Good point about proximity. 2 from east coast is good given the added flight expense. I'm from Portland so 4 isn't that impressive. I could add 1-2 more trips with money from an east coast flight!

Future posters, please state your home location for some context.

Zero and I want to go badly. I can't find anyone to go with. Everyone I know either won't spend the money or is unable to walk the courses.

Is there any way as a single to make the trip work ?

As far as staying there no problem. The main lodge has the smaller / cheaper rooms. Going out as a single is fine. 99% of the people you meet will be great and you'll have a better chance of getting the tee times you want.

It will cost you more but going as a single is fine. Plus you could ask your wrx brethren to join u...

With lodging included - 1 trip. Day trips over the coastals and back - about 20.

20 is nice. I'm jealous. Are you in Eugene or closer?

I'm in Portland. I've been twice and both times as a single. It was awesome.

Don't let the lack of enthusiasm/resources from your regular golfer buddies deter you. I have the same situation and got tired of waiting for everyone else to get it together. Also, they do have carts available, but you need a doctor's note to get one. I've only seen a couple in the rounds I've played there.

Only seen a couple of WAGS, too, but that's a different issue...

"take that, you miserable little white swine!"

From the San Francisco Bay Area. Have taken an annual buddies trip to Bandon for the last 12 years. Probably average 6 rounds per trip, so 72 rounds.

Yeah round count is good. You lead the out of state flight so far on # of rounds and trips. Set the bar pretty high at that, on both counts. Nice!

I call mine an even 12.

Can we set up a bandon wrx trip? How cool would that be?
While I would love it the logistics are a nightmare. Best to just find just a couple of peeps that will go with you and then let everyone else know. There was once an effort to get a PNW outing going and it went nowhere after a while. It takes a very serious and committed coordinator.

Any Oregonian who considers himself/herself an avid golfer and doesn't go to Bandon at least once a year is nuts. Especially with the winter rates and the ability to get there in 4 hours.

I go at least once a year and have been going since 2001. Group trips either in the spring or late fall and 2-day trips over the winter if the weather looks good in the forecast.

Probably 20 trips since 2001 including one trip for the Oregon Am with somewhere around 60 rounds played.

Old stuff:
1962 Tommy Armour AT2W Driver   1953 Macgregor M65W EOM 3 wood   1978 H&B PowerBilt Citation 4 wood
1984 Ben Hogan Apex PC 2-E   1968 Wilson Dual Wedge
1964 Acushnet O-SET M6S Bullseye Putter

New stuff
Titleist TSR3 10* driver (Matrix HD6 s-flex)  Titleist TSR2 18* fairway wood (Matrix Code-8 s-flex)   Adams A2P 20* hybrid (Rombax 8D07HB s-flex)
Titleist 716 MB irons 4-PW (Hogan Apex 4 shafts soft-stepped)    Callaway Mack Daddy wedges 52, 56, 60 (DG S200)

Well there may be a cost issue involved with a yearly trip to some. I'd be going there as much as I could afford and the wife would allow, which is about every other year. LOL am I half nuts then?

We have a new in-state flight leader.

Haha - I should mention that we never took a caddie, so the walking was legit. I think when I go back next March I'll probably play 1 - 2 rounds less, but take a caddie on a few of the double days instead. My 9th round was the only one I played on Bandon Dunes and I feel like I didn't get to appreciate the course enough because of how tired I was.

Fair point, but when the rounds are $70, replays are $40 and a single room in the lodge is $100 and you roll in gas and food, $250/day is a screaming deal in the winter. Shoulder season and prime season is definitely much more expensive, but with winter rates so low, if the weather is good, we are there. Even if it is only 2 rounds on a given trip.

I am surprised more WRXers from Oregon have not chimed in. I know a bunch of guys who go 2-3 times every year and they double-bubble every day they are there.

Ooh you just gave me a good "sell" for my wife! Thanks!

I think the Oregon diehards are reading this and thinking "hacks" (you and Swingem notwithstanding). I seriously want to see how high the # of rounds will get. I'm going to put a leaderboard on the first post.

I really like living in Oregon (North Carolina native) and plan on never leaving. The family loves the outdoors and quality of life here, but my favorite thing is being close to Bandon. I love that place, and I feel a little dirty when I drive over there, play for $75 in 60 degree, rain free, very light wind "winter" months.

Oregon resident (Lake Oswego) here.

Since the resort opened in 1999, I have made 13 trips (that I can remember), and played approximately 41 rounds (including the Sheep Ranch (2x) and the Preserve (4x)).

Only played Sandpines 2x and Eugune 2x on the way down.

Going often allows me to amortize the cost of excellent rain gear over a longer period of time.

The Sheep Ranch is a unique experience, but not one that needs to be repeated.

The first time I played it, our group of eight had a great time. We were the only group on the property, and could play all the holes in any direction, in any order.

Ultimately, most groups end up playing the two holes on/near the water, from different directions.

After spending an afternoon there with no caddies, we were exhausted.

The second time we played there, the uniqueness was gone, and after playing a morning round of 18 at one of the resort courses, the Sheep Ranch was a bit of a grind.

I think I've been a dozen times with probably about 40 rounds there (some were 6+ round trips, some just day trips). It helps to live 2.5 hours from the course. I hardly ever go outside of the winter months. Cheap rates, less people, and I can decide to go down when the weather looks good.
I have the same strategy: go only when the green fees are < $100. Every trip has resulted in 1-2 of the rounds in perfect weather. Plus there is a sort of sadistic appeal when it is crappy weather too. For some reason because it is Bandon the weather doesn't get you down.
