GREAT Story PD!!!

LMAO :)

That's a classic, lol.

Mine?

Not so much-

While it didn't center around golf, it not only fit into the classification of stupidity, it blew by it to the level of moronic ;)

It was half time of our Home Coming game my senior year.

As a captain, I was to hand the Queen a dozen long stemmed roses along with placing a sash on her while our offensive captain would do the crown.

So we had just gotten this stuff and were standing on about the 10yd line, waiting for the band to get into formation on the field. Well, the opposing team, who we were beating like a drum, came out of the locker room early and approached the field from behind us. As we were standing there, I heard a crude insult from one of them from behind. I looked sideways at my teammate and winked, and we both smiled. Well, the same individual, obviously not getting the response that he was seeking, made a second comment, this one much cruder and personal, and from what I judged to be a few feet behind us, as they had closed the gap.

I again looked to my teammate, said "F*** it," spun, closed the few foot gap and started beating him across his face mask with the long stemmed roses while driving him back into his teammates and trying to get the sash around his neck, LMAO. My teammate was right beside me swinging, lol.

Well, I drove him backwards, he went down with me on top of him and his teammates on top of me, LMAO. In what seemed like little time, their coaches pulled everyone off and when I got up two refs were running from across the field and when they got near us they both threw flags, LMAO. I looked to my teammate and said, "WTF, we're not playing, how the hell can they flag us?" LMAO, they could and did, along with throwing us and the instigator out of the game.

As I'm standing there I look over and the clown that I clocked had his helmet off and was hitting it and pulling out rose petals, LMAO. So, everyone in the stands saw the commotion, though didn't really see the real Home Coming festivities going on. The real festivities did proceed, minus myself, my teammate, the roses and the sash, which was torn and muddy. The crown was bent, though someone straightened it out and it did get placed on the Queen's head, lol.

Well, it so happened that the Queen was my GF. We had dated for a little over a year, and while she had met my parents numerous times, we both went to boarding schools, mine a guys' and hers a girls', and with us being in Wheeling, WV and she from Connecticut, I had never met hers.....

Until this week-end ;)

We had a great dinner on Friday evening with the Rents, and she said that they liked what little they had seen of me.

Well, if I took a step forward at dinner, I took three back on Saturday ;)

When word of what transpired reached our parents, who were sitting together, well, my Bro, who was sitting with them said that our Mother spent the better part of the second half telling Michelle's parents that I indeed was raised better than that, knew better, and she couldn't imagine me acting that way because I had always been such a quiet, polite child, LMAO

Everything ended up working out, though my teammate and I spent the next week running our a**** off after the post practice sprints, lol.

Yep, I'd take a mulligan on that one ;)

Have a great afternoon Gals & Gents :)

My Best,
Richard

in high school I was the star basketball player on the team. went to an away game and we were doing our warm ups. got done with warm ups and went to the bench to get the game plan. when the buzzer went off to start the game I pulled my warm up pants down and proceeded to take them off and it felt kind of breezy, I looked down and I was wearing nothing but a short pair of boxer shorts. the coach was a bit on the pissed side. we went on the lose the game.

About 6-7 years ago I was playing with my foursome on a hot summer day, we all hit our second shots and as I'm marking my ball I hear an incredibly loud thunk followed by another. I turn around to see my friend lying in the bunker, he had stepped on the rake and it had knocked him out, it was like something out of a cartoon. We all thought it was an accident but later he admitted to being too lazy to bend over to pick it up so he stepped on it thinking he would catch it as it came at him. doh!!

Two years ago, I was at Edwin Watts with my newly acquired Ping Ansers with the SteelFiber shafts. It was raining so I thought I would go there to hit on the simulator. Nothing worse than getting a set of irons during a week long rain. While i was there, I wanted to check the irons on the lie board (?). The salesman comes in and tells me to pretend I am ironing on an ironing board. I take a swing. Hit the lie board on the edge. Breaks my 6 iron shaft. Sends the head threw the screen. Apparently the screen will not withstand a jagged edged shaft. Several of the customers that were watching started clapping. My son was with me and he now pretends he doesn't know me.

Luckily, they did not charge me for the screen. It did cost me $50.00 for a replacement shaft.

Not golf related but something I had to learn to laugh off.

My freshman year of high school, we were playing a basketball game at a rival high school (neither high schools exist today). It was a messed up period of about 3 years in the community where I grew up with several industries closing at once, consolidation and closing of several schools during that 3 year period. If memory serves, the county school district went from having around 18 total schools to the current make-up of 6 and 3 high schools to 1. I was struggling to fit in with the team as the only freshman, it was my first year at the school and the last year the school would be open. It was a team filled with seniors. The ice was broken when I went to inbound the ball in this tiny, cramped gym with the bleachers only being 3 feet or so away from the sidelines. After inbounding the ball, I took off running. The elderly gentleman sitting in the front row where I was inbounding the ball hooked the bottom of my shorts with some metal hook he had stuck inside his jacket sleeve. It tore my shorts completely off! I was standing in the middle of the gym floor with only the waste band of my underwear and some tattered thread hanging down.

