Confessions of Ignorance: Share your Confusion as a Rookie WRX'er

Thought it would be fun/funny to start a thread and see what confused you initially when you joined the site. Came up with the idea thinking back to when I joined.

 

I was perusing the BST and saw an ad titled "The HO'ing has stopped!". I then spent about a half an hour searching other forums and Google for a swing fault called "ho'ing", thinking it was some kind of over the top overly steep huge divot type of swing.

 

Anyone else?

My main issues were keeping up with the lingo..

GLWS didnt click with me until I was over 100 posts deep.

Recently saw someone get mocked for actually typing out GolfWrx vs just saying WRX or the WRX.

Ill be following this topic! May learn a few new things lol

I'm confused about the thought process some of the negative guys on here have.. Its almost like you shouldn't even say you hit a good shot till your a scratch player! Other than that, some of the terminology was confusing at first, but overall, the site is extremely insightful!

I can agree with this. There have been multiple times I was going to post something but didnt because I knew half the replies would be shameful ridicule so I just read around until I found my answer. But for every guy that like to one-up and put people down to show their knowledge there are 5 more that are genuine and actually want to help. I love everything about this site! Even the bleeping BST..

I also thought MadGolfer was always mad, MtlJeff was Montreal Jeff, no one would really think I was Dave Pelz, and that someday the Bears would have a real quarterback.

Definitely the jargon and acronyms were confusing. I also did not realize that the average WRXer is (or claims to be) a much better golfer than the actual average golfers. I have learned to look at the handicap (if posted) on replies to help determine where the person may be coming from, and will try to state my handicap, especially when answering equipment related questions. You being a +2 and myself an 18 is a pretty good indicator that the golf balls you use would likely not support
my game.

I have found the time spent on this site to be much more valuable to my knowledge of the game than any magazine or publication, plus I get to throw my 2 cents in.

You are correct, I started one thread and some of the feedback I initially got made me not want to start them anymore, not out of fear and I'm not exactly sensitive about golf related stuff since it is just a game, I just don't enjoy the ignorance! But there's trolls everywhere you go on the internet, and most wouldn't dare to show the disrespect they show from their computer chairs in real life. But 98% of people on here are great, and having an outlet to talk golf is a good thing for all of us here!

I didn't know that only driving the ball 250 yards was bad...I mentioned that in a post, and someone asked me if I played from the Ladies tees. So..I guess in my ignorance I didn't know that nearly everyone on here drives the ball 25 yards more than the PGA tour average.

I never realized how fanatic people might be concerning particular brands, or that any criticism of Taylor Made was sure to result in a twenty page thread full of histrionics and abuse. Learned that lesson with my third or fourth post. Also elevated vocabulary - some people just don't like it.

I don't follow the BST often so those are new to me, but I can certainly understand why much of the lingo is not known (i.e. goat humping), unless you lived through the whole Slicefixer posts from 5 years ago.

Somehow I figured that TMAG was taylormade just through the models that people were talking about, but why not just say TM?
