Neither alcohol nor marijuana are ok when operating machinery. Drink or toke while working in a factory and you’ll be looking for another job when, not if, you’re caught. And cigars and cigarettes have been legal for the entire time this country has existed. You can’t get intoxicated/high on either of them. They won’t cause impairment in cognitive function. That’s why!

Pre-1985 Vintage Clubs Questions…

Ping Zing is the model name and it was released in 1991. https://swingyard.com/ping-irons-by-year/ -
Best classic irons
SnowbirdTom replied to DonaldDunes's topic in Hickory, Persimmon and Classic Clubs
Dumbfounded how they were point and shoot. I had at least 7 reasonable birdie putts in 18 holes. Made 2 and that’s all on me for not getting others. There were 3 lipped out. Hit and giggle clubs. The later in the round I got, the better they played. On in two on a par 5 with driver/3 iron. Second shot was blind, but the ball went right over the pin and stopped 20 feet away. ETA: I’m playing Radrick Farms, a Pete Dye classic tomorrow and torn between my modern bag and the Pings. They’re both loaded in the Jeep and making the trip. -
Best classic irons
SnowbirdTom replied to DonaldDunes's topic in Hickory, Persimmon and Classic Clubs
My vote for best classic iron set? The oft imitated Ping Eye 2s. They just refuse to die. There are many sets still in play including mine. I took them out, played a fantastic round and ask myself yet again - why isn’t this my every day set.? -
Got a good one lined up for tomorrow. Son has access to Radrick Farms and we’re on for noon tomorrow. Didn’t think that would ever happen.

Had a situation on this topic during a golf tournament. Son and I were paired up for two days with a dude that had a serious issue with pot. He was totally wasted by the turn and had us well behind the group in front. I'm talking we'd hit off the tee and head off to our shots. Look back and see this guy still sitting on the tee box in a haze. Rules will be changed next year per the organizer after a rather lengthy discussion about it. He was paired up with another group the last day and they weren't happy either. This activity has NO place on a golf course. Operating a vehicle under the influence is illegal in every state where marijuana has been legalized.

That would be the 17th green, an awesome and scenic hole. Tee off and all carry over water. Whites play about 140 yards?

Hah! I can’t putt with a $20 8802 knockoff, a $500 version is just throwing good money away.

@braincramp52 I got mine out today after re-gripping the set with good corded grips. Man, I'm with ya. These need to be my main players for the old guy's league. Long, straight and high with lots of bite on the greens. I've got 1&3 black finished woods and 2-LW irons with a '67 vintage Anser putter in my Hoofer bag. Too much fun! The flop shots with the LW are Mickelson-esque. 😆

Modernizing Classic/Vintage Clubs
SnowbirdTom replied to CoachWhitty's topic in Classic Golf And Golfers
Well, been playing various of my collected vintage sets for fun and profit. Prepping the Eye 2s to go back into action with fresh midsize grips. My hands are getting worse, so trying to take some of the stress off. They'll get tested out on dawn patrol tomorrow if the weather's reasonable. Hits: 1962 Wilson K-28 full set 1963 Wilson Turfrider irons paired with X-31 laminate woods 1989 Mizuno MS-801s and persimmons 1972 Titleist Tour persimmons and AC-108 3-SW irons Misses: 1973 MacGregor VIP split soles. I'd be better off with a trencher. 😂 1986 MacGregor Golden Bears full set. Just meh. Several other sets in the queue for play over the next few weeks. 😉 -
2025 Bag is Set Challenge (BISC) Thread!!!!!!!
SnowbirdTom replied to Dan Drake's topic in Equipment
Heh, so far out, I'm almost backing in. I've played at least 12 sets this year of various vintages and the moderns have been swapping between the 923 Forgeds and a set of Cobra RF copper irons. 5 different putters, three vintage and two modern. But! I'm having fun with all of it. -
Dull is usually the aluminum shafts. I have the X-31 laminate woods and they’re definitely aluminum shafted -> dull finish.

I'm glad I bought mine last fall while they were pure LAB. Don't think I've ever seen a PE venture turn out good for the acquired people. Or customers.

Came to the realization that there's a top limit for me now. It's been near or above the 90* and 90% humidity level and my body is not coping well. I've decided that there's a temp and humidity range that will fit my ideals and that AIN'T it. 😂. I fell apart yesterday after six holes. 7-9 were a disaster and the only reason was heat. I was lethargic/dehydrated even finishing two bottles of Gatorade in that time.

Ben hogan 1958 saber sunburst!!
SnowbirdTom replied to 3puttsRLife's topic in Hickory, Persimmon and Classic Clubs
Man, them things are beat to death. I think you should donate them to me as placeholders until I can find a nice set. 😉 -
Mizuno 923 Forged irons and not only does the gap match, I have the SW too. They play as well as any aftermarket wedges I’ve tried. 🤷🏻♂️

It's time, Pro's (and others) should get relief from divots...
SnowbirdTom replied to tgoodspe1991's topic in Tour Talk
In all honesty, this should probably been in the rules forum so it wouldn’t have been seen by 98% of the members. Many of us won’t venture there either due to the nit picking and nano-dissection of a single word. -

SnowbirdTom replied to tgoodspe1991's topic in Tour Talk
And if you read the post, I laughed about it. It was totally fair. So is hitting in a divot. If you don't like the lie, take an unplayable and drop it out of the divot. THAT was the point which sailed over your head. -

For all the divot relief folks, this is a must read. A simple, eloquent and totally truthful response to your laughable demand for relief. Here's something that happened to me worth a laugh too. I manned up and took an unplayable lie, didn't cry about it on the internet and played on. The whole group had a good laugh over it, myself included. Life's unfair, suck it up and move on. -
MacGregor VIP Limited irons - all original
SnowbirdTom replied to McSquiggles's topic in Hickory, Persimmon and Classic Clubs
The OP's set is from 1973. I have the matching set with the persimmon woods in my collection per my reference book. They've not been played by me...yet! I may just haul them to the course early tomorrow morning to try them out. Next week's league play needs some longer playing woods. 😀 Love the relatively deep face on the driver. Stay tuned. Heh, just looked at your serial number. Mine are OS6245R with the #1 stiff shafts and factory grips that were absolutely grungy. Just cleaned them up with some dawn dishsoap and a well used green scotchbrite pad. The soap ran black for a good while. -
Need Help identifying some Cobra Irons
SnowbirdTom replied to Reino's topic in Classic Golf And Golfers
Good place to start researching -> https://swingyard.com/king-cobra-irons-by-year/ By your description, I’d guess the 1992 release. -

Nothing to be gleeful about, just another hazard to deal with. Learn how to do it and move on. Next thing y’all will be carping for will be relief from those consarned sand trap thingies. 🙄 -
I play them as they come to me, except for putting on good grips when needed. No real playability issues so far in 4 years of doing it.
-
I would wager a small amount they reached out to him privately first. When he ignored that, the hammer dropped appropriately with the resultant media call out. Honestly, it should have been handled immediately at the club after it happened by the moron.

LIV Tour Discussion Thread (*** NO POLITICS ***)
SnowbirdTom replied to SheriffBooth's topic in Tour Talk
Seriously, why should anyone care about LIV players? They play closed field events and their fields are weaker than mud bricks in a torrential downpour. LPGA is way more interesting.