I had a 'near death' experience on the golf course this morning. I came to the stunning conclusion, after walking off the 3rd green, that gyros, poutine and golf do not mix. The contents of last night's meal were not agreeing with my body, probably helped by the chocolate milk and XL coffee that I had inhaled prior to the hole. I was in 'no man's land'. The club house and port-o-john were both three holes away (in opposite directions). I chose the latter as I was even par and didn't want to spoil a good round. Long story short, after a brief 'pit-stop' the round went to s$%t after the 6th hole. I couldn't get off of the bogey train.

I knew I should have returned home when I discovered that I had forgotten my golf towel in the garage.

Darn gyros and poutine. Foiled again.

  • 4 weeks later...

Wasn't actually on the course but close enough. After a 15 year layoff from the game (1990-ish to 2005-ish) a work buddy and I decided to start playing again and had plans to go to the range before we went on the course. I showed up in my metal spikes and clicked my way down the concrete walkway to where we were going to practice. All eyes were on me since I made so much noise with my unacceptable footwear. Folks then watched me lean my non-stand carry bag against the wooden stand and pull out my persimmon woods to start hitting (shanking) all over the range. I thought I was good but just a bit rusty. I had no idea. It would have been funny if it wasn't me.

This is a resurrection of a story I shared months ago. Seems like it would fit so here goes. Its the very true story of Bumble-bat:

A friend and I once got paired on golf package vacation with a guy of who had evidently forgotten his belt. Lets just say he was rocking a raging case of plumber's crack. The guy bends over to tee it up on #1. What must have been the world's largest horsefly dive-bombs this guy as he is setting the tee and it decides to go spelunking. That fly was so huge -- we later nicknamed it the Bumble-bat. Fast forwarding, the rather heavy set and beltless gent takes his address position totally unaware a passenger is onboard.

Then there's a waggle... and another waggle,,, and five more bigger waggles eventually involving motions which would put Miguel Jiminez to shame. Somehow amid his grunting and frowning and dancing he manages to pull the trigger.

At the instant of impact -- Bumble-bat explodes from the cave of death and soars away. We didn't know who to feel sorrier for...man or beast! We exploded into laughter. Our plumber's cracked partner thought we were laughing at his swing! There was no way of telling him with a straight face....that he had just been violated!

My buddy and I still can't recall how we played that day. But we deeply remember the plight and flight of Bumble-bat.

We have no idea where his drivel on #1 went either -- It's hard to track two objects leaving one swing at 90 degrees to each other at the same speed....We do remember vividly that Bumble-bat was a straight flying laser and went completely out of sight like a bullet.

I'm reading through this thread and I don't know how I should feel. I've worn sandals to work with a shirt and tie, two different shoes and socks, taken a rake with me to my bag and walked to the tee with a putter as well. Should I feel like an uber moron for doing all of these things (and more), or be happy that other's have experienced these moments as well?

My life can be a three ring circus at times.

This is a story I hesitate to tell because it is embarrassing, and a "newbie mistake". This didn't make me laugh at the time it happened, but only later on could I muster up a laugh. I was in Arizona vacationing with my wife and thought I would splurge on a golf outing while my wife relaxed at the pool for the afternoon. I didn't have my clubs with me, as it was primarily a relaxing type of vacation, and not for golf. Nevertheless, I had to get out at least once. So I called Troon North to play the Monument course. This was 10 years ago-ish and the price was $220 for 18, so you can get a sense for the "upscaleness" of playing their, now the cost is $275 for 18. I had to rent clubs, not my fav thing to do, but they were some decent Ping game enhancement style clubs. When you rent, you or course aren't familer with what they look like, perform, or even feel in you hand. I joined up with 3 others, each out as singles, put together to make a foursome. The guy I was in the cart with was sort of a snobby JA, who wouldn't/couldn't hold much of a conversation. Another one in the group was a fantastic golfer, and a gentleman to say the least. Still, I was teamed up with the 'stick in the mud'. I love desert golf, like links courses, are a unique challenge. If you hit one into the desert, some people just take it out with a penalty shot and play from the rough. Although some people like the challenge of playing out of the desert, similar to playing out of a trap, but much more firm and gravelly ground. About the 8th hole, I pulled one into the desert and decided to play from there, I had a good opening and a free swing radius. So I went to the cart and pulled out a five iron from the bag, but pulled the club out of my cart partners bag by accident. My clubs were worn somewhat from others hitting out of the desert, so I figured it would be ok to proceed. My cart partner's clubs were brand spanking new Titlest irons :fie: that were pristine in condition, but I didn't notice my wrong at the time. I took the club and hit out of the desert and put it back into MY bag thinking that's where it came from (oh sh!t), and, coincidentally, my cart partner was looking for his 5 iron for his next shot. He then asked "where's my 5 iron?", and my heart instantly sank to my feet cause that's all the time it took for me to figure out what I just did, I hit my partner's brand new Titlest 5 iron out of concrete-like desert instead of my abused Ping 5 iron from my set. He got all pissed me, and I felt as low as whale s**t, and then having to spend about 9 more holes sitting next to him for the rest of the round. He looked at the bottom of his 5 iron, which was now scuffed up, and just let out a miserable sigh. I'm having a hard time typing this because of laughter, but I felt terrible when it happened. I offered to pay for it but he refused. I really had an uncomfortable round for the cash I put out that day. Oh well, live and learn. I guess if it's going to happen, i'm glad it happened to this type of person. Maybe a type of karma?

