Yes the Recoil Proto would be considered more butt soft and tip stiff along the lines of the DG S300. The Aldila RIP shafts are not in the bend profile database yet so I can't compare actual bend data between the two shafts. I have not worked with the RIP Tour shafts yet either, my general observation from folks who have tried both is that the Recoil Proto will launch a little lower and for some folks it feels smoother, probably due to the higher torque value than the RIP shafts. Of course the feel part is very subjective and there might be folks who prefer the RIP over the Recoil in that regard. Do you have a UST TourSPX dealer near you so you can demo the Recoil? I always recommend someone to try before buying, but even more so when moving into graphite shafts due to the price premium.

I do, and actually tried them at my fitting. It was brief as they felt kind of dead. The RIP's in Reg. felt better, thats why I decided to order them for the new irons. Just dont want to keep waiting for the back order. Was thinking maybe the Proto 110F4 soft stepped might be the ticket, or maybe even going with the OEM version of the Recoil 110.

Really lost at this point, dont know why the RIP with the lower torque, felt better and with more kick, than the Recoil that has the higher torque. Funny game!

Since you refer to 'kick', most likely you're feeling differences in the bend profile, not the torque. Torque will really only effect the feel of just the contact with the ball (and the graphite already absorbs a lot of that impact feel anyways).

Stuart,

Good point, thats why I was trying to get the info on the bend profile. I know that you have tried a lot of graphite iron shafts and the RIP's, what would be your suggestion if the RIP's get backordered again?

If you found something you sure you know you like then my best recommendation would be to be patient and wait for that shaft to become available again.

However, If the Proto F4's didn't have that kick you want then 1) I might lean toward the standard recoils instead of the proto's because they are a little softer and even then maybe still consider soft stepped or maybe even the F3's hard stepped. But I haven't actually tried the proto's so can't even give you an opinion on how much that would soften things up or if it would be enough.

I also just got my rip 90 in regular but have not had the chance to install and try it yet so I also can't really give an accurate comparison between what that feel might be and the non-proto recoils F4 that I have tried. I did notice that the difference for me between the F4 straight in and the F4 soft stepped once is very subtle so if the proto F4's are too firm for you, I would not expect soft stepping them once would be enough.

Considering all those uncertainties, unless you want to get more single shafts to test out for yourself, again, I'd say just wait for the rip's to become available.

Stuart I think your right, I hate being patient. What did you think of the NON proto Recoil F4 and what weight was it? I know you have hit the RIP, how did it compare?

I put together a demo with the recoil 95 (not proto) F4 mostly straight in unstepped. The problem is that, for me, the rip 90 stiff was soo much stiffer than anything else, it was hard to give any kind of comparison that might be usefull for you. My impression was that it was a very stable and firm shaft. Not sure if this will help or not but unstepped, the non-proto seemed similar or in the ball park to the SF i95 or i110's stiff soft stepped once and maybe just a bit firmer than the vs-proto 100 stiffs.

Keep in mind, all this testing was limited to only a handfull of swings on an indoor similator and my swing is still in it's pre-season form.

I posted this in another thread and I don't mean to hijack. When you've hit the 95 prototypes did they seem to play a bit stiff? The reason I'm asking is because I got fit in an F3 flex when I've played stiff for years now and my driver shaft, which was fitted by the same guy, is an XS. Im just curious.
