2 iron - I'm in love!

Best move of the year for me ditching the hybrids and adding two old school Ping G2HL irons. 2 & 4 irons S400 shafts.

 

Accuracy is far superior to a hybrid, look is nicer and distance very similar.

I used to have one of those!!!

I really regret selling it. The wife said I had to "get rid of some of the clubs I wasn't using" and it didn't make the cut.

It is an AWESOME iron. When I carried it I used it for some interesting recovery shots that no other club could possibly pull off.

I absolutely love my two iron, so much in fact that I have taken out my 5 wood and added a 3 iron to boot! Since I have taken up the game, irons have been my strong suit. Can't hit hybrids to save my life, but can strike irons pretty darn well.

I seem to "come out" of hybrids very easily but always commit to the 2 iron. Strange but far more comfortable. Also find into a wind of any kind the hybrids just balloon which is not ideal for me as I play links golf.

You are not alone. I know an England international who nails his AP712 2 iron. Add in low hcp players from our local seaside links and the 2 iron is alive and kicking. The advantage is run, hybrids tend to give a floatier flight wheras a long iron, a la Tiger's stinger shot, can be drilled under the breeze and run out...if it works keep it in the bag.

I keep an eye2 2 iron around for fun off the tees but I recently stuck a steel shaft in my hybrid and swing it just like an iron. No ballooning, even in the wind. Love it now.

Routinely switch a Ping ISI 2 iron in for a 5 wood when the wind is blowing. It is more or less the same distance, yet different ball flights. Make no mistake, when the wind isn't blowing my 5 wood is in the bag. A mishit with the 2 iron yields a different result from a mishit 5 wood. You have to love it when you catch it flush.

try a Cleveland 588 MT...I believe it's bent more like a 2 iron. For me, when I want to hit something straight down the fairway off the tee, it's my go to club. Love it off the fairway too.

I always wanted to try 2 iron on the course and to use in windy conditions, like that g2 hl you were talking about. I might even buy one, considering that they don't go for too much on Ebay.

Just get a hybrid with 2 iron loft and stick a really heavy and extra stiff shaft in it. Should be able to keep it under the wind alllllll day! Saying this, I love long irons and refuse to buy a set of clubs without a 3 iron...

I got a FliHi driving iron. Love it on the range. We'll see on the course. If your are a mark crossfield fan then it is a "lumpy". Wish me luck

Couldn't play golf without my 2-iron. Mizuno MP-H4 - great that they now make a 2-iron with forgiveness.

I think I was mentally scarred as a child by a having to play a 2 iron with a shaft that didn't match the rest of my set. Now over twenty years later I'm still weary of them. Yet I have no qualms about playing a 1 iron or a 3 iron!

I knocked my 3 iron down to a 2. It's great off the tee and when it's nit, it's great for punching out!
