Congratulations to the both of you.

My neighbour across the street had 5 girls before he got a boy and now has 5 girls & 2 boys. If you are hoping for a girl to even things out a little… ;)

Socrates,

I couldn't survive another pregnancy (and my wife is now officially finished). The 2 successful attempts and 2 miscarriages sandwiched in between has us pooped. The challenges of conception and birth at the age of 35 are more difficult than playing 54 holes in a day : )

I hear on pulling the cord after two. We did the same. (And I did not need to see a doc)
Too hard on my wife and with both parents working I don't know how all these folks have 4, 5 or even 6 kids nowadays
My Mom and Dad had 4 of us within 4 yrs, we must have been a handful. I know my dad used to call us "curtain climbers"

My two favourite children stories.

Unique log cabin on a creek we stayed in the night of our wedding. Run by a widow, she had turned her house into a B&B as one wing was all bedrooms. She explained that her and her husband kept trying for a girl and ended up with 9 boys, and kept extending the boy's wing. After number 9 she forced her husband to go see Dr Snippers.

Family I know at a another golf club. Had twin boys but really wanted a girl.
They go thru fertility treatments hoping for a baby girl for a few years and POW ... Triplets!!!! (2 of which were girls)

'Permagrin' - fabulous word choice. I find the entire birthing experience incredibly stressful. We left the hospital at 5 pm this evening and are enjoying a 'relaxing' evening at home. Free of visitors. I love family, but I wish there was a 1 week break before the hordes descend.

I've slept so poorly this week that I'm beginning to make basic operating errors. PeanutsMommy is happy to be sleeping in her own bed this evening, but the feeding schedule is every 2 - 3 hours so I'm sure she will continue to be exhausted.

I thought our first was a struggle, it's amazing how different this experience is now that we have a toddler. I used to think I was busy, now I'm just sporting a 'permagrin' ; )

Cardoustie,

I couldn't even imagine having 5 or more children. My wife's great-grandmother had 13 children and lived to the age of 96. That's stamina. I'm thankful times have changed.

I had an incredibly stressful experience at the hospital today. When Emerson was in-utero the doctors were concerned with a potential heart defect. Yesterday we underwent cardiovascular tests that turned up a heart murmur. The little tike was forced to endure a series of tests this morning to determine if this murmur is an indication of a greater issue (a hole in his heart, faulty valve(s), or some other concern). I accompanied him to an eco-cardiogram. The ultrasound technician asked me to lie in bed with him for nearly an hour while she examined his heart. My sole task was to keep him calm, comfortable and quiet. He was a champ as he held my hand silently during the entire ordeal.

Richard, I thought of all the tests you've probably undergone this year and truly hoped that you had someone holding your hand during your treatments. I thought of my own single-mother who was by my side at every doctor's visit. I thought of how precious life truly is and how we often take so much for granted.

Emerson will never remember the hour that I spent holding his hand this morning on that hospital bed, but the experience left an indelible mark. I'm certain everything is going to work out and that this is but another speed bump on the long and winding road of life.

It's at times like these that golf seems so trivial and yet so pivotal in my life. To stride down the fairway with but one concern (the next shot) is so cathartic.

Kinda puts things in perspective. What seemed SO important yesterday, now seems kind of trivial. Emerson felt your presence on levels only babies and very young children can feel. Quite a "moment" for you both.

Pictures or it never happened.

The family is adjusting to life at home. My wife and I slept poorly last night, but Ethan wasn't bothered by the strange fellow in the next room. He woke up this morning to the sound of Emerson crying and asked my wife what the noise was, when she indicated that it was his brother he came running into the baby's bedroom to visit. Seems he had forgotten that he was now a big brother.

Here are a few images from this past week. If the weather permits I've been given the green light to take Ethan out for 9 holes of golf this weekend. My wife is planning a nap with the baby. All's good in the world.

show it to him when he is old enough.

Great idea Conrad. It has definitely been a living history. I struggle with technology at the best of times; the task would be a challenge.

