Need help with Las Vegas Courses

12-16 guys heading to Las Vegas in October time. Played a few courses there before but need some suggestions. We definitely want to play Paiute - Wolf. Need a course close to strip (15-20 mins max) for departure day - we were thinking Siena. Need a good course but obviously don't want to break the bank for Friday's round. Is Primm Valley worth the 40 minute drive?

Primm Valley Lakes is very much worth the drive, was in great condition last month and is great value for a Fazio track. The other course was not in such great shape.

My fav course near the Strip is Bear's Best. Good fun and beautiful scenery.

All 3 courses at Paiute are awesome. Great place for a 36 hole day.

There's a course 45 min north of Vegas called Coyote Springs that's awesome. Played it in late March but unfortunately we got rained/winded out after just 8 holes. I have the replay vouchers that are good until April of 2015 and work for any time of day any day of the week. Would be happy to sell them to you for cheaper than the greens fee there!

I'd say Cascata but thats probably upwards of break the bank. Yet, to me, its a must play.

I liked Las Vegas national. Right by the strip and not bad pricing.

Played Siena last week - Great shape and greens running about 12. Nice enjoyable track with some diabolical bunkers. Sister course (Red Rock Arroyo) a touch nicer. Conditions at both are generally quite good.

Bear's is nice but I wouldnt pay a premium over Siena or Red Rock. Its typically over priced in my opinion.

TPC Las Vegas (was TPC Canyons) Conditions are TPC good and the course is an awesome tough desert course. I would rather play here than Bear's for the same $$$).

Primm Lakes - VERY Much worth the drive. Was there Monday and its in great condition.

National - location is great but ALWAYS has questionable conditions and nothing special about it. Play it if its significantly cheaper...otherwise skip it.

I would call each course and tell them you have 12-16 guys and you need a deal and are considering these courses. Check out Golfnow.com for pricing and tell them the deals you are looking at. You should get the best deal that way.

Thanks for the advice! We are planning our trip with My Golf Concierge as they do a great job with our other March trip each year to Orlando!

Spanish Trail or Siena are about the same in overall appeal. Spanish is a struggling club that thinks it is "private" but anyone can play it now so its just a semi-private club with a dwindling membership. Older more mature layout. It is closer to the strip, other than that I would only choose it if its the cheaper option.

Thanks everyone for the advice. Has anyone played Spanish Trail Country Club? We are thinking of playing:

Fri - Primm Valley (Lakes)
Sat - Paiute (Wolf)
Sun - Siena OR Spanish Trail

Should be a great trip.

If you are willing to drive all the way to Primm, Coyote Springs is a better golf course and probably not much further of a drive. Don't recommend Las Vegas National at all. Played it a few years ago and it was in horrible shape and not in the best area (a bunch of homes).

Just got back 3 weeks ago and played Primm Lake, and Bali Hai.

Primms greens were absolutely terrible! I would make sure they have it in better shape before you make the hike all the way down. Bali was in great shape with some pretty interesting holes. One thing is that you will feel that your in the middle of a war with all the helicopters and jets flying over you. This didn't bother me and ended up playing another round out there just because it was so close and in great shape.

Just got back from our mens club trip to Vegas. We played Badlands. Played all three nines over a two day period and we all agreed that we will never play there again. The tee boxes were all beat up. The bunkers had very little sand and the greens were as hard as the parking lot.Well struck approach shots would bounce 2 feet high and run off. Never had to fix a ball mark all weekend.
The lay out leaves a lot to be desired also. Extreme target golf with any off line shot down in the rocks or canyon.

If you're willing to take a slightly longer drive, head up to Mesquite and play Wolf Creek. One of the most fun courses I've ever played, and I've probably played it 10-15 times over the past 10 years. There are actually a few very good courses out there (Oasis, Falcon Ridge, Conestoga). Coyote Springs is also in that direction (in the absolute middle of nowhere--they intended to build a community around it and then housing crashed), but I found it similar but inferior to Paiute Wolf.

Also, if you play Wolf Creek, the best dinner in town is Gregory's at Eureka. Fine dining in an otherwise shoddy locals casino, which means $100/pp cuisine for $30/pp.
