Hold on a sec waaaaaaaaait a minute....you mean Kadin and CO. can actually tweak the driver lie and face angle a bit if you need to?

*squeals* Certainly got my tail wagging sir!
The vast majority of titanium driver models today are manufactured through the 4 pc construction process - crown, sole/skirt, face and the hosel is the 4th piece. Since that means the hosel has to be welded on the head separately, what we did was to substitute using 6/4 titanium to make the hosel and we use one of the CP grades of pure titanium instead. CP stands for "commercially pure" which just means the titanium is non-alloyed. And that means it is softer, lower in strength, higher in ductility.

So we just picked the right CP grade which is plenty strong enough to never come close to damage or change in play, but ductile enough that with the right bending machine, the hosel can be bent to change the lie angle and the face angle. Bendability is just a smidge softer than a 431 stainless and a little firmer than a higher grade carbon steel. thus the reason we can bend any of these drivers with the CP grade hosel by +/-4* from the original design specs for the lie and face angle.

It is pretty cool to be able to do this to add a much wider range of "tweakability" in driver fitting that no other company can do. And with the 304 stainless hosels used on our 775 hybrid and 929 fwy wood models, that makes those other models able to also be bent +/-4 for lie and FA. It just takes being a tiny bit more switched on to metallurgical characteristics to open the door to broaden fitting options like this so it is more fun.

That's awesome sir! I'm def looking forward to slapping that driver around when I get it!

The way things work at Customs you might get yours before the two of us. It will be interesting to see who receives their 'fairway finder' first; MtlJeff or the PD? If I were a betting man I'd say MtlJeff as he seems to get all the love ; )

 • 2 weeks later...

Ladies and Gents after two weeks of package tracking (as Canada Customs fell in love with my Wishon's and held onto the parcel for 7 days) the clubs have finally arrived.

Here are my initial observations:

1) The 919 head shape appears a tad smaller than the profile of my R11s driver. The face appears taller and wider but the head is definitely smaller front to back. The ball is framed nicely at address.

2) The 870 Ti driving iron is similar in shape to my current G25's but there is less offset than my 5 iron. The milling in the cavity is beautiful and I really like the contrast of the polished stainless body and the slightly darker titanium cavity.

3) The 771 csi 4 iron is exactly what I was hoping for. The carbon steel body gleams against the slightly darker steel face. The topline and sole are much thinner than I expected. At address they appear more like a player's iron than a GI design. Compared to my G25's they appear to be smaller from toe to heel, but face height is about the same.

There's really nothing that I don't like so far (other than the Custom's charges). Kadin's build was flawless. All specs are spot on. The clubs look and feel outstanding.

I will be hitting the indoor simulator tomorrow morning so I will provide a few thoughts on initial performance.

Edit:

I thought I would add a few images to validate the observations I have made:

Note: My R11s was refinished by Continental Golf in a black metallic fleck finish as I couldn't stand the white.

Kinda late to this party...

Through the kindness of a fellow golf geek in the Oregon area, I had the chance to hit a 919 driver for a few months. It was only amazing, the only real problem I had with it was with spin; I seemed to be getting too much, which gave me the occasional problem upwind.

In all other ways, it was top shelf. Forgiving. Straight. Healthy length.

And that's not all! If you act now.... ;)

If you're looking for a new driver, you owe it to yourself to check out the 919. Even better now with the adjustability available.

The Ever Changing Bag!  A lot of mixing and matching
Driver: TM 300 Mini, NV75 or NV85 X -or- Cobra DarkSpeed LS, HZRDUS Green Smoke 70 X

Fwy woods:  TM SIM2 Ti, Aldila Tour Blue 85 X; King LTD 5w, RIP Beta 90 X (this may replace hybrid below)
Hybrid:  Cobra King Tec 2h or 3h, Modus 105 S

Irons grab bag:  3-GW Maltby TS4, Modus 105 S; Tommy Armour 986 Tours 2-PW, Modus 105 S; Mizuno MS-11, Modus 120 S
Wedges:  Maltby Max Milled 56° 1.05 -or- Cobra Snakebite 56°
Putter:  Cleveland HB Soft2 #8S, 34"
Balls: Maxfli Tour, Callaway Chrome Soft

Grip preference: various GripMaster leather options, Best Grips Microperfs, or Star Grip Sidewinders of assorted colors

I will share a few thoughts after my first round in the simulator this morning (playing 27 holes at Parkland Golf and Country Club).

1) I now own a Wishon 919 driver, 949mc 3 wood, 929hs 4 wood, 870 Ti driving iron, and 771 csi 4 iron. I am struck by how hot Tom's HS steel faces feel at impact on flushed shots. The balls feels like it explodes off the face.

