Salish and Gold Mountain Trip

Planning a golf trip for 8 guys on July 7th, 8th and 9th. Our current plan was to play Salish Cliffs, then 36 holes at Golf Mountain, Olympic Course in the AM and Trophy Lake in the PM. But Trophy lake has a tourney on the 9th in the Afternoon. My Questions is, Is trophy lake worth the trip to rearrange the courses we play or play 36 holes again at Gold Mountain or is there another course you would play all together. We traveling up from Portland, OR. Thanks

I've only played Salish Cliffs, Gold Mountain (Olympic) and Trophy Lake one time each, so take my advice cautiously. (I haven't played the Cascade course at Gold Mountain.) Salish Cliffs and the Olympic course are very good.

If you're looking to sample as many courses as possible, keep Trophy Lake in the mix. (Personally I wouldn't rearrange the trip just for that course.)

If you are low handicaps and want a real challenge, White Horse is about 40 minutes north of Bremerton and is inexpensive. I've played it about 10 times (from three different tee boxes) and can't decide if it's fair or just too difficult. But I like it.

The Home Course (in Dupont) is a very fine course, and should be right on your way up to Bremerton. That would be my pick to replace Trophy Lake.

(The obvious course in the area is Chambers Bay, but since you haven't mentioned it you've already played it or don't want to on this trip.)

I think we will put in the home course on the way home from gold mountain as the afternoon tee time. We have all played chambers and have mixed feeling about the course. Never played the home Course so I think that would be a good trip, heres the agenda.

Day 1- Salish Cliffs around 11am
Day 2- Gold Mountain 36 holes
Day 3- Olympic Course AM and then The Home Course on the way home back to Portland

Were staying at the Oxford Suites in Silverdale for 2 nights

I won a tournament at Whitehorse several years ago. The course was great but the houses they had built around the course fell to all the foreclosures and even had brambles growing up them, it was kinda surreal, and the club house never got built- ( they had a trailer) maybe things have changed for the better

Gold Mtn is awesome and that would be my pick

I am doing Salish later this year , have never been

They have an awesome new club house and facilities. One of the local tribes , the Suquamish?, bought the course and has done alot of work on the property.

Never played Salish but McCormick Woods is a great course if you can't get out on Trophy Lake. I personally love Trophy Lake.

Your schedule looks good, maybe try to play Salish a little earlier and try to squeeze in a twilight round at Trophy or McCormicks on your way to Silverdale? Should have plenty of light if you tee off around 5PM. I teed off at Newcastle last night at 6:19 and finished right around 9:30.

I just played the Homecourse yesterday. It is prepping for the USGA Ladies Pub Link Championship coming up soon. I would def put it on your list if you're looking for a challenging round. The fescue is up and so is the first cut. The greens are being meticulously maintained.

I also played Trophy two weeks ago on Memorial Day weekend and I would try to squeeze in a twilight round there. The fairways are just pristine and typically the course stays pretty dead in the afternoon. The course traditionally is soggy but with the nicer weather we've been having it's shaping up nicely. My threesome got around in less than 3 hours teeing off at 5pm twilight.

No offense BenTang but I'd skipp McCormick Woods altogether. It's suffered in course conditions over the last few years. I've been out when Ryan Moore bought it up but it's just not quite as good as the other courses like Trophy, Gold Mountain, or the Homecourse.

I'd stick w/ your original schedule of Salish, 36 at Olympic Course, and then finish w/ the Homecourse

No worries, I actually just played it for the first time in April and again a couple weeks later. I personally like it but would take Trophy/THC/GM over McCormick.

Ok Heres the Final Schedule and I think its gonna be fun since I have never played any of these course.

Day 1- Salish Cliffs AM and Trophy Lake PM
Day 2- 36 holes on Olympic and Cascade
Day 3- Olympic, then maybe another 18 depending on how everyone is feeling then home.

That sound Good??

I would skip cascade all together, not worth playing imho. Course conditions between olympic and cascade are night /day when i went last summer. not sure how it is now.

Salish is the best value in washington, great track.

I'd suggest you go play 36 holes at olympic.. and day 3 finish off with home course and maybe end at hawks prairie links or woodlands.
