Closed clubface at top and hooking drives

What is the best way to help with closed clubface on the backswing?

I play off a 4 with an extremely shut club face . At the end of the day you would rather the club face to be more closed then open so less
effort is used to get the face back to square . Some people would completely argue the point with me that iam wrong but after playing with
both posistions on and off for 7 years i could tell you shut is better then square or open .

Obviously a hook would be your miss but there are ways of playing an open face and closed face .

For 1 , With more body rotation the closed club face position will stay more stable with very minimal rotation . The milisecond your body stalls or you try to release the clubface you will know it . snap hooks and fat shots will ensue .

Playing with an open club face there needs to be some type of release with the arms and wrists to get the club to square . Without proper timing the main miss will be blocked shots, with some snap hooks drizzled in when you get a little quick.



Either way you choose have there pros and cons , Ive played great golf with both conditions but ive played better with closed .






To answer your question the way to get the club more open assuming you have a strong grip is more left arm rotation in the backswing ( RH golfer) . However you also need to make sure that you are not
purposely trying to flatten your left wrist in the backswing which also leads to a shut club face with a strong grip .

For the most part your grip determines the posistion of the club face in space . Stronger ( more left hand knuckles visable ) = shut , Weaker ( less left hand knuckles ) = open.

Thanks for the response. My only problem with having a shut clubface is I can't hit a cut no matter how hard I try. My normal shot is a draw with misses being a hook or block. Is it possible to hit a cut with a closed clubface? That's the main reason I would like a square clubface at top of backswing.

The closed club at the top is not why you are hitting hooks and not able to hit fades. Many great faders of the ball were close at the top...as a matter of fact, most of them were.

Closed club not issue.

Extreme across the line is.

Your first move is to steepen, then your hips work toward ball to shallow. That opens club and makes path way in to out.

Hook is stall and flip.

You come way from the inside with a face very open to target line.

The only way you could hit a fade would be to aim 50 yards left and hook is imminent.

You need a better wrist set and a way more rotated left arm to get club in a more laid off position. Will take time to rectify.

I prefer to hit a straighter ball with a tiny bit of draw . But when I need to hit a cut shot I can .

Setup aiming where you would like the ball to start . Crack the face open just a hair and trust your swing .

If you don't trust it then your most likely going to stall and flip . You need to make sure that your pivot never stops for a millisecond .

The feeling is almost as if your chest is finishing towards the sky , it never stops turning .

Edit : across the line = hook almost all the time .

Get your arm swing and wrist set tightened up before attempting any other swing change .

You address the ball way too centered (no tilt, hands directly in middle, weight 50-50), even the club is in the center of your stance and the ball off your foot. Need to fix set up which will change your takeaway/ backswing, then you'll need to fix the takeaway/ backswing. Your current takeaway/ backswing has very stiff leg action, then goes very wobbly and out of balance, not enough dynamic right and left movement.

The feeling is that your stretching your arms away from your chest in the backswing . Almost feeling like they dont bend at all . That will keep your arms
more in front of you and should stop you from crossing the line at the top .
