Japan Forged vs China Forged

There is a good chance this might have been posted before but just in case you missed the original post (if there was one) like me here it is again.

 

Kinda interesting. Not sure what to believe. I would assume he is right but not sure.

To my knowledge, Endo uses the same materials and forging process at all their foundries in Japan, China and Thailand. They will make alterations according at different brands' requests. I am not sure what's the SOP for US or Chinese foundries.

I think the biggest difference comes in manufacturing tolerances. Most of the JDM guys on here will say a major difference is the weight and spec tolerances that JDM gives in comparison to the traditional OEMs. Part of that must be the sheer volume of production as well. Also, Japan's history of forging gives some extra appeal. Considering a lot of the negative press about manufacturing in China, it's very understandable how their forging processes can get a 2nd tier rank, where in reality it might be identical.

Interesting read. Always like hearing what Tom has to say on things. Like others have said on this topic, it is all about manufacturing tolerances and quality material. Coming from another industry that deals with Chinese manufacturing, you get what you pay for. We paid a little extra to have more checks done throughout the production run to make sure we had a superior product than others using that same factory. We also did our final production steps here in the US to keep them proprietary on certain items.

Spot on. Chinese goods are every bit the equal of German, British or US manufacturing IF you will pay for it. Problem is companies shift production to China in order to lower cost per unit, which inevitably leads to poor quality and thus the stigma. Iphones are made in China but Apple pay more to ensure quality which is why they will always be more reliable or function better than a copy from the same country.

Here's the story of buyers in China:

Two buyers are at a factory in China - one American and one Japanese.

The Japanese buyer has three associates and they spend weeks studying the entire supply chain and manufacturing process end-to-end to ensure maximum quality, documentation, packaging and shipping so there are no defects or damage all the way to the consumer. The Japanese company will provide technical support and assist in developing a complete quality assurance program, including training of staff, if necessary, to meet the mutual quality goals.

The American buyer is alone. He glances at a sample sitting in the corner of the conference room and says, "The quality looks fine, but I need you to find a way to reduce the cost another 20% . . ."

To be honest I don't see the difference between Chinese and Japanese forged club. I have hit Snake eyes 600XC and on the head, there is a "made in China" label. Also have hit Miura irons. They both about to have the same "softness" when you hit a pure strike.

I don't get it when people says Japanese forged iron is better. They might have a better QC. But when you play it, they just the same with any other forged irons.

I think you also have to look into where the irons come from.

One of my customer does a metal fabrication. Big industrial piping. On many of their contracts, made in China pipes can not be used so what he does is import good quailty industrial pipe from china, ship them to S. Korea, have it fabricate. Than the product becomes MADE IN KOREA.

Anyone know where they the irons from to forge the club heads?

most raw materials come from Australia?
