Decided to do an inexpensive experiment to see if a softer compression ball would offer me anything other than saving a few bucks on balls. QStar Tour was my choice as I have liked ZStars in the past so stuck with Srixon.
Played all 18 yesterday with QST and had one of my better driving rounds in a long time. I hang out around 98-100 mph when warmed up and the QST gave me really great results in both distance and dispersion all day. Several outright bombs and loads of fairways.
I made some poor swings on the Par3’s but on 2nd shot irons, the gave me same distances as a ZStar. Maybe a bit more roll out but nothing crazy.
Full wedges were less spinny (100 yard full SW) so that was something to keep in mind.
It putted great. I loved the feel, roll and consistency off my EVNroll.
I get the ball on the ground as fast as possible for chips (not a flop shot guy) so the lower green side spin was not an issue for me and I loved the feel.
As long as I manage the full wedge yardages, I liked this 72 compression ball at my speeds. $35CAD per dozen doesn’t hurt either. Recommended!!
