  1. I should get rid of stuff. This thread inspired me to look at my stuff and I’ve concluded that I’m a weirdo golf hoarder. These are my extras: Nike Vapor Fly Pro driver McGregor persimmon driver Taylor Made Pittsburgh Persimmon Tour Cleek Cleveland Launcher 3W Ping Rapture V2 4W Ping G425 3W 2 Ping G Crossovers Ping G425 4 hybrid (never hit) 2 Ping i20 hybrids 2 Ping G400 Max drivers Ping G410 LST driver 2 Cleveland RTX wedges Putters- Ping circa 1980 Anser, PLD Anser 30 SE, Anser re-issue, Ally 2, Scottsdale 2025 Craz-e & B63, G2i Craz-e Odyssey Metal X Milled 1W & Rossie Scotty Cameron Kombi S 2 Ray Cooks 2 Mizuno M Craft VI (different colors) Iron sets- Taylor Made RSi1 irons 4-GW Ping ISI 2-W Mizuno JPX 925 HMs 5-G A set of new Recoil 95 shafts A set of pulled KBS shafts A Ping Hoofer bag (never used)
  2. Stretch, particularly in the hips, trunk, and shoulders. There are a lot of golf stretching specific programs you can find for free on the internet. Or just do yoga which stretches your hip, core, and promotes posture. It will do wonders for your speed. Do planks. You don’t have to do a lot but do 3-5 minutes daily, or most days. It helps. Swing Speed Sticks or a similar product regularly. You’ll gain some speed even if you don’t strictly adhere to the program. It’s best to follow the program but it’s still marginally effective just casually using these things. The rest will fall into place with practice or playing.
  3. This is Scheffler’s weapon: he makes a mistake but he moves on. Nicklaus and Woods had this ability as well. Scheffler’s “Bounce Back” stat (birdie after bogey) is 35% and that’s #1 on Tour. At the PGA, his Bounce Back was at 60% and the field average was 16%. Note: I unsuccessfully tried to find career Bounce Back percentages for the top players. &nbsp Right now, Scheffler is on a heater but his mental game and willpower have developed into a strength. A golfer with a long game, short game, and utter and complete self belief will be a special case. Scheffler:
  4. Of course, if you cut it, replace the grip, and replace the weights you can convert it to a standard version. But it will also feel different with a different grip on the existing version. The stock grip is big and heavy to give it a counterbalance. Changing the weights will also make it feel different regardless if you cut it. If you cut it, change the grip, but retain the existing weights it will also feel different. So, it’s all about preference. There’s no right or wrong.
  5. There’s a certain kind of person who joins a “semi private” course but who expects the benefits of a private course. And those are the a holes you have encountered. Rich but not rich enough. Note: Most semi private course members are rational people, usually avid golfers, who don’t mind paying a little more to enjoy courses that are less crowded, and often, in better condition than munis. But these people understand and accept the tradeoffs with semi private membership.
  6. Some people need to, or should take, a break. Like for a month. Walk away and reset. That might be beneficial for you. In a similar way, if you can get yourself to feel privileged to have the opportunity to be on the course, it will reset the oppressiveness you’re experiencing. Finally, regarding the swing mechanics for which you can’t find a feel or thought, stop thinking about them. This might be hard to do, but try playing target only, without a swing thought. Play in the moment. You may hit some poor shots but you’ll hit some really good shots too.
  7. McIlroy has said Scheffler has set the bar that McIlroy and the other players are chasing. It seems reasonable to extend that sentiment to the POY deliberation. It’s Scheffler, no question. McIlroy hit one of the greatest shots in major championship history, the final round approach on 15 at Augusta, with not only the championship but his entire golfing life on the line. But ultimately he barely eked out the victory. Nonetheless, it was an incredible, stirring, and historic, i.e., career GS, performance. Scheffler’s play this year has also been incredible, stirring, and historic, i.e., various stats about majors accrued by a certain date, winning margin, etc. But his play has a different feel and quality than Rory Mcilroy’s play and McIlroy has essentially admitted this given the comment about Scheffler setting the bar.
  8. You didn’t mention how old you are but age affects the ability to spot the ball. If you’re older, try a yellow ball. It’s like magic. As far as golfing sunglasses, I’ve tried them. I didn’t notice any difference vs. conventional sunglasses regarding distance. I think golf sunglasses use lens color to highlight contrasts for reading greens? Or at least the pair I tried used that approach. However, if your sunglasses are not polarized, perhaps try a polarized pair. They work well re: contrasts at distance and may help.
  9. How old is Scotty? 29 I think? He’s figured something out that a lot of people never do or figure out late in life. What you do for (gainful) employment only defines your “soul” for better or worse, if you allow it. I don’t think the key to self regulation is necessarily having friends outside of your field, it’s having other interests and the resistance to allowing your job to infringe upon your personality, character, and self esteem.
  10. “TG” on the old Clevelands was meant to indicate it was a club with Tour specs, i.e., “Tour Grind”. So, yes, it may have been used by a Tour player. “TG” also meant there were usually different grooves, a different weight, or most commonly, a different sole grind than the retail versions. What’s the sole relief look like on your club? They also used “T” for clubs used on Tour.
  11. White is my favorite color. 100% cotton is susceptible to dinginess but the “performance fabrics” stand up a little better. Here are some steps that work, sort of: 1) Naptha Fels bar rubbing pre wash. Note: Naptha Fels has been reformulated and it no longer contains naptha, for better or worse, but it’s still helps on white shirts. 2) Oxy Clean pre wash soak in a little tub You can try Oxy Clean with the wash cycle too. I’m not sure it’s that effective in the wash. But I still end up buying new shirts annually.
