Bandon question

Heading to Bandon with a group this fall. Our 4th is somewhat up in the air. If he backs out, we would forge ahead with a group of three. Are there many singles floating about at bandon to be paired up (outside of the guys that post on this board)?

Most singles are great to play with. The fear is the dreaded single that can throw off the vibe of an entire round.

Singles usually get added to groups. Though there aren't many, they usually bring some sort jubalation to the foursome.

Yes, they will pair you up depending on the time of year you go and how busy the courses are. In the off season, I was told, they typically close one of the courses for maintenance leaving 3 constantly in rotation. In Feb, I played BT by myself with just my caddie. All of my other rounds, second one in Feb and two in Mar, I was paired up with other gentlemen.

I had a fantastic time with each and every one of them and it was a pleasure getting to know people from across the US that are just as passionate about golf as I am.

I went as a single, got paired up on morning rounds and went out by myself in the afternoon rounds.

Most of the people at Bandon (especially in the winter months) are avid golfers, if not always particularly great golfers. I've never had an issue with anyone they paired me with (now I had a caddie I didn't care for once, but that is another story). I'm sure you and your friends will have a blast.

Absolutely. I have met some great guys on both sides of the equation. We're a fun loving group that has a great time regardless how well we play. We're certainly not looking to slow down play, but wouldn't mind a photo op every now and then (I have been dreaming about this trip for far too long!!!). We've done Pinehurst, Scottsdale and Northern Michigan in recent years for our trip. Everyone says Bandon cannot be a letdown. This build up is driving me nuts!!!

I went as a single last summer,I booked tee times & stayed on the property.My first 2 rounds I was paired up with other players and my last round was just me & my caddie.Everyone in both groups I played with were great,super friendly and as happy as I was just to be playing at bandon.

Either way...by far the best golfing experience ever.

I'm one of those guys that goes on my own and have been paired up with groups a few times, but most of my rounds have been solo, which is probably more a function of the time of year I have gone, more than anything else.

I've never had a truly bad experience getting added to a group at Bandon. A couple of guys in one group were not super friendly, but I think it was because they were losing big in the Nassau games. But the bottom line is that we are all there to play golf on some of the best courses in the world, and that's all there is to do. I have yet to come across anyone who doesn't get that. Quite the opposite, really.

It's a resort so it's not like you have those cranky members floating around. Any golf course is going to fill up tee times. People are out there because they really, really want to be (it's no walk in the park to make the trip to the southern coast) I'm sure you'll be fine.

This spring I went as a twosome. We met a guy at McKees pub from Chicago that was on a business trip in Eugene. He played two rounds as a single. We didn't get to play with him but he definitely was a great guy and I'm sure a blast to play golf with. I think most people that would play Bandon as a single are golf nuts and generally fun people.

It is not like getting a single joining you at your local muni, at Bandon (particularly in the colder months) it is all avid golfers who love the game. Even more so [b]singles[/b] that show up in the off season love golf and are likely to be a decent player. I would say you have a low chance of playing with a "bad" single.

This past February our foursome turned into a sixsome for our trip. We played 8 rounds at threesomes and only 2 out of 16 tee times did we get paired with singles and it was no issue. Both times it was the sought after first thing in the am times. We like to play two a day, but if you are planning on one day and heading out mid morning for your round I think it would be unlikely to get a single.

I went to Bandon as a single since none of my friends thought that going to play golf on the Oregon coast in February was a very sane idea....... proved them wrong But to answer the OP's question about singles outside of guys that post on this board, i did get paired up with a couple of guys that were not on this site but they were golf nuts nonetheless. As has been stated, getting to Bandon is not easy, so to go out there on your own generally means that you truly love the game. And getting paired with someone else that loves the game is usually not a bad thing.

Went there as a single last July after a friend had to bail on the trip at the last minute. Was paired up during my morning rounds but not in the afternoons. Each morning round (first tee time of the day) had another single plus a two-some to fill out the group. I am a high handicapper but play on the fast side (my afternoon solo rounds were 2.5-3 hrs) -- and the other singles I encountered had varying handicaps but also played promptly, with a good mix of personalities.
