  1. I’m in the DFW area and also deal with windy days. I had a cheap 10x7 net from Amazon - the same net is sold under many brands. It did pretty well in the wind, although every now and then a big gust would blow it over. It didn’t work well with a radar-based launch monitor though, because it was too short. I’ve since changed to the net you’re moving away from. Because of the target sheet in front of the net, it’s more susceptible to wind, but I either stake it down, tie it off or put a couple of bricks on each side. I’ve never had an issue with it while hitting and to be safe, I just remove the side poles and collapse it if I’m concerned about wind when not in use. Takes about 15 seconds and same amount of time to prop it back up.
  2. Speaking of weather, summer has hit back with a vengeance here. After the mildest start that I can remember, we’re into the “walk outside into an oven” climate that is our norm for this time of year. I played several hours of pickleball yesterday, but indoors at 75° or so. I wouldn’t have lasted an hour if outdoors. There are 4 nearby large pickleball-only facilities that have popped up in the past 12-15 months. They’re packed. A couple of them are converted retail space and others are old warehouse space - nothing new was built. Leases were probably pretty attractive. I played at one earlier in the year when it was cold and rainy and there was hardly anyone there. I wondered how they were going to make it, but summer is their season apparently.
  3. Exactly! Sounds like he’s got a good Dad to give him perspective.
  4. I’m late to this party, but man, I’d never go back to a gas mower, or any other gas lawn equipment. I bought a Toro electric, non self-propelled, during the pandemic - so probably around 5 years ago. Granted, my lawn is small - just a normal residential lot. But not having to deal with the frustration of running out of gas while mowing only to realize the gas can is empty - truly priceless! And since there are no fluids, my mower stores vertically against the wall of the garage with the handle folded, with plenty of room to park the car. But make the right choice with the whatever battery powered tools you start with because every manufacturer has their own battery technology. I now have a Toro weed eater, leaf blower and chain saw, all with interchangeable batteries.
  5. And sponsored by Dude Wipes? I had to Google that and yep - just what I suspected. I guess when the team name is the Browns….
  6. You can’t dress trashy ‘til you spend a lot of money. - Billy Joel
  7. The city of Dallas decriminalized weed - you can no longer be arrested for possession up to 4 ounces. But I’m rarely in the Dallas city limits and our douchey state AG is contesting the city’s right to pass the law.
  8. It’s actually more lax here than you might think, at least in DFW. Possession up to 2 ounces is a misdemeanor. Denton is kind of our hippie town (primarily a college town that’s been swallowed up as DFW has expanded) and it’s only 20-25 minutes from my house. I’m sure there are plenty of sources there and everywhere around me if I took the time to look. But legally, New Mexico is the closest source and that’s an 8 hour drive to the nearest dispensary - right across the border as you might expect. Big billboard as you cross the state line coming back with a cop in sunglasses saying “You’re now a felon!” 😅 It would be sweet to have a place to go to talk to someone about different strains, as you mention above.
  9. My envy is that you guys have legal means of acquisition! As a teen, I used to dream of being able to walk into a store and buy weed. Not gonna happen here anytime soon.
  10. We have our granddaughter today, so as much as I’d enjoy a beverage and hanging at the pool, it’s not gonna happen.
  11. I enjoy listening to music on the course, but I make sure to keep the volume to where it can only be heard if you’re standing right next to my push cart. Even with that, I always ask everyone in our group if they mind. If anyone objects, I gladly turn it off. I only want to hear it while walking, not during my swing, so it’s low enough that I don’t hear it even when only a few yards away. And I can also carry on a conversation if someone is walking with me. I played with a young pair last week - a brother and sister 2some - who asked me if I’d turn it up. I declined because they were rarely close enough that they’d be able to hear it unless I really turned it up.
  12. Yes, we’ve had much more rain this summer than normal, which has also kept the temps down, so most courses are in great shape. Hopefully, the conditions will hold up, as there’s no rain in for foreseeable future and it’s getting hot.
  13. 97° on the course at the end of the round, but a strong wind off the lake kept it pleasant. Started out ok - kinda typical - and then went on a run of pars, including a closest to the pin $ hole, and finished +3 on the front. Had several good looks at birdie, but just couldn’t get them to drop. Doubled #10 and could tell that the short break didn’t help. Birdie looks became 1 putt par looks, and those weren’t dropping either. Took me few holes to get going again. I wasn’t nearly as consistent on the back and was +7 with a birdie and 2 doubles. So while I thought I had a good shot at breaking 80 after the front, I pretty much butchered the back. But I also hit some of my best shots so far this year, including 5h that had to get over a tall, mature oak only about 30 yards in front of me. I tend to hit that club with a lower trajectory, but got it up over the tree and landed the ball softly on the green. The only picture I took was a par 3 where I thought I was right on the pin. As I walked up, I realized it wasn’t that impressive after all.
  14. Open Championship Results: Scottie +50 Rory +10 Jon +5 Xander +10 Shane +5 Total: +80
  15. Yes, that was quite the comeback! But the day 1 conditions never returned.
  16. The most egregious typo I’ve ever seen was on an award certificate my son’s girlfriend received for making the Dean’s List at a community college. I can’t remember the misspelling, but it was just awful given the context.
  17. Interesting that BTO got the headline billing. I saw BTO in ‘78 and they were the opening act for Judas Priest and Foghat, which headlined the show. Judas Priest was kind of an outlier for that lineup and I wondered how they were billed ahead of BTO.
  18. I gotta find that head cover. Or one with the John Daly mixture. My regular playing partner makes up a batch of one or the other for every round we play. Regardless of tee time, it’s a first box tradition - second box if the starter is paying attention.
  19. Good stuff. As cheesy as it sounds, who didn’t crank that song up on the last day of school each year? I bought the 8-track just for that tune.
  20. Interesting to hear of others who have hit a power line with a tee shot. I did it last year and thought it was a complete fluke. Must be more common than I thought. I remember watching my ball flight - nice draw - and all of a sudden it took a right turn. Took me a second to figure out what happened.
  21. I can relate, although it appears as if our daily rain showers are over for awhile as we settle into the typical summer pattern of high 90s and sunny. We played today and for the first time in more than a month, we didn’t get rained on at any point during the round. We tee’d off at 9am, which seems the ideal start time for our weather - still in the low 80s, windy and enough sunshine to burn off some of the humidity. It was 97° when we finished, but with a nice breeze off the lake all day, it wasn’t too bad.
  22. Same here, but even as a young adult, I was surprised every year (when weather cooperated) that lower scores weren’t posted. Then I finally played a true links course, the Tribute here in DFW. While I’m sure it’s nothing compared to Ireland and it doesn’t get the weather, it does sit on a large lake with nothing to stop the wind. Completely unforgiving rough, deep bunkers and fast, undulating greens. But so much fun!
  23. I think summer has finally shown up here in DFW. I’m not sure we’ve hit 90° since late June and it has rained almost every day. But no rain today (yet). It’s pretty pleasant on the patio with a fan on and diving in the pool here and there. Took advantage of just hanging out back and threw some chicken thighs on the Kamado. Almost ready!
