  1. It really does speak to expectations/potential and how close the "almosts" were, when Jeeno hitting Top 5's in 7 of 12 individual events has a vague feeling of underperforming at all to it.
  2. I had a small dive into the Nelly numbers (very lazily...looking at the 8 tournaments of the same name she played to this point both years). In short, she improved quite a bit on some of her worst performances of 2024 while shooting slightly worse in defense of championships where the winning score required this year actually went a little bit lower (Ford, Mizuho). Remember last year she had those missed cuts at the USO and KPMG that included rounds of 80 and 81, those skew things and this year she also knocked 16 shots off her Hilton score, jumping from 16th to 2nd. Those big numbers counterbalance. TL;DR....an average is an average with all its limitations of subtlety.
  3. Great point. The number is relative and needs context...how is it compared to what others shot, not to mention variations for weather, the tournaments and courses played etc. Another variable is the sequencing. Six good rounds followed by two bad ones is different than two runs of 3 good and 1 bad....the first might lead to a win and a 30th, the second perhaps two 10th place finishes, but the same average.
  4. Lexi was not in great form arguably but really this was almost exactly the point in time where things seem to have gone south for Danielle K...she had three top tens in her 9 LPGA events prior to this (plus one in a Saudi LET event), a T10 a few weeks later but then none at all in the over 2 years since, didn't realize how much like a light switch that change was. There was some debate about how teams matched up players, particularly when switched to foursomes/singles for (semi)finals. Those decisions were described as made by the players themselves (no coach), which could be one of the interesting dynamics for the World team depending how much history they have with each other. I wonder if there's any chance someone qualified will decline to participate this time, particularly for the World team, where it's not a "national pride" situation. Scheduling is intense, eight straight weeks beginning with Hawaii, followed by five in Asia (of which this is the middle week), then the Annika in Florida leading straight into CME, all consecutive events.
  5. Short for Charlotte, so not that crazy of a mistake...
  6. So they've added live coverage for the final round as shown on the LPGA page (digital, CNBC etc). There was an article that portrayed the new commissioner as instigating it, relating it to seeing an opportunity to feature the "historic" Lottie Woad performance. (Guessing Canadians are out of luck...last time LPGA was on CNBC, we got normal CNBC programming instead...presumably a broadcast rights issue).
  7. Didn't it have something to do with the host broadcaster being a subscription service and having relatively few commercials, particularly "during" the actual sporting event (as opposed to before/after or while on some kind of intermission).
  8. Maja. Reading Tony's summary, arguably one of the featured players, 8th Rolex and 24th CME. One of the sites I use has her behind 46 (!) other players in terms of likelihood of winning this, gives her same odds as Van Dam, Emma Spitz, Luna Sabron Galmes, Perrine Delacour and Julia Ramirez. True, aside from the win, Maja hasn't done much this year. Feast or famine? (I do like Ramirez...she sits in driving distance right with EKP, Auston K, Bianca, Leblanc...surely one of these bomber types will eventually have "their week" or balance the game enough to win).
  9. Golf Channel suggests that at start of 18th hole Grace had just over a 1% chance of winning. I daresay it was down to that (or less?) again after her errant shot on the first extra hole. For someone with prior Sunday scars, surely this is a huge liberating boost for her moving forward. And what about Jeeno casually chatting as they walk the 72nd fairway. What did JessicaK call it, competition and camaraderie. Not sure who else would do it quite that way and you might argue it's not "strategically optimal" but something about Jeeno has been unique and compelling likeable right from the start.
