The El Nino effect (not Sergio) is really kicking this year. It is much hotter than normal for this time of year, plus we were just skirted by another Typhoon, which eventually turned into a Super Typhoon. Looks like another one is brewing too! This is supposed to be the first month of "dry" season. In 19 years of living here I've NEVER seen typhoons during March. Kinda scary, global warming taking effect unfortunately.
Given the size of Guam that is very scary. The weather systems are chaotic mathematically. There are a lot of feedback loop math equations in weather systems so changing conditions will exacerbate themselves over time. The results are continually more severe weather patterns than the year before. We can only hope what is going on is part of a larger "normal" pattern at its peak, but if it is not, and we are going down a chaotic feedback loop, then the weather issues will get worse. Guaranteed. Tornadoes, hurricanes, typhoons, tsunamis, all get worse and worse as time goes by unless some "variable" returns the system back to stability.
We had one hurricane after another hit the gulf coast here in 2004
and 2005.....then quiet since. Has been quite stable....a variable must
have showed up......called the "Bermuda High" that sent all the canes
into the North Atlantic to die.

It was predicted in 2005 that we were entering an active hurricane
cycle similar to the 1950s......only, it hasn't happened. I don't think we
have enough recorded weather history to know if we're in a "cycle"
or not.

I think the worst snowstorm to ever hit NYC happened in the 1880s.
And I think the worst tornado outbreak happened in the 1970s. The
Weather Channel has become so full of drama it's hard to watch at
times. Some of the talent there have become "celebrities", lol.
The frequency at which the weather events occur also needs to be considered. Also in a chaotic system not every "cycle" is exactly the same either, further complicating the interpretation of the already limited data. There's absolutely not enough recorded data. Not nearly enough.

I remember watching all of that on the news, that was a few years removed from our "big one" and I feel your pain. It's scary, and there's ALWAYS a huge huge mess to clean up afterward. Lets all just hope that these storms don't just keep getting stronger and stronger!! Less bad weather and more golf weather LOL!!
I'm good with that Ham! We live inland and fortunately for us only
1 of those canes was still a cane when it got to us and that was
Ivan in '04. Blew down some trees and power lines and a few
small fast moving tornados.

Those fast tornados are weird. Usually tornados don't move that
fast laterally across the ground. Maybe 10-30 mph. Those were
moving at 70+ mph across the ground like a car on the freeway.

You know, just watching clouds go smokin' over the roof of your
house at 75 mph is unsettling. I couldn't help but just to stand
outside and watch as the sirens were blaring, lol. :shok:

I felt safe. The odds of getting hit by a tornado are very small.
The odds that someone will are high but low for any specific
location. :nono:

So true D. There may some sun activity that occurs every 30,000 years
that greatly affects our weather. Or there may not. We don't know what
we don't know.

The NWS is pretty damn good though 3-4 days out and has saved many
lives and much property by warning us. We're making progress in short
term forecasting for sure but long range it's gonna take a long time to get
enough data......... or an amazing discovery we can't imagine now.

Easy peasy scotee.

The answer to your first is............it's golf!

To the second is............before you hit post.....delete the quote symbol just
below the top quote, then delete the quote itself and then delete the
timestamp line right above it. Then you can hit post and it will work.

You can delete any quotes you want by doing this. Just make sure you
also delete the timestamp line that goes with it and the quote symbol
just below the quote you are deleting. I can't post the quote symbol as
an example because WRX will think it's a quote and then the numbers
won't match.

And the answer according to WRX member "Asleep" is to use a Ping
G20 Lob Wedge for those shots. He said you can hit "up to 3 inches"
behind the ball and still pull off the shot. It's in a now old Ping G20
thread he started when those irons first came out.

He said he could even take a full swing, hit 3 inches behind the ball
and the shot would go 90 yards. Adjust your swing accordingly for
the desired yardage. I'M NOT KIDDING!!! :D

So, man of science, can you tell me why I can hit one like a pro and next shot lay the sod over it? Especially 10 -50 yrd pitches from tight lies. Unpredictable!

And tell me how to fix the quote number thingy?
I'm not a psychologist! PM me when you figure it out. Pretty please. Then explain how you can practice that shot like a pro with a bucket of balls, but yet at the moment of truth with all that confidence from the practice, you still throw on the sod. :russian_roulette:

I just clean out the oldest quote or more if I get the error message.

'Zen Golf', Dr Joseph Parent......An enjoyable bedtime read!

Been there. Done that. And I still need advanced therapy.

But it is a GREAT read.

Edit: The Tao Te Ching by Lao Tzu is a great read too.
Aaah, must have a look at that one.

Must admit though, i'm struggling with the 'ignore the score' thing - maybe i need to chant harder, on course!!

Disposition Chi. You will have it after reading and cheerful rounds
will follow; which lead to lower scores.

Hey, I'm missing my nightly reading of Woody and Bick's
conversations. Where did they go?
I'm guessing Woody's wore out from all the fun of starting a new job, with a long commute. I've been busy with the family, and also got hooked on a book about Jack The Ripper, "Portrait of a Killer" by Patricia Cornwell. Interesting read, she makes a pretty good case for her suspect being Jack.

"The Inner Game of Golf" by W. Timothy Gallway good read. Kinda Psycho 101. Believe one of the first Psycho books that came out.

I'll be back later to check in, I'm gonna take the daughter to the course and play 9 or so. She's 11 so I tee off from the blacks, and she hits from 150 or so on par 4's, 180 on 5's, and uses her driver from the women's tees on the par 3's. Right now she only has, a driver, 7 iron pitching wedge, and putter, but if she stays interested, we'll be looking at more clubs soon.
