The R&A were pretty angry with the BBC as they were still broadcasting The Open in SD in 2015, when the European Tour had already been producing their own events in HD for a few years. The BBC also didn't even show most of the day 5 coverage when the tournament was delayed into Monday. The BBC still had a year to run on their contract, so should have covered 2016, but they gave it up early.

If any of the current majors shouldn't be a major, it's the Masters. An invitational field, limited TV coverage, next to no rough and tricked up greens.
