kailam19

Recommended Posts

Ill be in vegas next week, hopefully we can withstand the weather and try to golf

but checking on some decent deals on golfnow but trying to get a recommendation on where to play

Courses that are an option

Primm Valley Lakes

Arroyo at Red Rock (Most likely as its the closest)

Siena

Badlands

how are the conditions at each and which would you play

Thanks for the time!

They will all be rough as overseed is right around the corner.

Do you like target golf? If not then scratch Badlands. Primm is about an hour each direction driving time. Arroyo and Siena are decent layouts so if you don't mind some rough spots that would be the order.

However, if you want best conditions, drive north to Paiute.

Bumping this thread. I'll be heading out to Vegas Oct 22nd - 26th to see a buddy attending UNLV. What course reccomendations are there? We are all former golf employees w/ single digit handi's and prefer to play tough courses w/ smooth greens above a 10 stimp.

I understand the whole LV area generally goes through their seeding around this time but what courses are not to miss. We are also on a budget so nothing over $100 round. I'm willing to get a rental car and drive upwards of an hour out of town.

Budget number is going to be the hard part as it's in season so rates are the highest. If you can do twilight rounds then go any of the Paiute courses, Rio Secco, Coyote Springs, Wolf Creek.

Rio Secco is on our list, one of guys has an uncle that is a member there. I will keep the other courses in mind. I know my buddy in LV said there's quite a bit of selection on golfnow too.

Just curious, because I'm not a gambler or at least not a good one, if I were to hit up the casino's are there any that will comp you free rounds?

Nah, only course run now by casinos is Wynn and that is high dollar for crap conditions.

Probably could get a good deal at golfnow rather than deal with a concierge.

I have been given free rounds at Las Vegas Country Club while staying at LVH (Las Vegas Hotel previously Las Vegas Hilton), if you are not a frequent player, you can still get a rate of $95. You can also get reduced rates at Arroyo and Sienna from Red Rock Casino. Bear's Best is also near Red Rock and cost is under $100. Years ago, I played the Sahara, but think it is gone now. I really miss the Desert Inn.

LVH is now Westgate so I don't know if they will still honor the LVCC deal. My buddy stayed there last year and we played LVCC, great layout.

Arroyo and Siena are ok tracks but if you can score Bear's Best for under $100 in season then definitely play that one.

LVH has indeed changed names. They still offer some golf packages. here is a link:

not sure anymore about Bear's Best. Last time I checked it was off season. I seem to recall regular rate is $120 but may have gone up. Paul Wilson is teaching pro there.

If there are several of you going together, then think about a Mesquite/Coyote Springs jaunt. 1.5 hours north, but if you split the driving and just say you're blocking out the whole day, you'll be fine. Mesquite area has about 4-5 courses that do not disappoint and are much cheaper and less crowded than Vegas.

$150/night is not bad given the round is included.

While this is correct, it should be noted that I-15 is down to one lane due to the storms we had last Friday so if considering the Mesquite area to call ahead for current conditions and plan for extra travel time.

I only glanced at the link for Westgate. My guess is, the $150 is accommodations per night including ONE round of golf for two. I've only played there twice and never had to pay as we were comp'd at the hotel and that included a round of golf for two.

Im headed to vegas friday coming from LA. I have a afternoon tee time at coyote springs on friday, and a morning tee time at wolf creek sunday. Where is the 15 closed down, and are there any better routes to take?
If the freeway is open before Barstow, you could cut across at Baker through Shoshone/Parumph. It will come out right on the strip, but it is a bit of a detour through the desert and over a mountain.

Wynn actually was on Golfnow about a year ago, I booked a twosome on there. Same $300 or whatever you would pay just by going to them directly, though. They usually had only two or three late morning tee times posted, weekdays only.

Not surprising given how overrated that course is but the majority of courses here are overpriced for mediocre conditions.

If you have some luck on the tables or if you can stomach the $400 fee, Cascata is one of my favorites out there. Paiute is nice as well

I am going out Sunday to play a pro-am held by a group of country clubs from Indianapolis. 4 amateurs on a team with one club pro. I think there are 20 teams or so. We are doing a practice round at Cascata on Sunday, and the event will be held Monday and Tuesday at Paiute. How are the course conditions out there this time of year?

Just got back from playing wolf creek, and coyote springs. here are some short reviews on the current conditions.

Coyote springs was in amazing shape, it's a great course with great staff. The all grass range was in perfect condition, and they have a very large practice putting green. The speed of the gereens were fast. Probably some of the fastest i have ever played. Every single teebox, fairway and green was in excellent condition. the sand was immaculate, and there were coolers full of water bottles every 4 holes or so. The course is about 55 Min from the LV strip, and there is nothing out there besides the course for at least now, but that doesnt bother me at all. I would go back in a heartbeat. I paid $99 for the tee time. well worth it! I can not say enough good thingd about this course.

Wolf Creek got hit pretty hard with the flooding in the area about 1 1/2 weeks ago. Alot of the cart paths were covered in dirt, bunkers were in terrable condition (water damage, and people did not rake). The fairways were nice, rough was decent, but the greens were very slow. The tee boxes were slightly uneven, and they look like they havent been mowed in a good while. I played sunday morning, they did not mow the greens, change cups, or rake the sand. The greens were very soft, and around every cup were softspike and spikeless marks, although they did roll pretty true. I paid the rack rate of $175. For that price i expected much more. The staff was friendly, and i know the storm damage was not their fault, but my experiance could have been much better. I might go back and play again, but not if the course is in the condition it was, at the same price.
I would much rather play coyote springs over and over.

Coyote Springs received 3-4 inches the first flooding and over 4 the second time so that shows how much better their staff is compared to wolf creek.
