After several weeks of reading through comments, YT reviews, and other online reviews, I decided to go back to my fitter and give these a go. A few weeks ago I had tested the new T-Series line (except T100), JPX 925 Forged, Srixon ZXi series with my fitter so had an idea on comparison. Currently gaming back and forth between i530s and T200/350 combo. Since I’m on the way back to mid single digits, I was looking for something more to be desired. Mainly something more compact, better feel, and more workable. Current gamers are fine but a bit challenging to work the ball especially at my home club where shot placement on the greens come at a premium. Also haven’t been in love with current gamers especially when it comes to feel. I’m a bit of a sweeper to little divots, so wide soles and I don’t really play well on miss hits.
Once I set the AI150s, I was immediately hooked on the look at address. It was nice and compact, with the top line perfect to my eye. I wouldn’t say I was intimidated but more so hoping I could game these. After the first swing, I was like “Whoa! That felt amazing.” Then after through about 20 shots everything was repeatable and easy to hit. Dispersion and ball flight were hitting all the marks. I barely had any miss hits. Was either in the zone or these things are legit! I was getting some T100S vibes from these irons which I gamed for two seasons, but weren’t the most forgiving. These reminded me of just about everything I loved about the T100S’s but so much more easier to hit. I also didn’t see really any lost in distance which is great. Was perfect blend of feel, performance, and aesthetics to me. I was hitting my ideal numbers on the launch monitor between 44-47 on the decent angle. My bad strikes only lowered the decent angle to 42-43 at worst. Only nitpick I had was spin was slightly lower than I was used to, but at those decent angles, the ball is going to stop especially in Northwest golf conditions throughout the year and using premium balls vs. range balls. I then started hitting shape shots left to right, right to left, etc. Was so easy to control and hit on command. I thanked my fitter and immediately went home to place my order and took advantage of both the Callaway 2X trade-in special, additional 15% military/veterans discount, and applied my Callaway points. Ended up with a 6-GW Nippon 950s set-up to gap with my Ping G440 5-hybrid (decided to replace a couple months ago and have never looked back).
Now we play the waiting game.
