7 years of buying heads with removable weights, experimenting with thousands of dollars in shafts and custom lengths, I finally broke down just called Joe. I have always had a tough time dialing in a driver due to my physical stature and feeling comfortable with the 45" plus driver lengths and then spending cash on hopes of getting lucky. Being 5'6" and having longer arms, 44" driver is what the Dr. ordered.

Long and short, after about a 20 minute phone call we dialed in the driver build for my numbers, desires, and spec:

Ping G30 12* head

Mitsu Kuro Kage tini X60 shaft

Winn Dri Tac Oversize

44" and D5 swing weight

Cant wait to get this bad boy and start bombing it out there! Thanks again Joe for your prompt response and attentive/comprehensive phone conversation.

Just wanted to share my experience with people that might need a custom driver built to needs and desires by a master of craft.

Nice! Nothing better than getting a new stick.

Curious, what made you go with the 60X Kuro Kage? I noticed you play mostly PX 5.5 and stiff shafts in your woods so I was wondering what the idea there was.

Thx. I typically play a 70G stiff shaft at 44.75" with lots of added weight via the MWT in the TM heads of late. With that said going to 44" even, I did not want a shaft that was to loose considering how much weight we have to add to the G30 head to get the swing weight up to D4-5. Went from 70 - 60gm due to Joe's recco about trying to pick up some speed for the bombs. I guess in the end I am on the boarder from the numbers with my irons in the Project X and went 5.5 to help remind me to swing easy vs with the 6.0...and with driver at 44", I don't want to hold back and just feel good to have a shaft that will stay true through impact when ripping it. Im curious to see how it will feel too. My guess is pretty close to a stock stiff shaft at 45+". Cant wait to see.

How does an over the phone fitting work?
[/quote]

Takes about 20-30 minutes and you have to have your launch monitor numbers etc...Here is a link that details each question for preparation, should help answer your question perfectly.

Thanks again Joe. Confidence and consistency are how I describe my first outing with the the new driver. Certainly apprehensive going to the XFlex Kuro Kage Proto 2013 shaft at 44". After a range session and this round, I am super happy with this set up paired with the G30 head at the weight he dialed in. I think with the 218 gram head, at 44" this X flex feels more like a Stiff plus flex (in between my former Kali 70S and various X flex I have hit). Having a 106-107mph driver head speed S off the rack has felt whippy and spiny causing me to sometimes try and dial it back, where X has always felt boardy. Not here. Shaft is smooth and consistent with the insurance I can go at it 100%. Also the matt head with the Ion finish of the shaft is very sweet! Played sat at my local course and here are the stats that pertain:

-14/17 fairways hit and consistent 275yard boring trajectory bombs dead straight (previous flight was a little left to right).
-2/3 fairways missed were just slightly through the fairways and more start line than anything. Point and swing done.
-Sound is for some reason more solid than I have ever felt/heard...maybe the hot melt? I describe this as a sound of a solid hammer hitting a nail vs. a tin can hitting that same nail.
-Score 81 for this 12.4index

I guess the moral of my experience is working with Joe is super easy, he provided me with a club that is the sum of his workmanship and parts, and couldn't be happier to improve the rest of what we have left here in Ohio for 2014 and for sure 2015. Playing again this coming weekend, hopefully I can continue and make my driver striking a trend. Thanks again Joe.

Not to take the spotlight from Joe, but I'd like to add to the greater message here.

Im short aswell, 5'4, WTF under 30...swing upwards of 95-100. After a couple years of building and experimenting, I broke down and got fit here on Ontario...I ended up having a Wishon built to 43.25 inches, which I never would have built myself.

Long story short, best money I've spent on golf so far.

I encourage everyone to get fit, with or without a monitor, by a professional fitter and end the guess work forever!

Agreed. I wish I had back that cash on all my "experiments" LOL...should have done this with Joe first! Thanks for adding to the real message on getting fit and going to a quality club craftsman to get it built right. It still boggles my mind how on the rack at golf stores that their even exist 46" driver set ups...we are talking Long Drive stuff right there...its just crazy IMHO...but I guess it works for gaining distance 1/10 drives.

I realize this is a few years old. But would be interested in more of a longer term view of Joe’s fitting. Did the driver stay in the bag? Did it lower scores? Do you still recommend joe? Have you used Joe anymore since then for other clubs? Thanks.

Heck yes always good to get a view down the track on how fitting results have progressed. Also helps ive been on the fence about pulling the trigger on a wedge fit with Joe haha
