  1. I’ve been chewing on the last paragraph since you posted this. I think I’ve been putting my emphasis on the wrong end of the bag. Thank you for this bit of analysis; I believe a change is in order. 👍
  2. Ok, sounds interesting. What is the loft of your 7w?
  3. And that will work as long as you’re young enough to cover 200+ yds per swing. And then you get into your latter 60’s and it starts to become more interesting for most of us. 😏
  4. That’s a first step. So have you played a round without the other wedges actually in your bag? The quote from Bobby Jones about knowing your clubs extremely well is pertinent here. Keep us posted 👍
  5. I would be the first to admit that I don’t pay nearly enough attention to the Rules and their nuances. Would you please cite the rule numbers you mention in your post so I can look them up. Thank you!
  6. Love the last paragraph! Shotmaking! So much fun. I too would be lost without a tee club and putter. Loving your journey, thanks for sharing!
  7. Thank you scruffynick! Found it on Golf Compendium, Evans carried (I’ve abbreviated for shortness) 2W,3w,2i,4i,6i,9i, & p. Now I know that it was the era of hickory and handmade clubs, but still…this gapping is amazing. Wouldn’t have wanted to be a wedge maker in this era! But wait…maybe all those wedges aren’t really necessary 🤔
  8. Where can I read about Mr. Evans? Did you get this fact from a book, magazine article,…? Thanks 😊
  9. I hope it’s not coming off as some kind of rules set; because it certainly isn’t. At least if there are some official pronouncements I haven’t encountered them yet, anywhere! I think it’s more about having one hand firmly around the roots of the game and having a full awareness of two complimentary realizations: 1) what works for the top 2% of golfers is not necessarily good for the other 98% and 2) that club manufacturers are actually trying to (gasp!) sell their products and have developed marketing myths to support that end, i.e. you don’t really need all those clubs.
  10. But… would it help them play quicker? That is the question.
  11. Of course we don’t know your avg. distances, but I agree with WipeyFade (how do you get the blue member name lozenges ?). Not sure you really need the 7 or the 9; seems like D,6i,8i,pw,sw & P would work fine. Choke down 1 inch and take off 10 yards w/ the 6 & 8. YMMV.
  12. My wife loves to be out on the course with me and she needs to ride, so I do as well.
  13. Do you peg it at all, or straight off the grass? With my 3w, I have to keep a 1” tee all the way down to the cone or it will balloon 🎈 on me. And then I figured out how to hit my hybrid 3i straight w/ no little fade on the end, so a slight draw is coming, which means my 9w becomes my medium approach club, which forces a change in my iron setup….. Are we having fun yet? 🤪
  14. What is your tee club? I just switched to a high launch 3w and it’s causing a reshuffle of my bag….(sigh!)
