  1. Was it not a legit 62 or something or was he the cause of his playing partner to make a 10 on one hole today? Can't leave us hanging.
  2. Good lord, the leader shot 62 today with a 29 on the front! That is playing some high level golf!!
  3. Wouldn't that be a scoring average of 65 or is that not now JGS does it? A 65 scoring average looks darn impressive, but once you get to college, how many times are you going to play a 6700 yard track...a quick perusal of the distances that Texas played ranged from 6913-7694 with 8 of 14 tournaments over 7200 yards. The other 6 were all between 6913-7092. The average distance was 7243 with the median 7259/7213. I would think a big time SEC/B1G/B12/ACC school would want a kid who's playing those longer courses already as a Jr. Of course, I'd love a -7 average myself😁
  4. I agree, who do you add instead of Harmon? Sam Burns, Gotterup, Cantlay? I don't think it's somewhat of a problem, it's a HUGE problem. Just about a month off and then you're in what amounts to a Major in terms of stress, atmosphere, etc. If I'm Keegan, I might ask the guys to play in Napa just for the tune up aspect of it....even though the courses are not remotely similar.
  5. I looked up the exemptions for the US Jr. Am U.S. Junior Amateur Championship Full Exemption Criteria 1) State Junior Amateur Championships a. Defined by the geographic boundaries of the United States (50 states) plus Puerto Rico b. Must be a WAGR-ranked event with an average event Power of 20 or higher (3-year rolling average) c. For events not currently ranked in WAGR or who do not have a 3-year history of being ranked in WAGR:  Average event Power of 25 or greater in the two most recent years, or;  Event Power of 25 or greater in the most recent year a. Must have eligibility requirement that limits participation to residents or association members of that state and limits participation to junior golfers (17 or 18 & under) d. Only one championship per state may qualify for exemption under this category. Microsoft Word - 2025 USGA Exemption Event Criteria & Listing (Draft).docx US Jr. Am info starts on page 15. Per this document the California Jr. Am Champion does NOT get an exemption into the USJAM. That is awesome!! Happy that your son had a great experience, the USGA does things right (most of the time). What did your son shoot in his qualifier and was this his first attempt at it? I'm hoping my two see how awesome this tournament is on Saturday and want work hard to qualify in a couple of years.
  6. Because Trinity Forest is a kick a** course. These guys will have to play 36 in college so they better get use to it. To be fair, TF has very little elevation change and is a great links style course. It is the middle of July and is hot just about everywhere, though in two years it will be at Chambers Bay so temps should be decent there. Next year they visit Pennsylvania which I would imagine would be fairly humid🫠
  7. Does Keegan pick himself? He's been playing really solid all year, and could still qualify top 6 with some more high finishes in the playoffs.
  8. You honestly find JJ Spaun more entertaining than Scottie? You can honestly tell us that you turned on the TV thinking, man I wonder what JJ Spaun is shooting today, BEFORE the US Open this year? Sure he made one heck of a putt on 18 at Oakmont, but what other moment can you recall that just made you go......WOW! Scottie has a had several of those this year.....even when he wasn't winning. I love Spieth because he's a former Longhorn, and the fact he might get up & down from lord knows where, but I want to see the best player show us how it's supposed to be done....that right now is Scottie showing us how greatness really looks.
  9. As much as I like the idea of having to qualify in the state in which you reside, some people's schedules just don't allow this to happen. It is the US JR Am so why shouldn't a US based player be able to qualify wherever they choose? None of us have any idea why Kuchar played his qualifier where he did, and it doesn't matter. Shoot I did a US Mid Am qualifier in Louisiana a few years ago because it fit better with my work schedule, should I not have been allowed to do this just because I live in TX.....it is a national event! What floors me is the poster saying my kids could sign up for the California Jr. State Championship even though they live in Texas.....to me that doesn't pass the smell test....especially if the winner gets an invite to the US JR AM, but if that is what California wants to do, well so be it....I guess we'll play an event in Cali in a few years😁 I will 1000% support how the USGA supports the players of these events at the championship venues. I still have the personalized monogramed leather travel bag they gave me from 1995 (albeit in the attic gathering dust), my boys still see it every year when we get the Christmas decorations down. For most of these players it will be the biggest tournament they ever play in....why shouldn't they be made to feel special....it is a NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP and is a big deal. At EVERY USGA championship the players are made to feel like they are tour pros as well they should be. Do you have any idea how HARD it is to even qualify for a single USGA final championship? I guess in your opinion the USGA or (ANY tournament) shouldn't do anything for the players that actually made it through to the finals other than tell them what time to show up at the first tee. My youngest son qualified for the 2nd round of DCP which for him is Sunday near Dallas, so we are trying to make seeing the final of the US Jr. Am fit into the schedule for Saturday. Nothing better than seeing how SPECIAL the USGA treats its contestants and lighting a fire in my boys to try and qualify in a couple years.
