There are a couple of sites that host majors that you just don't mess with. You walk a little extra gently on the grass at all times. Augusta and Oakmont are at the top of that list. Those clubs don't need anything from anyone. Clark has probably already been called into the principal's office and rightfully so. Stories like this don't help the game or some of the public's perception that golf is still a game for the entitled. Reading between the lines here, it seems like Oakmont made a point with that statement and it was a double-barrel public shaming of Clark. Having some idea of what the membership looks like at that club, I would be more than a little concerned at how the Oakmont membership might define a "meaningful contribution" to a charity of their choosing. Dude better get on a heater because that check won't be light.
