Wishon Confidence (The Eagle has landed)

Recommended Posts

The Wishon bag transformation is nearly complete as I've added a full set of MOI matched 771csi irons and a 775hs hybrid to my current set-up.

A few weeks ago I chronicled my purchase of a Wishon 919 driver, 870 driving iron, and 771 4 iron from custom club builder Kadin25. I liked the appearance and performance of the 771 so much that I sent the club back to Kadin so that he could build me a full MOI matched set.

The 771's appear to be a perfect blend of what I like in my Ping G25 and Adam CB2 iron sets. Forgiveness and playability in a pleasing profile. The clubface frames the ball nicely and the sensation at impact is a solid thwack. The high COR face feels 'hot' for lack of a better explanation.

I'm hoping the following images can add to the story:

A sheet from Tom's hand select service. I like the peace of mind that comes with the thought that Tom Wishon himself hand selected each of these heads.

The specs (loft/lie) are printed on each iron head.

Here are shots of the 771's from a variety of angles (a few ferrules appear a bit smaller, but it's an optical illusion). The heads will be shafted with Wishon's Stepless iron shafts in stiff flex.

The 775hs hybrid will also be making a trip North of the border. This club will rotate in and out of my bag with my 870ti driving iron (depending on course set-up and conditions). The hybrid will compliment my 949mc and 929hs fairway woods. It will be shafted with a Wishon White shaft in stiff flex.

I've thoroughly enjoyed my dealings with Kadin25. A professional in all aspects of his work. I am bolstered by the knowledge that he will put the correct set-up in my hands. Now the waiting begins. Here's the nice part; the courses in my local area will open right around the time that the irons will arrive.

I'm filled with Wishon confidence : )

Awesome! You know how it goes now though, no more equipment excuses for a poor round! The irons look fantastic as does the hybrid. Would you mind adding a few pics of the driving iron?

Nice looking iron heads. Love the thick soles and top line with the deep cavity and perimeter weighting. I'd love to buy a set of those iron heads 4-PW.

I've never been one to blame my equipment for a poor showing on the course. The equipment can't be blamed for the occasional hosel rocket. I chronicled the purchase of my 919 driver and 870 driving iron in the following thread: http://www.golfwrx.com/forums/topic/974566-loft-down-wishon-919-870-771-new-pics-and-a-brief-review-added-on-page-3/ Images are found on the first and third pages. The 870 ti is awesome.

The top line and sole width of the 771's are actually quite thin in comparison to the majority of GI/SGI clubs on the market. The blade length is a little longer than my CB2's but their appearance from address is very similar. My playing partner is carrying a set of Callaway Apex irons and we were shocked to find that the 771s were slightly thinner up top and down low.

PD those are absolutely beautiful! Having someone like Tom select heads and then Kadin building them has to give you all the confidence in your clubs. Can't wait to hear how they perform for you on the links. Of course, you know in the Can/US challenge you WILL be giving me even more strokes.
I don't have to question what is in my hands any longer as they've been verified and built by true professionals. I will provide a real world performance review once the season is underway and the clubs have a little mileage in them. The 4 iron was approximately 5 - 8 yards longer than my Ping G25, but I will wait to pass judgment.

As for strokes; you wish. I know you are going to spend the entire round trying to make me laugh (during my backswing).

Great stuff. Thanks for sharing - I went with the 919 driver last year and am loving it. These pics/review are making me consider wishon irons. Play well with those!

Thank you for the well wishes. I would never have stumbled into these products if it weren't for these Forums and members who are willing to share their experiences.

My ball-striking necessitates a wee-bit of forgiveness, but I really like the appearance of the Hogan iron that is displayed in your avatar. I'm happy Callaway revived, and has done justice to, the Apex line.

I can definitely notice the difference from that pic. Yeah the CB3s are actually a max gi set although forged it's got all of the characteristics of a gi set with progressive offset, wide soles and a fairly thick top line which I like. I've heard nothing but rave reviews regarding Wishon irons.

Very nice. I am also getting all Wishon'd out. 919,949,929,& 775's. Tried a demo 5 iron in the 771 and
although it was very nice looking, I wasn't thrilled with the feel or sound, more the sound, I guess.
For me it kind of felt like hitting his 775 hybrid except it was the iron. Thinking because of the two
piece design with the body and a welded face insert of a different material, also could of been the lightgraphite shaft. May try the 755pc, don't know if Kadin's done any testing with that head.

I think Cardoustie and MtlJeff are the team captains. I'll be making the road trip to take a shot at DP. The man from Chi-beria is going to get a boatload of Wishon confidence dumped on him : )

I'll definitely pick you up on the way, but I'm thinking we might have to travel out East to find Pigems.

I'll bring the Canadian only CDs. Rush, Great Big Sea, Blue Rodeo, The Guess Who, Justin Bieber (NOT!)

I support your observations. They have a distinct sound and feel at impact in comparison to my Ping G25`s and Adam CB2s. I`m sure this can be attributed to the design of the high COR face. As I said earlier in the thread it felt like the ball was rocketing off the face. The sound is similar to my previous set of Cobra UFI`s. I have been playing graphite shafts for the past 10 years and this will mark my return to steel shafts. The added weight had a positive effect on my tempo and transition.

I`d shoot Kadin25 a PM if you have questions about the 755pc`s. The appearance of the head and the addition of a `tuning port` reminds me of the Ping G25s.

The Axe shafts paired with Wishon heads are a really nice combination.

The 771 irons and 775 hybrid have arrived. The clubs are absolutely stunning in person. I'm putting together my entire Wishon bag tonight and will look to post a WITB thread in the upcoming week. My wife is working afternoons so I will have to wait until Friday evening to swing the clubs outside. I'm hoping my home course will be open so that I can take the Wishon's for a 'test drive'. I'm looking forward to a beautiful partnership. They had me at hello : )

Thank you Kadin. Exceptional work. I've thoroughly enjoyed the process from start to finish. Last up, the 919 F/D