I'm a big fan of Kadin25's 'Monster's' thread. If you read that thread from start to finish you can see his daughter and son develop (physically, emotionally and intellectually). It's so important to chronicle the development of our 'wee ones'. They do grow up so quickly. I can't believe how big Ethan is when placed alongside Emerson. It seems like yesterday that I was bringing him home from the hospital.

Yes, I read Kadin's thread and it is a great thread. One thing
I would like to say; As an older guy (61) it's very easy to look
out and think the world is going down the tubes. It's a common
generational thing, I know, and cliche.

Seeing people like you, and Kadin, and too many others to
mention, that have an absolute devotion to your wives and
families, and have a solid moral foundation just lights me
up. It's cathartic.

I believe golf attracts people like you because it has a
tradition of morality and camaraderie and is better because
of you. Thanks to you for sharing all this and since I know
Kadin reads this thread I want to throw a big thank you his
way as well.

A lot of troubles in the world but you are certainly bright

I've seen this thread for a little while and never clicked in it until today. I sure am glad that I did.

First off congrats PD on the healthy arrival of the little guy. It's awesome to see a community, like WRX, that can be so torn and opinionated at times come together. Reading this thread from start to now honestly made my day better.

Well done everyone involved in this thread.

Conrad,

I'm humbled by your kind words. I do agree there are many kind, [s]contentious[/s] conscientious members in the WRX community (and probably many more who are less vocal).

As Kadin so clearly demonstrates in his 'Growing Up Golf' series the game can be so beneficial to children and parents if approached properly. There is so much to be learned and gained by both sides.

Edit: Conrad, I just clued in to what you were stating later in the thread. I meant to use the word conscientious, but spelled it incorrectly and autocorrect took over. : )

Thank you for dropping by and leaving your mark. I do appreciate the well wishes.

I smiled when I read your comment. In a thread I read earlier today a member asked whether he could leave old grip tape on the shaft before a re-grip and even that subject became somewhat contentious. Grip tape . . . seriously?

Staying with the family theme. I purchased an air compressor last night and with Kadin25's guidance managed to re-grip an entire set in less than 20 minutes. My son was in the garage with me and we were both startled when I turned the compressor on as I wasn't aware that the machine was so loud. The 'little man' was so excited to expel the excess air out of the gun.

He woke up this morning and asked if we could go to the golf course. The plan is working. : )

I just read this thread, and I am not ashamed to say that I shed a tear. Mothers, Fathers, Brothers, Sisters and Children are such a gift. I do not know any of you on a personal level, but I would be honored to. One of the things Golf has provided for me over the years is great friendships. You can tell a lot about a person by playing a round of golf with them, just as you can by the devotion one shows to family and friends. Today, I am glad to be on this board, and reading this. I wish all of you the very best!

Conrad,

I went back and fixed the previous post as I meant to use the word conscientious, although threads can get contentious : )

I enjoy a spirited debate and generally don't shy away from controversial and/or heated arguments. There are certain threads and members that I've learned to avoid. I'm happy that we can discuss Mother's and children while remaining civil.

I failed to mention this earlier in the thread. I was touched to see Martin Kaymer win the Player's on Mother's Day given the relatively recent passing of his Mother. I can only imagine the wave of emotions that must have rushed over him as he stood on the 18th green after the victory had been secured.

Agree with all you said. I knew you weren't meaning "contentious".
Just having a little fun:-) It's not like we all don't slip up now and then.
I certainly do. I admit I was pulling for Jordan, but Kaymer's win was
meant to be, kinda like Justin Rose's on Father's Day last year at
the US Open.

A cool moment today; I've taken my son to the course the past two days to give the PeanutsMommy and baby an opportunity to sleep in the afternoon. On the way to the course today my son asked when Emerson was going to be able to join us for a round of golf? My heart nearly melted. The little tike is a week old tomorrow, does nothing but eat, sleep, poop, and cry and his brother can't wait for him to swing a club. Life is beautiful.

When I'm with him it's the only time that slow play truly doesn't bother me. I need to transfer that feeling of tranquillity to my 'competitive' rounds.
