Love my Wishon irons... I'm looking forward to getting a custom set built at some point.

What are you currently carrying from the Wishon product line? If you could choose from Tom's current offerings what would you have custom built?

The 771's are in the Kitchen, but a stone's throw from the car. I tee off tomorrow morning at 8 am. It will be a nippy 2* with a 12 km/h wind, but there is 0% of rain. I also will play early on Easter Monday so all is good.

The clubs have performed admirably in my three rounds this year, but my short game needs a tune up after a winter spent in the simulator.

I hope your 771's have had a chance to see the sunshine Platoon.

Pigems,

I played my 4th round this morning and it feels like I've had the 771's in play for months. I feel really comfortable with the entire set (4 iron through Gap Wedge). This is my first foray into the world of MOI matched irons and I am pleased with the results. I'm seeing a repeatable draw with a mid-high ball flight.

I'm scoring well at this point in the season (mid/high 70s) but I think the best is yet to come as I'm still dialing in the driver and my short game is rusty.

I look forward to your on-course progress. It appears that your indoor results have you primed for a great start to the season.

how come other companies don't claim .83 iron heads? and does the high cor heads cause more distance control issues?
I am not aware of the design innovations that are found in other OEM iron heads.

I believe Tom has achieved an .830 COR in the 77i irons due to the inclusion of a thin high strength steel alloy face that is CNC machined to variable thicknesses. I also own an 870 ti driving iron and believe the design premise is the same (although the face materials are different). I've included a video in which Tom discusses the innovations found in the 870 ti as Tom can explain the concept much better than I can. You can clearly see the variable thickness milling in the cavity of the 870 ti below.

I have not experienced any 'hot spots' thus far but the 771's are a good 8 - 12 yards farther than my Ping G25's. The only distance control issues I'm experiencing are due to poor mechanics/contact. Although, I do believe I'm losing less distance on off-center hits. Heck, I've hit some way out on the toe and have only lost 15 yards.
Thank you for the link golfpros1. Socrates pointed me in the direction of Tutelman's website a few months back. A wealth of information that you could get bogged down in for weeks. I struggle with some of his technical information (physics was never my strong suit in school) but understand his general thoughts.

This passage stuck out:

"So the thick center acts as the rigid bar, and the thin edge acts as the leaf spring. As long as you hit somewhere on the thick part, you will see the spring behavior where increasing COR makes up for the loss from clubhead rotation. If the hit is so far off-center that it is on the thin portion, you will still get some "save" out of it -- though the COR must necessarily fall as the strike approaches the conventional, rigid frame supporting the periphery of the face."

"So let me compliment Tom on a really innovative design. Richard says it does what it intends, and now I have no reason to doubt it."

I wonder what Tom's response would be to your question. He's obviously more qualified than I.

Here are my thoughts . . .

A good swing will produce positive results with many club head designs (blade, GI, SGI, Rigid face, spring-like face, etc). I was looking to mitigate the negative results due to off-center strikes (I need the help unfortunately) and gain a bit of distance overall (I'm weak) and thus far the 771's appear to have achieve those aims.

My irons are Wishon 785HF's, 2-PW.

Yes, they are all hybrids.

And, they are all near .830 COR. Going on my 4th season with them and I haven't noticed any hot spots. They are about as forgiving as you'll find (dare I say more than the 870 and 771's due to the 785's way high MOI?) and I love the fact that they have next to no offset.

If they were cup-faced and had some sort of variable thickness face I think my brain would explode.

Tell me about the sound and feel of the 771csi.

I am looking to build my first set of Wishon's in the future and am leaning towards the 575mmc but the 771's are intriguing, but feel and sound are big for me.

Do they almost have a metal wood sound to them?
Feel and sound are so subjective. They don't feel or sound like my Ping G25's or my Wishon fairway woods. My description earlier in the thread was a 'solid thwack' because I couldn't figure out how to describe this aspect of the design. They don't have a 'tinny' or muted sound. I can tell the difference between a solid strike and toe/heel shot.

If I had the game I would consider a split set with the 771's in the 4 & 5 iron, 775 mmc's in the 6 - PW, and the HM Micro-Groove wedges in the GW, SW and LW.

I'm looking forward to a lasting relationship with the 771's. I'd love to say that I was going on my 4th season and not my 4th round. I'm ready to jump off the club carousel and devote myself to a set of clubs that suits my current needs.

I too like Tom's cup-faced and variable thickness designs. He's definitely an innovator.

May just have to build a demo of each to decide.

I will be getting a 919thi first.

I have a couple AXE shafts I plan on using.

PD.....Why did you go with the low lofted 919? Too much spin?

I currently game a r510tp 7.5* with a AXE 6+ TS and really like the flight of it, but think I could maybe gain something if I launched it a little higher consistently. Don't think I would go over 9* in a 919 though.

The r510tp is one heck of a driver, but I don't think you will be disappointed with the 919 head. It set's up beautifully behind the ball and is forgiving on off-center hits. Also, have to add I'm a big fan of Robin Arhur's shafts.

My previous 2 drivers (10.5* TM Supertri and 12* TM R11s) produced very similar ball-flights. Very high, steep angle of descent, minimal roll out, with a slight fade. I was hitting the ball 220 yards in the air with 5 yards of roll and was getting similar performance from my 3 wood. Through indoor instruction and time spent on a Flight Scope I came to discover that I was launching the ball a nearly 20* with a +5 AOA. I essentially had a big headed 5 wood that I couldn't hit off the deck. Contacted Kadin25 and through consultation with Tom they recommended that I purchase an 8* driver with a 1* closed face. I was concerned that I wasn't going to get the driver off the ground, but this has not been the case. I now slightly draw the ball with a medium ball-flight and 20+ yards of roll-out.

I now have to change my sightlines as I used to block out the left side of the course and this side is in play. Feels strange to aim up the right side of the fairway.

Im getting the 560 MCs tomorrow. Im hoping for some forgiveness with the forged Iron feel. I cant wait to hit them. Wish I could have gone to a fitter and see which one I liked best like your 771s or the 870 ti. I dont think you can go wrong though.

if the 560s are good enough for Tom then they should be fine for me.

Oh and thx for the welcome.

Ill let you know how they perform.
