Raven Verrado vs. Gold Canyon Dinosaur Mountain

Help our golf group decide between the two courses.

 

Heading down late September before both courses pre overseed.

Where are you staying? Those courses are in different time zones (by that I mean on completely opposite sides of the valley). I've played both, and really enjoyed them.

depends on what you want? Very good Golf or Very good scenery?

Verrado is a great course with pretty good scenery. I personally don't think there is a bad hole on the course. Verrado Grill is much better food. Head and Shoulders better practice facility.

GC Dino Mtn(not Sidewinder) is an ok course(some good elevation changes and neat shots) with great scenery. I personally think there is 6-7 good holes and a bunch of average to below average holes. Restaurant is average; practice facility is utter junk!


Easy choice for me: Verrado.

Staying in Scottsdale Omni. willing to travel.

Yeah, well lets see....
1st I found , all the courses that were not in, after or right before the overseed process.
2nd I emailed the ones we never went to last year and in the upper half as per reviews, and rankings. asked them about availability, and course conditions.
3rd : found 4 rounds with ideal conditions nearby our hotel then confirmed tee times. 1 round remained ...
4th Came down to these two courses . both with around 50 minutes drive. both decent reviews . Both similar pricing.

They are both fantastic courses and you can't go wrong with either. I might slightly disagree that Dino Mountain only has 6-7 memorable holes. As much as I love Gold Canyon, Puttn is spot on that the range blows and Verrado range is awesome. Would also agree if you're having dinner that Verrado is 3 levels above GC.

With that said, for some reason there is just something that keeps bringing me back to Dino Mountain.

All I remember about dino is that theres lots of views and lots of elevated tee boxes. Scenic but not a place I'd want to play all of the time. But for a tourist it makes sense

I am firmly in the Verrado camp as well. Much better layout IMHO and in all reality the views are just about as spectacular as GC.

Me too. Dinosaur has a couple great holes, and a bunch of crappy holes.

Yep. Agree. Verrado is a much better golf course. Not even close.

verrado i play there most weeks, lots of great holes, cant think of many holes the same, nice mix of length as well nice elevation changes and great scenery

Heard that dinosaur mnt is getting hammered by rain. And not doing so well . Anyone play rave or Dino recently or plan on playing the next week?

Can't speak for current conditions, but I will concur that Verrado is the superior design.

Dinosaur has the wow factor for the first time visitor, but ultimately, not a real good course.

last week verrado was bak 9 closed but expected to open back up last friday, front 9 was in pretty good conditions greens were pretty firm not in top condition
