Graphite Design Tour AD DI-6 vs. Ping PWR 65 question

Hoping to pull the trigger soon on the new i25 driver. Going with the 10.5* loft. I have a Tour AD DI-6 from my R1 and am thinking about having a Ping tip installed and put into the i25 in place of the stock PWR 65 shaft. Before I do this, a question for you all. My spin numbers are pretty good with the i25 and PWR 65 shaft (around 2500 which is far lower than any other club I've tried), however, the launch is too low...around 8.5. Would like to get it to at least 10 if possible. Would the Tour AD launch higher than the PWR 65 while keeping my spin numbers down?

Did the PING fiting cart or bag not have an AD DI for you to demo? If not I would pay the 15-20 bucks for the adaptor throw it on and see what the numbers say. Worst case you buy the i25 with the stock shaft so you have both to try out on the course and one to sell on BST. I'll have an adaptor Wednesday if you need to buy one. Good luck man

They said they didn't have one, I would think all the fitting carts have the same shaft options on them? This was at a Golf Smith store. I put my AD DI up on bst, but it hasn't sold yet so I'm thinking I'll just throw the adapter on there and give it a try. If it works, I'll hang onto the shaft and trash the Ping shaft since it probably isn't worth anything.

You could use the PWR shaft for its adapter instead of buying one also. That is what I did with my Anser... had the adapter pulled off and installed onto another shaft.

That's what I would do if I knew for sure I wanted to use the ad di shaft instead of the PWR. Thankfully an adapter isn't too expensive.

True and it is a better way to experiment now then if you don't have the shaft. However, if you can find an outside PING demo the fitters should have an AD DI. During my fitting recently.. they had the color of the rainbow of the AD DIs then I saw the 340 upcharge..Im good the Motore Speeder 661 gave me the best numbers. Good luck

Wow, $340 upcharge for the ad di?! I can't believe that shaft still brings that much new when I can't get rid of mine for less than half that! I just thought maybe the demand had gone way down, but if they can still get that on a new one maybe not. It's a great shaft for sure, but there are many other great options out there now that don't cost $340.

I know man..crazy right? I went with the Motore Speeder 661 and it was suppose to be 270. I think PING believes in their shafts that much that the prices reflect. Callaway I think the AD Di was 225 or something like that.

I called Ping a few weeks ago to ask about having my i20 reshafted and they quoted me $400 for the shaft. I asked out of curiousity what the price would be if I bought a new driver and with the AD DI and was told full retail plus $400.

Read between the lines guys. What they are really saying is they do not want to do it. I just returned from four days at Ping's HQ in Phoenix and they truly believe the high balance point design in their PWR Series shafts works best for their I Series drivers and have the data to prove it from Pingman testing.

Obviously with their prices but unfortunately my fitting said something else and so does most of their Pros.

Since I wasn't asking about the i25 I doubt that is the case. The second part is just pure marketing BS and I'm a fan of ping. No one line of shafts is "best" for every player.

I said it worked best with Pingman. I made no mention of players, pro or otherwise. That machine has essentially a "perfect" swing but cannot duplicate all swing tempos and shaft loading variations. Touring pros are notoriously conservative, superstitious and are reluctant to change what has worked well to date.

I don't think PING's marketing is BS but I do think that a company can be too proud of their equipment, e.g. 2014 Rapture wood. This just shows how important it is to be fitted to ensure the person is in the right shaft that provides the best numbers no matter what brand.

OEM's do not care about overstocking custom shafts. They are a necessary evil, that brings in profit. What doesn't sell, is sold of to a reseller that will dump them on Ebay or sells them in Asia.
