Played a Scottie Squarback for years. Putting inside of 10 feet was my cryptonite. I would miss two 3-5 footers a round that would ruin my day/game. I didn't know my lag putting was as bad as it was until my New Lab DF3 arrived.
At an indoor local and an acquaintance says try this. He hands me a 38 inch DFR with a 70 degree cant. I proceed to hit 3-5 from 20 plus feet, 4-5 from 12 and 2 of 5 from 20 with the missing ones whiskers away from going in. I am sold. I get fitted the next week and order the same putter just a little more upright.
Proceed 2 months later, the season has started and I am missing putts with my blade. She arrives. I take her to the course and hate it. I practice, practice, play and practice. Then a friend gives me this sage advice as I am missing putts on the putting green. "Focus on blade of grass in front of the ball and trust your putt through the ball". (I was being distracted by my length of backswing and or the movement of the big head) Boom I start dropping putts and never looking back. My HDCP has dropped from a 5 to a 3 and I am hitting putts regularly with confidence inside of 15 feet, my lag is so much better as the ball comes off the face consistently smooth. This putter amongst some other work has been a godsend inside of 10 feet. My swing thought.. "trust your line" and I am draining those sliders and those need to win putts. Confidence. Lastly, I never worry about my backswing any longer, just coming through the ball and if it is square to the target or the line on my ball (inside of 10/12 feet I use a line because of my horrible eyes).