  10. Since the Players Championship Scottie has had 11 top ten finishes in a row (13 for the year) including his 4 victories. Rory was POY the first half of the season but Scottie took it to another level since the Players and I don't think he's done yet. Maybe if Rory sweeps the playoffs or gets two of the events the voting would be close, but Scottie is just a freak of a player right now. Oh and in no reality is the Byron Nelson at TPC Craig Ranch anywhere close to the same win prestige wise as the ATT at Pebble.....which really should be called the Crosby.
  11. So a resident of TX (or wherever) can enter the Cali State Jr. Am?
  12. THIS right here! I qualified once back in 95 on a course in San Antonio that was sold at foreclosure auction in 2013 and is now shuttered (being turned into a park). Woodlake Golf course, held the Texas Open and was where Ben Crenshaw won his first professional event. 36 holes but it was all on one day. I do like how they give an exemption to most states JR Champion, but hate how they give exemptions based on rankings. Moral of the story is just play better I guess!
  13. My father has a bag in his house that he keeps clubs in, mostly that he's won from charity tournaments etc, well I found a brand new Titleist 816H1 with the wrapping still on the head (never been hit). It looks like 19* loft (stamped on the bottom of clubhead). My oldest needs a new 3 wood & hybrid as his current "3 wood" is a cut down Big Bertha War Bird heaven wood that goes a bit further than his 5 iron which is 29* loft. I took the head off this Titleist and is seems heavier than I would have thought. I know clubhead weights have come down (and this is an older club I know) so, would it be worth it to get a junior shaft put in or just go with a hybrid new from Flynn, Ping, USKids or find a newer OEM head he could use with jr shaft? Flynn doesn't even have an option for Titleist 816 in their hybrid shaft adapter list, so maybe that is my answer. This is the only part of his bag where he lacks quality gear. I'm thinking since 5 iron is 29* loft then maybe hybrid should be 24-20* loft and 3 wood 15-18ish? His driver is 10.5 TaylorMade M6 that we have gradually turned down the loft from +2 to standard over the course of 7 months. I just know he's going to have a growth spurt here soon as he's 11 1/2 years old and 58" tall. With my luck I'll get the new club and then POP, he'll sprout up a few inches.
  14. Didn't that player shoot 67 today for low round of the day and is now sitting T11? Don't judge a player by one round....shoot look at what JT did in the Players this year opening with a 78 and then shoots 62. Hell, Max Homa before the John Deer had just as many rounds above 72 as he had below 70 with 15 each. Sometimes a kid will have a bad round or even a bad tournament or two in a row....doesn't mean they aren't worthy of being recruited by them. I don't know anything about the Stanford men's team, but I have to believe that you have to be able to play this game pretty well to get a look by The Cardinal. If they don't want to play the NIL game that's on them because it's not like there isn't anyone within a few miles of that campus that doesn't have some nickels to pitch in to a collective for their sports teams.
  15. You mean like not being able to take a drop when your ball is in a puddle of water in the fairway during the last round of a pretty meaningful tournament after a long rain delay that dumped a ton of water on the entire course? 🤔💦 I'd agree with that stance. If you're a kid that is improving rapidly how do you not get screwed over if you get adjusted down? Also is it best to wait to play in tournaments that are JGS ranked or get in them as early as possible? Seems like it could be bad both ways if you don't play well right away.
