I just don’t know how you can be a golf person and not find the way Scottie works the ball to be mesmerizing. In a world of bomb and gougers, Scottie is hitting slingshot draws, power cuts that start OB and somehow end up in perfect position, and flighted wedges to pinpoint precision. And he’s doing this under the most immense pressure imaginable. Yesterday he hit a 7 iron on a par 3 with a 4 iron trajectory. Why? Because he has that shot.
Dustin Johnson and Brooks Koepka are two of the dullest professional golfers ever, both on the course and off, and yet they somehow escaped the “boring” label. They’re “killers.” Make it make sense!
Moving his ball (1 stroke), and then not replacing his moved ball (ie playing from the wrong spot) (1 stroke).
Probably a good area for rules modernization when the movement is so minor that the player reasonably could not have seen it and did not materially change the lie. Give the player a penalty for moving the ball, but not a second for failing to replace.
Lowry assessed a 2-stroke penalty, per the internet.
That's just brutal luck. He wasn't even swinging close to his ball, wasn't looking at his ball, and was only "caught" because a camera happened to be zoomed in. That same thing probably happened a dozen times on the course today, but nobody was there to see it.
Haotong Li is an enigma. I thought he was the Next Big Thing like a decade ago, then he sort of disappeared into obscurity on the DP World Tour. This is the first major he's even played in since 2022. Hasn't made a major cut since 2020!
With the way this course is playing today, there's a decent chance the cut moves up to +1. BDC probably needs another birdie after this next tap-in to make sure he's in.
Not a huge surprise that when the weather's fine, he can tear the course up.
Former Phantom 1 and 2 owner, got the 3 this year because I wanted the slope function. I was nearly ready to return the thing after a couple uses because of the touchscreen - it is very sensitive and putting it in your pocket will have it changing holes constantly. Since I love the "pocketability" of the Phantom, this was kind of a dealbreaker.
However, I checked the manual and there is an easy solution - the "lock screen" function. Just hold down the power button for like a second and a little lock icon will pop up. It'll still automatically detect the hole you're on. Hold it down for a second again and it unlocks so you can switch to whatever other screen you want (or get non-slope distance readings).
