How do you like the 7 iron?

Good question - I've been out of action for 18+ months - shoulder injuries & bilateral carpal tunnel surgeries & a couple of other silliness....June is the month I've been cleared to begin strengthening...
I love 40* 7 irons & I think this one is close to that. The Set has my 2md most hated grips - WINN (the black/greed Victory is #1)....so will regrip - will probably use "Mint Grips" as I've about 4 complete sets of heads to shaft & grip.

These look amazing!

They are awesome - probably the best eBay find of my club collecting career: 1,3,4 for $100ish with 6.5 shafts. All they needed were fresh grips. I played some great golf with them at Bandon last summer.

Yesterday I picked up a set w/bag...irons were Hogan 1999 ApexPlus irons 3-E (tho, the 5 iron was missing - I had a ApexPlus 5 iron, w/Hogan Legend black graphite shaft & OEM grip,in my "orphan" club bin. The shafts were True Temper Dynamic Gold sensicore S300 & TackyMac "th soft one" grips. A MacGregor Grass-N-Sand 64* FW wedge w/MacGregor Multi-flex shaft & Tacki-Mac grip. A Distance Master Pro Titanium driver along with 3,5,7 Distance Master Pro Steel woods...all shafted w/UST Proforce 75 graphite shafts (R) & Golf Pride V-55 grips.

Also 3 putters - Ping G51 B-60, Carbite ZH, & Pat Simmons Grip Master 415CR.
There was another driver -a Velociteque Heavy Sole w/a cut down unk shaft. I've plan to keep the Ping (will be added to ~11 or 12 other Ping putters for sale) & the other 2 putters + the Heavy Sole driver will be gifted to my favorite thrift store.

The irons look to be played but in very good to excellent condition - a wee bit of PB Blaster & 0000 steel wool will clean up most of the dirt & the same PB Blaster on brass small welding brush to clean the grooves. The most I could find about the other clubs was they seem to be in the same circa as the ApexPlus irons....I think the Distance Master brand was sold by Golf Galaxy/Golfworks/Dicks. I'm stongly considering of removing the UST shafts & giving the heads to the thrift store.

Jeff Sheets: "

Model: Apex Plus Irons
Material: Billet Forged 1030 Carbon Steel with Nickel/Chrome Plating
Introduction: 2000

I had originally been asked to produce more of a game improvement version of the Apex Plus iron by Spalding upper management. While it turned out to be a fine product in its own right it did not appeal to our R&D group or the team of ex-Hoganites we were working with in Ft. Worth, Texas. Fortunately I was able to convince our managing director that a serious players’ game forgiveness version needed to hit the market before a game improvement version did. I left the company just as we were wrapping up design, development and testing of the Apex Plus irons. The model was overwhelmingly received by the Hogan faithful but we had a challenge getting them to perform up to expectation with the Apex shafts. Forged by Endo Manufacturing in Japan."

I find that Jeff Sheets says above that they were introduced in 2000, however his poster says 1999😂

Distance Master was a line of component heads from The Golfworks.  Everything of theirs I've ever tried has been good.

It is amusing to read some of the threads in other places about Maltby clubs.  Some people want to love them but they believe the ball knows it's being hit by something other than a club made by one of the major OEMs, so therefore the performance is going to be inferior.

Thanks.....I wondered about the DM line.  The whole set was well cared for & quite clean. I'm still up in the air about removing the ProForce 75 shafts to use elsewhere (coule they be shafted to persimmons, I wonder?)

Totaly agree with you abouut the "looking down their noses" at anything that isn't offered by major brands (wonder if it's the same individuals who think that ALL retain from any era or inferior). I loved Golfsmith...always treated w/respect. Golf Galaxy on the other hand - nothing but disrespect, I won't step foot in any of their stores that still exist. I have no choice w/Dicks (who bought both), those who are too snooty to use component clubs, they're just displaying their ignorance....ie. Jeff Sheets is not boob designer - yeah, he designed the '99 Apex & ApexPlus for Hogan, he also designed for Golfsmith & Macgregor, who was owned by Golfsmith at the time..

If the persimmon heads were made with a .335 bore, as the more recent ones were, than those shafts could work.

If they are older ones that are .294, or even .277, taper tip, they'd have to be re-bored and it's not something I would attempt.

Stopped at goodwill today and made an unexpected find.  Had no idea what brand they were but for $1 I figured I can’t go wrong. These were NIP and I couldn’t see anything other then the Penn Ventilator,  so I had to open them to see exactly what they were.  From some quick internet sleuthing it looks like these were made by Plymouth Golf Ball company, who was founded in 1916 and acquired by Shakespeare in 1968.  I know it’s a long shot but anyone  have any experience with Plymouth Golf balls?

Learned recently that Plymouth Golf Company manufactured Gray Goose balls.  image.png.b3cd449617a2f3d452bd8821e11663ca.png

This thread brings back some great memories as the DM Pro 460 was my first 460 cc driver.  Back in the '00's, when my kids were young,I was playing very infrequently, usually only a few times a year.  I remember playing in a scramble with my neighbor (a PGA pro and the director of golf at a local course) who had a big headed Ping, probably a G5 or G10 and feeling totally outgunned with my old reliable TaylorMade Ti Bubble driver.

At the time, the local Golf Galaxy had a limited supply of Golfworks components in-store and the head I chose set up better than its twin they had in stock, so I grabbed it.   It has a super deep face and is basically shaped like a persimmon on steroids.  I remember thinking what a steal it was at $55 and what a luxury it was to hand pick a head vs ordering off a website.  I glued it up with a Snake Eyes branded Prolaunch Blue from the Golfsmith down the street and took it out cold to another scramble and proceeded to have the best driving day of my life, the highlight being a near albatross on a short par 4 while the group ahead was putting out.  Oops, had no inkling they'd be in play.  One of the guys in my group was playing a shiny new TaylorMade driver, guessing a spendy R7 and was very impressed when I let him try the DM460.  I just shafted it up with a Ping Alta CB 55 from a golf buddy for nostalgia's sake- maybe there's some magic left in it...

Unhit 1983 Mizuno MS-2 in pristine condition. Acquired from the estate of gentleman who received it as a retirement gift in 1985, and promptly put it in a closet for the next 40 years. To be sold to me...

Congrats man! I’m envious.

I have a couple unlit Cleveland Classics that I can’t get myself to use as of yet. I know they are tools not jewels but they are only new once. Great seeing stuff like this.,