2) I did not receive a dramatic distance boost from the 919 over my current R11s driver, but the ballflight was lower (which I desperately needed) and the shot dispersion was much tighter. A slight draw. Between the 870 driving iron and 919 driver I hit 22 or 24 fairways today (my average FIR last season was 62%) averaging 228 yards off the tee with a long of 252 (all reasonable numbers for me). The shaft is 43.75" long and the club is built to D2 so there is going to be an adjustment period.

3) When flushed I was about five yards longer with both the 771 and 870 as compared to my current set-up, but what most impressed me was their off-center hit performance. I am a heel striker (who has been know to shank the ball). I was losing approximately 10 yards when the ball was struck close to the heel.

4) I've had spotty success with hybrids over the years. On Kadin's recommendation I decided to add an 870 driving iron to the bag. This club was a solid performed off the tee today (200 - 210 yards) but I was more impressed that I had no issues elevating it from the fairway. This was a concern of mine initially as the iron is 39" long and 19*.

I need to get familiar with each of these clubs, but was impressed with their initial performance. For the first time in my golfing life I actually had confidence standing over a driver. I've never been one to blame my equipment for poor performance, but it was comforting to know that the club was custom built by a true professional; tailored to my individual needs. Next step is to finish off the bag with a full set of custom built 771 irons.

I'm excited to see the real world performance of my Wishons. Mother Nature if you are listening: please go easy on us all.

Thank you again...my ultimate goal with every fitting and build is for the player to feel that "100% confidence" with every club in the bag. :)

TYVM sir, is it an old one? I haven't even looked it up yet. It was one of only 3 single left hand Wishon clubs on the entire ebay so I just jumped on it. Lol
Here's what I can dig up about Tom's 321 hybrid design (released in 2004). For $9.99 + shipping how can you go wrong. Here's to high flying, straight shots that land softly.

Hybrid clubs were introduced in the late 1990s to offer golfers an alternative that would be far easier to hit well up in the air to fly than irons of the same low lofts. Because hybrids were viewed as a replacement for the low loft irons, hybrid shafts were designed with the same tip diameter and flex characteristics of an iron shaft.

In 2002 when Tom was designing a hybrid clubhead model for the first year of his company’s business, like everyone else, his first hybrid heads were designed to be built with a shaft designed with the same characteristics and tip diameter size as an iron shaft. However, initial testing of Tom’s 321Li hybrids with their matching 0.370” tip diameter shaft showed that the clubs were only marginally easer to hit than an iron of the same loft.

Having a wealth of experience in shaft research and testing, Tom began to think about this and decided what was needed was a matching hybrid shaft design that would not feel more flexible than an iron shaft, but which could bend more in the lower half of the shaft to help kick the ball higher in the air. As a result, Wishon developed a uniquely different hybrid shaft design with a smaller tip diameter. The smaller tip allowed the lower half of the shaft to bend more and launch the ball higher in the air. To prevent this smaller tip section of the shaft from making the whole shaft feel too flexible, Tom then increased the stiffness of the upper half of the shaft. The net result of the unique Wishon Golf GI-335 hybrid shafts was to offer golfers a shaft for the 321Li hybrid heads that generated a 3.5 degree higher launch angle than any 0.370” tip size hybrid shaft, but with the same overall stiffness feel of the larger diameter shafts.

Through the combination of the unique small tip GI-335 iron shaft with the extreme rear-CG design of the 321Li hybrid heads, Tom once again proved his ability to understand ALL of the elements of golf club performance to create a truly easy-to-hit long iron replacement that can be experienced by golfers from the very first hit. Since the GI-335 shaft design, every succeeding hybrid clubhead and hybrid shaft designed by Wishon has been done using the smaller 0.335” hosel and shaft tip diameter construction.

 • 3 weeks later...

I've had an opportunity to put the 919 in play during 9 indoor simulator (14 rounds of golf) and 2 outdoor range sessions. With the outdoor season set to begin sometime in the very near future I thought it best to provide a brief performance update.

The 919 is nearly 20 yards longer than my previous set-up. In a typical round of simulated golf I would average 210 - 220 yards off the tee with minimal roll-out. A 'bomb' would travel 240 - 250 yards. During my last 14 rounds of simulated golf I haven't averaged less than 230 yards off the tee. My best driving day saw me average 244 yards with a long of 274 (which is uncharted territory for me). I've averaged 10/14 fairways during this time (my FIR % last season was 62%) which is a definite improvement given the distance gains. My ball-flight is a 'predictable' 10 yard draw (partially connected with the 1* closed face of the 919) which is definitely longer than my typical weak fade.

I have a new-found confidence off of the tee. On holes that I'd typically pull a 3 wood or hybrid, I've been choosing to play the driver instead. Needless to say I'm incredibly excited to see the real world performance of the driver.

I'll report back when I have performed some on-course testing.
