differences between internet and actual golf course

square

Recommended Posts

I say 80 yards to the tee ball, 40 yards for irons , and 10 shot scoring average differences.

Please add to this thread your own observations comparing internet golf to actual golf course play.

First off this in the wrong thread. Second i dont know why you want to start a thread that is just going to get you flamed. IS everyone on wrx honest? No. I just have to take people for their word, but i do believe most guys on here are solid players. There is so much knowledge here that can be learned. Leave my fellow wrx members alone please. They come here to contribute and help guys like us out

maybe for some ..but im here to tell you there are a ton of low single digit ams out there who hit the ball a mile....for some reason there are naysayers on here who seem to think it doesn't happen... I don't know what to tell you...go to a college event.... your state am tournaments etc....lots of guys on here play in these type settings.... and they hit it plenty long.... which doesn't mean a thing... as far as scoring average...haven't really seen that discussed inn depth...if your talking handicaps well that's a deep subject that has no answer...some sandbag, some only post their lowest rounds...some post all.. that's anywhere you go not just on here

Yeah i agree....well said

At the end of the day it's not to say anything specific about the OP. But i do find that sometimes you get guys who don't play with a lot of good players often, and they might question guys saying they shoot 72 or drive the ball 280 yards. But there are a lot of guys out there who do.....If you play with top ams, or talented kids, you see these sorts of things. I played with a 16 year old a year ago who flew it 280+ in the air easy, just murdered the ball. There's a kid at my course now who is probably no taller then 5-7 and weighs 150lbs and he crushes it by me. Played with him once and he hit driver-6 iron into a 520yd hole with no wind. I've also played with several of the top ams in quebec and frankly Quebec isn't even a great golf province. I've seen guys do in real life , for basically anything that's been claimed here

But if you play mostly public with your 10-15 handicap buddies, you might think these guys aren't out there because you don't see them

again nothing personal to anyone specific

Played with 2 people here who didn't hit ball near where they claim....even in my own world people I know do not drive ball as far as they think....people aren't honest by nature.....sure there some amateur kids and low level pro guys that pound ball but they're not all on golfwrx either....and its very small percentage in golfing population to begin with.....Most of those guys are so busy I doubt they would be messing around on here anyway.....they don't need people's advice on clubs which are half or more of the threads and the certainly don't need to debate blades vs cb they most likely confident enough to have their bag and swing set.....and its pretty rare to even see someone's hdcp below 3 on this board....majority of people here are just avg recreational golfers.....

I know about 8 really good golfers...mini tour/top am guys and only 1 of em even knows what golfwrx is...says he lurks from time to time......Most of are too busy pounding balls....Their practice and play schedule is insane!!!...amazing what you have to do to improve,

But it's entertainment so who cares if people tack on 20-40yds to their drives....they know the truth regardless of what they say so ....

But yeah this thread will prolly start a shitstorm....lol

Bingo,

I have played with close to 40 different WRX members now. Have yet to run across one guy that I felt blatantly lied about his game or how far they hit it. In fact some of the guys I play with probably sell themselves short just so they avoid the negative posts that come with distance claims. Now most of the guys I have played with are mid to low single digit guys or better. Could there be some guys cough jonescott cough who are not truthful, probably but really what does it matter what someone claims for distance if it only relates to an online forum? Same thing goes for vanity caps, claim to be whatever you want on the internet but the truth will come out whenever you decide to go play in a wrx outing etc etc.

spot on post Jeff...... The talent pool is deeper than you think.... But you wont find it in your weekday morning scrambles....Its in the Lone wolf you see pulling into the club after 3 or the group of 4-5 of them walking late into the evening....that's where the dedicated guys are... theres always an exception to the rule but in general that's my observation....the 2 groups are really playing 2 different games...

FACTS:

I hit my driver 350+. (it's like watching a laser show)
My 200 club is a soft 7 iron.
My 60 lob wedge is made for 120 yards.

Last round I hit 13 of 14 fairways and 16 out of 18 greens (from the tips of course).

If I could putt, I'd be on tour.

It's usually just a little bit of bad luck that keeps them shooting 85's

I won't speak for anyone else, but I have been around top level golf for most all my life. For decades I have been in the gallery at US Opens. regular Tour events, President's Cup's. major college conference events, US Amateur's, even caddied 36 holes in a group that featured 17 year old Tiger Woods. These days my regular skins game is nearly all guys shooting around par or better. The type of game where a round with 5 or 6 birdies may not win a skin. And a few times I have played with long drive specialists, competitors who don't necessarily play golf well (or shoot low scores) but specialize in striking long tee shots.
Yet , in all the above events and witnessing high skill level golf I have never seen any player produce the type of distances which are common for many internet forum participants. The internet forum wedge, iron, hybrid, and fairway wood distances are especially remarkable.

Generally, those who have actually played at a high level do not find the need to embellish and have a certain level of credibility to their responses that only comes from experience. Some posts by many members reflect a lack of recent experience playing with high level players as well, as observing an event and playing in tournament conditions are vastly different. That being said, I have played with many players that have athletic ability that allows some prodigious distances, dispersion/accuracy and the ability to put a number on the card under pressure, playing by all the rules, can be another matter. Factual posting tends to rise to the top, just like ability on course shows itself without bravado needed.
