Troon North- Scottsdale, Arizona

I'm heading to Arizona on Spring Break and my girlfriend's mom got me a round at Troon North. Just wondering if anyone has played here. Any reviews or tips? Thanks guys.

One of the premier public tracts in the state. Started the whole "Member for a day" phrase. 2nd course was added and many homes sprung up along the fairways detracting from the scenery and experience. There is some backlash against the place now as it is viewed as a self-absorbed, overpriced tourist trap but every time I go there we get treated very well and we enjoy our rounds very much. Great service, good food and better than average course conditions, if not exceptional conditioning. But I am not a local so can't speak of day to day happenings there.

Monument Course is traditionally the one most play with the Pinnacle Course being the "tougher test". However several years ago I believe they re routed and switched the back nines of both courses. You will really enjoy your round there no matter what course you play. Your girlfriends mom knows how to pick em..

Troon North is awesome. Always in great condition and amazing views. The only knock is the amount of homes on the courses, but even those are fun to look at.

I've only played it once when it was relatively new, but what a great course. I couldn't believe how well conditioned it was.

Both Troon courses are fantastic. My advice- hit it straight or take a LOT of balls. Have fun.

Stay out of the desert, almost stepped on a Gila Monster the last time I was out there the place is crawling with wildlife. Saving a $3 ball is not worth giving your life haha.

Keep your eye open for Cactus Bob. The neighborhood bobcat. Seen him a few times on the monument course.

We typically go in the summertime when it is quieter. Both courses are always in great condition and the service is outstanding. Both are in my top favorite courses in the area. Be sure to play the correct tees as it can be a handful if you're on the wrong box.

If you play Monument watch the yardage card as many of the holes will have washes that come into play cutting across the fairways. Playing it forward is not always a good thing on that course. I prefer Pinnacle over the Monument not as much target golf and some really good par 3 holes

You'll enjoy it. Always a great experience out there. I have played both courses within the last month and they are in great shop, aside from a few too many ball marks on some of the greens.

So ATAlx, how'd it go? You like it?

It was great. I really enjoyed myself. I shot an 84 which was a bit dissapointing since I play to a 3.9 HC but I didn't expect to do as well as normally because of the conditions I had never experienced. The fairways and greens were in great condition. Greens rolled alot slower than I expected and the sand was packed down hard which was surprising as well. Lost a few balls as expected haha. The staff was tremendous and just overall a great experience. I'm going to have to spend a few weeks in Scottsdale this summer and get familiar with Arizona golf. Thanks for all the reviews and tips my fellow WRXr's.

Played pinnacle in October. Not usually a fan of desert golf but was really surprised at how much I enjoyed the course. As others have said, keep it in play otherwise you're hosed. Greens were very firm when I played and the course overall was in phenomenal shape.

Only knock was the pace of play, we played in just under 5 hours. Beautiful scenery and home gawking on the course made it more tolerable but just be prepared.

Ditto all that. Played with my Dad and he hit a ball almost into a backyard, and while playing we saw that the house had a model train that ran inside the house, outside, around the backyard and back in. Awesome, and had to cost a pretty penny.

my favorite i've played in phoenix, and probably ranks as my #3 all time favorite.

it was tough, but i didn't think it was unfair at all. absolutely loved it and would pay to play again. i think i got on for $90 in Aug a couple years ago.

Yeah I was envious as multiple houses had pool parties and hottub parties going on in the middle of the day in the middle of the week. Seemed like I had a gallery following me every hole haha

Played both a few times and without fail some of the best course conditions i have ever seen. Hard to fault this place: great driving range, two great courses with really interesting hole design and scenery.

I am going to Scottsdale this weekend and plan on playing one round at Troon North.

Which course would most people recommend for one round having never played here? The person in the club house said Monument, I am a 8 handicap.
