As much as I love my ping G series irons, I think it's time to move on. I have lost the weight on 4 clubs and had ping repair them but going without an iron for awhile (it was 21 days last time) is starting to annoy me.

After yesterday's 9 holes on a hard baked course, I now have a further 3 irons without weights, 1 of which was already repaired by Ping. That's 7 times I've lost a weight.

I can't knock pings customers service but there's clearly been an issue with this particular model.

Time to move on but to what?

I've been lucky, All the G series irons I've had I've never had a weight come loose.

Never lost a weight either.

I told my buddy with G2s, to use a fingernail and try to lift the CTP weights.  They tend to fall out.  If you pay attention, though, loose weights are easy to notice before they fall out and get lost.

Happy to report, no lost weights, just a very enjoyable round today.

I hit a bunch of greens.  Several from 7/6/5 range.  Too many putts left short, but that doesn't take away from the G30 irons.

No disrespect to the newer clubs, with a spring face and all, but the old thick face irons just plain feel solid!  For the Ping G's, I'm in the old skool camp.

The G30’s were flat-out my favorite G series iron. Inject a set of G30’s with Axiom 105 into my veins—unfortunately, just not worth the trouble and expense to try to put that set together.

I am loving the Elytes, but always have my thoughts on going back to Ping and picking up a set of G440 with Axioms.

After a few weeks with the new G440 irons, I will have to say that these are a joy to hit

These iron cover up so many misses

You almost have to try to miss for it to be a bad shot

Almost

I tried doing some digging but just want to confirm, was g30 the last series before spring face builds?

I want to apologize in advance because this post isn't about the G series but I'm stoked to have just picked up a set of 4-SW I10's in beautiful condition. One of the last set of heads to still be cast in the good ole USA. Can't wait!

For those who have played G430 power spec, any issues with height?

I’ve been tempted to order a set of G430 irons at 1* strong 6-PW for a 40* PW and slightly tighter gapping than a power spec set.

I play a 44* CBX Zipcore as my PW and bag 5-9 Tour Edge Exotics C721. The G430 PW would be my 9.

Just want to hit trappy irons that will still launch. I don’t currently have issues stopping on greens.

Since you can order single irons still, why not try the 6i first. If it works order the set. If not you’re only out $129

Here you go. Early reviews are GREAT, although I haven’t been able to hit them much. Will get more time next week to really test them, but I’m pleased to have some old friends back in my hands with an updated shaft.

Maybe I will do that.

I popped into to PGATSS today and found a used set of G430 irons with Alta CB Stiff so got to hit the 6, 7, and 9 iron. Long, but really hard to gauge ball flight.
Low 4000 spin and 1.4 smash typical for a G430 7 iron?

No peak height or decent on the screen. They were blue dot and seemed like they might have been built over length.

Distance seemed a bit inconsistent, but the clubs were probably a bad fit (long and upright). And as usual, shot shape on sim was different than real life. One of the reasons I’ve never gone for a fitting. Just don’t trust what I’m seeing. Also I was spraying them a bit, shaft did feel a bit light, but stout enough.

I’ll have to go back with my clubs. There are a few sets of G430s to test out.

Can any 440 users tell me if you can see anything behind the top line on the 4 and 5 irons?

Taylor Made Sim 2 10.5* set at 11* playing at 45”

PXG Gen 2 0811X 3W head set at 4W loft with a 5W shaft, my 345 wood

Nike Vapor 5W head set at 7W loft with a shaft cut to 41” so a 6 wood?

I'm pondering my future as a GMAN, I'll be joining the second half of 30 with two kids, limited practice time. While eagerly waiting for i240 irons to demo, I'm already one foot in on G440 I've demoed them and they feel great, plenty of distance, just worried about fliers but that's a risk I'm willing to take at this point.

I am heavy in golf's minimalist movement to keep a light bag for walking but there is something satisfying about playing a full G440 set 4-56* of clubs. My index is only going up and I feel a bit of forgiveness will help me slow any more high scores. Do you guys have any cautionary tales or encouragement before I take the plunge?

Go with the 440

I had a fitting a little over a month ago and ended up in the 440 over the i530

Easiest irons I have ever hit

I am on the early side of 50 and only have 1 kid, but I have limited practice time too

My hcp has gone down since I started playing them

Take the plunge

Interesting factoid. AskGolfNut on YouTube has his database of 7i numbers. I had my buddy run the G400 through G440s since those are the G irons he has tested. And asked him to adjust the g430 and 440 weak to match the older lofts.

70mph -2AoA -2ShaftLean (his standard 70mph test conditions)

Model Loft Spin Max/Avg PeakHt Descent

G400 30deg 4,235rpm 130yd/125yd 22yd 41.2deg
G410 30deg 4,305rpm 130yd/125yd 22yd 41.3deg
G425 30deg 4,270rpm 130yd/124yd 22yd 41.3deg
G430 29deg(bent 30deg) 4,375rpm 130yd/124yd 21yd 41.2deg
G440 29deg(bent 30deg) 4,235rpm 134yd/128yd 24yd 42.3deg

If you bend the G430 to match the 30deg loft of the G400/G410/G425, there is absolutely no difference among them at 70mph. Exactly the same distance and ball speed
G440 29deg (std loft) 4,106rpm 136yd/130yd 23yd 41.3

440 seems to me the only decent leap.
