for a later time and if we arrive early and there is space available they can seat us on the earlier tour. However, if we arrive late they will not let us go out on a later tour. I will give them a call and try to book the Bicycle Thief at about 8:00 in the evening, soon after we finish the tour . After dinner we will drive to Fox Harbour and stay at the resort for a couple nights and check out their golf course. I estimate that we will arrive late, about 11:00 at nijght. Are the roads to Fox Harb'r windy, dangerous, and not well-lit?
  5. I mentioned this in another thread. Suppose I am dormie in a match and all I need to do is halve a hole to win. A sinister way to win the match is to ask for friendly advice and hopefully my opponent will answer. "Which way will this putt break?" "It will break to the right about a foot, but it plays slower than it looks." Because the Rules prohibit seeking as well as giving advice, both of us would be penalized by loss of hole. I asked, which is a penalty, and he answered, which is also a penalty. So being dormie we both lost the hole, which is essentially a halve, so my opponent is closed out. There is a discussion that would imply that because I asked first, that penalty is applied immediately and I lost the hole, regardless if he answered or not. True?
  6. This does bring up a new question, which I will have to start a new thread.
  7. Darn, I was hoping I could close out my opponent. If I am dormie and my opponent asks me an advice question and I answer, I assume we both lose the hole and I close him out. Certainly if he asks me first he will lose the match, but I was hoping I could set a trap for him by asking him for advice during the hole and hopefully he will answer.
  8. I just want to verify this common situation. By Rule we can neither seek nor give advice. For a competitive round, suppose two friends are playing a match. Both players are on the green and one player is unsure of his line. "Is this putt straight or outside?" "I think it is ball outside left." So because the first player sought advice, and because the second answered and gave him advice, both are subject to penalties? Two strokes to each in medal play and loss of hole for both players in match play? So in medal play both players must hole out and add two, and in match play both players pick up their balls and move on to the next tee? Seems like an easy question. I just want to make sure.
  9. I saw this on the golf course the other day and had to take a picture. Two shots both went into a greenside bunker. The green is to the left of the picture and the white ball is directly in line between the orange ball and the hole. In a match, what does the player with the white ball do? He cannot merely mark his ball and lift and replace, since playing a buried lie from the orange ball will likely gouge out the fried-egg lie of the white ball. One can argue that the lie should be recreated, but this is a lie impossible to recreate perfectly. This situation is detrimental to the player with the white ball. What are we supposed to do in this situation?
  10. Sorry, guys, I have been away for a while. I was saying that back in the original scenario, the ball was by some unraked footprints. The lie under the ball was good, but in taking a normal stance the player would have set one of his feet on top of a crest of one of those footprints, which would have raised his foot an inch or so. In the shrewd act of digging in his foot, the golfer has lowered his raised foot to a more level position, hence improving his CATS ("meow!") and improving his stance, thus his opponent has a legitimate reason to call penalty. "Did you dig your foot in to level your stance?" "Yes, but I'm allowed to dig in my foot to test conditions." "Yes, but you cannot improve your stance." "What do you mean? So in this case I cannot dig in my feet at all?" This is indeed very murky.
