    HEAT!!!

This is the day I played Tamarisk CC. It was a very hard course to get on at the time so I didn’t want to pass on the opportunity. I think we lasted 8 holes. Zero breeze and it felt like putting your face in an oven. When I was much younger (and dumber) my main golfing buddy and I would occasionally be the first ones off in the morning at Indian Canyons South (prior to the renovation.) We’d play 18, come in for a snack and beverage and go out again. After 36 we come in for a sit down lunch and go out again to play 54. I drank water constantly throughout the round and never had to use the restroom once. We’d both look like boiled lobsters after, and it took a couple of days to fully recover. Young and dumb for sure.
  2. I tested my swing with some chips and it didn’t hurt so I moved up to 50-70 yard shots. Again not much pain so I kept hitting longer clubs until I was hitting driver. I’m swinging around 70% but the balls had a nice trajectory. My son and grand son are playing soon, and this time I don’t care what I shoot. May not even keep score. Still taking OTC pain meds several times a day and using an ice water circulation system on the shoulder, but I’m feeling pretty lucky considering how bad it could have been.
  3. Ford F-250 Superduty crew cab. I'm usually the designated driver for road trips as everything fits in the bed. When I'm driving by myself I'll grab my wife's Lexus RX350 as it's better on gas and easier to park. That actually would be a good small family vehicle as it has plenty of room inside and the clubs fit in the hatchback.
  4. While I agree with this sentiment I do think there should be a warning label when you enter the rules forum.
  5. I’m optimistic though I’m sure there will be some changes that will irritate me. The switch to the new site software comes to mind but for the most part that was an improvement. However, if the overall essence of what WRX is remains the same I’ll be able to adjust to change. And I’m a yell at clouds old guy. For now I trust the WRX guys to protect what they’ve created.
  6. 99% of my time on WRX is in the forums with an occasional visit to an article I get an email about. I really don’t know what goes on in the rest of the site so any changes there won’t affect me. I’m hoping the forums won’t be ruined by corporate ownership as I’ve seen happen to other sites. I’ve been a since 2014 and was a lurker for several years before joining. The WRX forums are where I get my golf fix, and I feel like I’ve gotten to know people here though I realize that is an illusion as in reality it’s anonymous postings from strangers. That said, WRX has some very witty posters, as well as very knowledgeable experts that make browsing on the site not only entertaining but a good use of my time as I’ve learned a lot over the years. I truly hope things don’t change.
  7. Contact the pro about it. His name is Kyle. kchappell@ledges.com
  8. For a couple of years I was the PIO (Press Information Officer) for my department responsible for press releases, doing stand ups and giving official statements. When we had a major event I was in front of the cameras and did live interviews with national “reporters” like Wolf Blitzer, the GMA crew as well as local and regional talking heads. I was trained and learned quickly that all answers needed to be super brief. Only a few seconds to answer the question and then shut up. No rambling, speculating or giving opinions. Of course a pro athlete is not disseminating facts about an incident or policy and the media wants to know about them and what they’re thinking, but I think the less they say the better it will be for them. There is a middle ground between early Tiger who didn’t give them anything and Scottie’s recent presser where he exposed too much. BTW- I never hated the media like many who had to deal with them did/do, but I was never off guard around them. They do not have your best interests in mind when they are looking to get their name attached to a hot story. In all the years I’ve had to deal with them there was only one reporter who I trusted with “off the record” background. She was ethical and ended up getting forced out of the job because of it.
  9. The Ledges is my home course and I pick the range there so my take is biased. I like it better than most of the courses in the area not counting Black Desert. Sand Hollow has never been a favorite of mine and I think playing it once is enough. Wolf Creek is ranked high nationally, but it’s not worth $300. I don’t think it’s worth $150 but I’m a frugal golfer. TBH I think Falcon Ridge in Mesquite is a better course but I only play any of the Mesquite courses in the summer when they are cheap. If I were from out of town I’d probably play Wolf Creek one time just to check it off the list. When you get closer to coming DM me if you have questions about restaurants or other touristy things in the area.
  10. While this sounds funny it sadly is true. Other activity to be cautious of include things like sneezing and coughing. I used to be a big DIY guy when I was younger due to not wanting to pay some guy to do what I could do better myself. After retiring I've changed that mindset and I happily pay someone younger to do most of the DIY projects I used to do. No more climbing on steep roofs to repair tiles even though it's technically an easy job. This recent faux pas of mine has reinforced that decision. Even if I don't wound myself working around the house I'd rather not risk injuries that would keep me from playing golf. As I reflect back on my decision to try to hit that ball I don't understand what compelled me to do it. I rationalize that it was my competitive nature, but I'd like to think that my maturity and common sense would be the voice in my head that wins out. It didn't then, but I'm pretty confident it wont happen again. On a positive note I'm out of the sling and have full use of the arm. I don't try to lift anything heavy or do anything too strenuous as it still hurts but I'm optimistic I'll be swinging a club in a couple of weeks.
  11. The matter isn’t settled actually since we stopped playing. My grandson was out of the round but my son argues he would have been at least one if not two up going to the final hole. I maintained I could have gotten up and down or be tied with one to go. Such is the nature of our games.
  12. Hey man, I am looking to book a group of 12 for next fall in the Mesquite/ St. George area. A lot of the info on this board is a few years old. We would fly into Vegas on a Wednesday and head to either St. George or Mesquite. We would prob do two nights in both areas unless you suggest otherwise? We like to stay on site to limit the driving. Do any of the good courses have 36 or where should we stay? Here is a list of courses so far but we would probably only play 4 rounds depending on the flight situation. We like to play 36, 18, 18.

    Thanks!

I really don’t have first had experience with accommodations and don’t know much about rentals on courses other than The Ledges because I volunteer there. I’ve had friends stay in the houses (condos?) there and they said the price was good and as all of the construction is new they are nice. Ledges only has 18 but it’s a good course.

Sand Hollow has two courses but one is a par 3, and the other courses you list are all 18. There are rental units near SH but I don’t know anything about them. I’m not sure if Black Desert will be an option when you come as it’s transitioning to private. I’ve never played it because of the cost. I dropped $500 for a round at Pebble but not going to pay that for something local.

The Mesquite courses you listed are good, though I’d do Wolf Creek and Falcon Ridge over Conestoga.  Another St. George option is Copper Rock, a new course that hosts an LPGA event.

If I were planning the trip I’d book a place at the Ledges and play there and either Sand Hollow or Copper Rock. There are lots of good restaurants in SG and if you haven’t had enough golf you can go to Big Shots in the evening. It’s like Top Golf and has decent bar food.

I’d then stay in Mesquite and play the courses there. Your drive to the airport is an hour shorter which may be a good thing if you play hard while you’re here.

If you do make the trip I can give you a list of restaurants etc that I’ve given to other WRX’rs.
