When you have a little 20 ft chip, most players don't walk of the distance. They just look at their landing spot, make a couple of practice swings and hit it. That's feel. Just something ingrained in your memory banks from practicing/playing.
Sure, 20 ft that is easy to be a feel player. But what about 40-60 yards. Do you know how far to hit it, or do you laser it to be sure and then grip down and hit it with half swing?

If it's uncomfortable to do, good luck getting my stubborn arse to repeat it shot after shot after shot.

My girl keeps coming up with this stuff that is supposed to be fun..but it's uncomfortable. Some weird book out of India. I just wanna be a feel player.

Nevermind.

I tend to play my best golf when i'm just going by this so called feel and not thinking about technique and hitting low fades.

agree. I think its that simple. Like pitching pennies.

"Our subconscious brains pick up the slightest of changes in the way our body moves, even if the brain doesn't process the information consciously. Just reflect that our sensory system operates at 10,000 bits per second (auditive) to 100,000 bits per second (visual) while we only consciously process at around 120 bits per second. Huge difference.

Watching the whole field of the Masters play hole 12 and for the most part drop the ball on a tiny green makes you realise just how sophisticated our proprioception is. Watching a concert pianist play Liszt faultlessly or seeing a brain surgeon at work just makes the mind boggle at what we can do in terms of extra-fine movements."

Trusting our feel is one thing, but seems most dont recognize it is the basis of all successful chain action movements.(kinematic sequence)

I don't want to speak for others but for me personally when I practice 30-80 yard shots I actually do laser off distances in increments of 5 yards. So for example 30, 35, 40, 45, etc.. when I have these distances I'll look at the target, make a couple of practice swings and hit it based on what I'm feeling a 30, 35, 40, 45 yard shot should feel like. If I've hit it to far or short I'll adjust. If you do this a couple of times a week you'll be amazed how easy these 30-80 yard shots are and once you have it down you're not thinking of the mechanics like 9 o'clock, 10 o'clock. You know the yardage, you know the feel, now it's time to execute!

I've never met a player that is not a feel player.

This^^. I've never met a non feel player either. I do however know a bunch of overly technical feel players that have an overload of swing thoughts and positions. This to me, can dull the ability to feel what you are doing. In golf what you think you are doing and what you are actually doing are often totally different. Take Kuchars pre-shot swings. He is just getting a feeling of swinging over the top. That simply provides him with a feeling that he can use to make the swing he wants.

To me feel is looking at your target and letting your body decide everything else. You're (conscious thoughts) just along for the ride. I never can consistently get the correct distance for 40-60 yard pitches or low spinners, however, my eyes, hands, and body can land that ball where I'm looking every time. Same when I'm putting. My eyes, hands, and body can sink 30+ footers going left or right like it is destiny. My brain has no idea how to digest the information and even come close to my gut.

Problem is, I think I know better - or maybe it's just that I since my thoughts have so little say in my success in golf ... if I let go, who played golf? Wasn't really me.

So what is it to do anything by feel (sports, music, art, love)? Simple, not thinking during the act of doing.

Actually yes - same thing. When I first tried to drive a car my driving felt jerky and static, not fluid. As I was trying to think my way through every pot hole and turn. Once I stopped thinking and became aware of the car and everything around it, it was no harder than walking.

Today for the first time I was able to switch to feel golf by the 6th hole. I was doing it on the practice range for weeks, but on the course I couldn't let go. I ended up with 8 pars for the last 12 holes. I stumbled a few times, but could shake it off and nail the next shot. I was creating shots all throughout the back nine. Ball in front of my stance on on an incline on the edge of a fairway bunker (8i), ball in bunker on a 45 degree incline with 155 yards to the green, ball above the feet in the woods on old needles and leaves, each foot in different depth holes with opposing inclines, and on and on. Every shot was unique (even the on the tee), I had no clue what to do; however, my subconscious understood my desire (ball flight and distance) and could correctly interpret all my senses to pull off some really fun golf shots.

Even if I suck tomorrow, doesn't matter, as I now know how to play feel golf.

If we all could learn this, there may be hope for the survival of this game we love.

.... and play faster, to boot.

When we park in a tight spot. Do we aim the car?

Isnt that feel? Just as we aim in golf and tennis... by feel.

It's rare for everyone unfortunately but it's what we should all strive for. The best rounds of my life all had one common denominator. I was almost in a coma. Everything slowed down and I simply reacted to my target. I think most golfers don't give themselves enough credit for having a great sense of feel. The human body is amazing in that we all have incredible senses and feel is one of them. You just have to tap into it. Even the most technical guys on tour are all relying on feel. Without the ability to feel, golf would be impossible.

I never drove 18 wheelers, but I worked part-time with the night crew cleaning and parking city buses when I was a teenager. It only took a few weeks before I was driving them like the full-timers. No different than a go-cart. We would back them up side by side, separated by inches (having to pull in the driver side mirror to finish parking) and we only needed one try and it was done in 10 - 20 seconds. We were backing them up at 15 - 20+ clicks, flush without hesitation. We had to watch ourselves, because it naturally became a challenge as to how fast we could park them and how close we could get them together. The bus drivers didn't like it if they needed a bus that was not at the end - they couldn't get in their bus. We were always trying to work faster and put the buses closer together, even when parked in a line; as the terminal had too many buses.
