Anyone bought or tried JPX-850 fairway wood?

It's been more than a week and haven't seen any club reviews at all. I fell in love with JPX-800 3 fw years ago and start to wonder how the JPX-850 would do. I skipped the 825 since it doesn't give me that much difference and ignored EZ due to its deep face. However, I love the look of 850 FW... They seem to change the length of their 3 FW to 43.25 from 42.75... Does the difference length become noticeable?

I hit one yesterday on a lark because I usually play Titleist or Callaway. I liked the look, and feel of the club. If I'm not mistaken the 3W had a Speeder shaft in it. Got good numbers for me at least as good as my current 913 F. Beautiful club.

How shallow was the face? I think it seems quite shallow like 800 or 825 which is my preference. Yes it has a speeder in it. I guess I have to trip to the city to test...

I didn't find it to be too shallow. I confess I didn't make mental note of that aspect but if I remember it seemed no more shallow than my 913F. Quite possibly even deeper.

Okay so I guess I have to trip to the city during the thanksgiving to look at it hahah. 913F is quite shallow too as long as I remember.

I did a club fitting with a Mizuno rep, and he let me take a few swings with the 3 wood. I was hitting it with their Fujikura Motore stiff shaft (white with blue logo, I think). It was set up standard in every respect and at the standard 15 degrees adjustment.

It was instant love. I am decent striker of my fairway woods off of the grass, but when I get tired over a round I start to hit fat and thin a bit more. My current clubs are old school Callaway Steelhead III's 3 and 5 wood and I also have a Taylor Made RocketBallz Stage 2 3-wood that I carry but don't really like that much (yet). All are with the stock stiff shafts.

The club has a classic look from above which hides a bunch of the tech features below. The head is bigger than my current clubs. I usually don't like big balloon club heads, but this felt contained and inspired confidence. The clubhead is not expecially deep or shallow. I would guess that it is about as deep as a golf ball. When I set up with the Mizuno JPX-850 fairway wood, the shaft felt long to me. This is because the shafts are .5" to 1" longer than standard 3-wood lengths from a decade ago. So I choked up a bit on the club and let it rip.

I literally pured every shot I took with this club. I only took 10-12 swings, but I have never had that feeling that everything was locked in like that before. I felt very confident and every ball went long and straight. The clubs gave a really beautiful sound and feel. I wasn't with a launch monitor, but each ball had a mid trajectory with controlled spin. It does feel like you get a satisfying crush of trampoline effect from the shock wave sole.

I was focusing on an iron fitting (also JPX-850 forged) and wasn't ready to order the fairway woods yet. But now I can't get them out of my mind. I feel like I met the love of my life on a subway but didn't ask her out. Fortunately, I know where to find her again.

The only question for me - I know that I prefer a shorter club length. Do I stick with the love of my life and accept her exactly as she is (and choke up on the club), or do I risk trying to ask her to change a bit (by shortening the shaft by .5" or 1"). Will this ruin everything?

I have the 850 driver and love it so far. It beat out all of the various new drivers that have come out this fall. Spent a lot of time with the demo fairway and hybrids...both are great clubs. It's going to be tough to ultimately decide between the new Callaway 815 Alpha and the Mizuno if I decide to get a new fairway. The 850 is a classic looking fairway really with no gimmicks. By no means is it deep like the EZ. It's a solid feeling head that goes great with the shaft. I played the Bertha 3W with a grafalloy blue 75S all season and it was my favorite club in the bag so it's going to be tough to beat, but the 850 is quite close indoors on flightscope. I don't currently carry a hybrid, but am seriously considering picking up the 3H. The best way to describe the feel is solid. The ball just seems to jump but very controlled. Mizuno has a great line this year...in some ways it's good that they're not mass-marketed. I love being asked about that cool blue club on the course.

I just purchased the 5 wood instead of the 3. I changed the loft to basically a 4 wood. I bought this only because the store didn't have the 3 wood. Now I am glad I did because this 5 wood is longer and bigger than my I25, 913, Grenade, 3 woods. So basically I have a 3 wood in length with hopefully a 5 wood in forgiveness. With what little I hit the 5 wood, i could tell it is going to be a winner. Great feel and sound.

Mizuno JPX 900 3 wood
Mizuno JPX 900 5 wood

I guess that's a nice idea too. It came out with longer shafts which I don't like much.. Probably I'll think about it too!

$187 on RBG's site with their BLACKTUESDAY coupon code.

I hit the 5w. Definitely a shallower face than the JPX EZ. I would say it was slightly deeper than say the X2hot. Along the lines of the G30 face height.

For some reason I was coming over the top with it (probably due to shaft length). I am only 5'4" but was choking down a little.
It always seemed to fade back into the simulator fw though. I just prefer a club I can turn over. The blue on the crown was very reminiscent of the shade they used on the Cobra Bio Cell and Amp Cell heads. The white Motore shaft pops against it though. Very sick looking combo.

I was a big fan of the black and orange look of the EZ line but the 850's look better IMO.