I just hope that the 5i was his most often hit iron so that he could be reminded constantly of just what a schmuck he was :)

Tom,

One heck of a story. A round you'll surely never forget (for many reasons). If I were your cart mate we would have had a good laugh. Stuff happens.

On a double date night with my girlfriend (now my wife) and her grandparents I got a bit lost in conversation. Soup and salads were served and I inhaled a full bowl of clam chowder. When I finished grandpa asked how I liked the soup. I stated that it was delicious. He smiled, then indicated that I had eaten his soup. Turns out I had ordered the salad that sat unclaimed on the table. He said that I looked so happy that he didn't want to stop me. To this day, nearly 16 years later, he still reminds me of that night. We had a good laugh (and still do).

This is a story I hesitate to tell because it is embarrassing, and a "newbie mistake"................
[/quote]Tom, I absolutely believe in Karma and and You're a Good Man and he obviously was a P****!!

I just hope that the 5i was his most often hit iron so that he could be reminded constantly of just what a schmuck he was :)

I hope that's it's been a nice season my Friend :)

I guess that's not a laughing matter though.

I was at the range one morning, and this guy who is a regular there walks up. Real friendly guy...always has some new club or device or something he wants to show me. I have no idea who he is mind you...and he may talk to me because I don't grunt at him like most of the others on the range do. So one day he shows me this new chipper he's got...best club he ever had he says. Here...try it out! Ok, so I humor the guy a bit. Yeah I bet that will save you some strokes! And go on about my business.

The next morning he walks up while I am putting my clubs in the trunk. I am thinking to myself cool...I am about to leave and I can just make an excuse and bail...

He shoves an Orange Whip into my hand and tells me to give it a try. So there I was...swinging this thing back and forth. Yeah...this this is great pal!

So he says...no no...you gotta give it a good swing to get the benefit!

So I take a step back, give it a nice back swing.....hold the lag and release into my left side. Sadly...I also released into the left tail light of my car. Bits and parts flying everywhere.

I am standing there with that "what just happened" look on my face and I turn to the guy. His face is white as a sheet and he says "Give me that!!!", gets back in his car and leaves.

Naturally, the parking lot was full of people...I didn't go back to that range for 3 months.

Not golf related but I have to come clean...
Twice, back in the day, I thoughtlessly started punching a phone number into our copy machine thinking it was a fax machine. We had both back then. I knew which one was which but I was zoned into something else apparently. I had to laugh.

I have one moment that was not witnessed by anyone, thankfully.
I have an inflammatry bowel disease. The kind you want a bathroom nearby if things aren't going so well.
Of course, one of these moments came when I was as far away on the course from facilities as possible.
I made it to the bridge between the 15th green and the 16th tee. That was as far as I'd make it.
Standing there, 35º, late fall, with my @ss over a bridge letting out the hellbent evils of hades out of me with a cold sweat coming down my face.
Man, was I glad I brought an extra towel that day. And that the course was pretty empty!

Not as epic mind you, but one morning I was hitting my driver and ripped one....so to speak. I was hoping nobody was near, but I turned around there was this really cute Korean lady with one of those 3.5 foot diameter visors who looked at me and said "You have leaking"

This makes me think of all the times I've stuck some random item in the fridge that doesn't belong there (eg. a coffee mug). Unfortunately I've been totally sober every time.

My only "wow I didnt think that through" moment was when I broke my PW.

Short hole against the wind @ 120 yards. Hit the ball perfect. The ball went straight at the flag.....and so did the head of my club. Ball ended up 10 yards short. Head flew in the water. Then I promptly threw the shaft over my shoulder out of frustration. Thankfully it missed my buddies head by about an inch.

I joined up with a guy at the local golf course. He was a nice enough guy but when he hit a bad drive he would throw his driver over towards his bag. We were teeing off on seven. He hits another bad drive. This time when he throws his driver he doesn't let go of it at the right moment and he somehow throws it up high in the air and his new TM drivers ends up stuck way up in a tree. After a few minutes of trying to get it out of the tree I say see you later I'm playing on. When I came back by down the fairway on nine he was still over there trying to get his driver out of the tree.
