So I guess at present its only rumour!

Guess time will tell. I also disagree that Louis will not compete for a major again. Fully expect to see him in the last three or four groups come Augusta Sunday! Superb golfer.

He has a nice swing, but I've heard he's lazy to practice. He'd rather drive his tractor apparently. I doubt will see him in contention in the majors, but he has a swing to prove me wrong.
He was close at the Masters not too long ago. I think he will win at least a couple more majors. Not sure he is lazy just enjoys farming it is what he did as a youngster and it would certainly be more peaceful than playing that's for sure.

Ping re-signed Westy Bubba and Louis at the same time, 2 or 3 years ago with very little fanfare (Rory > Nike was getting all the attention) Not many details were released except that they were all multi year deals.
I mean, who wouldn't prefer farming to golf!

Not like it's a backbreaking, nasty, exhausting, barely-any-profit making activity, clearly much better than pro golf. Many top golfers dream about leaving the nasty tough world of pro golf for the glamorous (and so so relaxing) world of farming, but they all can't be so lucky.

Never look at a swing, look at the ballflight. It's not figure skating!

rafal, where were you when I was growing up. That logic would have saved me so many hours swinging in front of a mirror. Don't let Michael Breed hear you saying that! He'll be afraid your trying to put him out of business.

Another gem. The only one I ever heard of was Byron Nelson, well ranching, but that's pretty close to farming. Then again, when he did it, they weren't making quite as much money on tour, so ranching was probably much more attractive.

Sorry to have strayed so far OT. I'm a fan of Louis', now I'm also a fan of rafal's.

You would probably like Brad Hughes stuff. He is an old school function over aesthetics type of guy. He does seem to have an axe to grindwith modern teaching but I get the impression from listening to him that he is a player who was wrecked by flawed modern teaching. He was a young prodigy who qualified for tournaments as a 16 yo but lost his game. He seems to lay the blame on teachers who tried to make him swing the way theh thought everybody should look when they swing instead of what produced solid ball striking fundamentals. It never ceases to amaze me how many successful tour players, entrust their livelihoods to guys who couldn't cut it on even the mini tours so instead became 'swing gurus'. Some people find his instruction a bit long winded and he is definitely a bit mono tone and could work on his presentation skills, but overall I find him to be very informative and insightful. He has a very solid grasp on what works and doesn't work with the golf swing.

Thanks, I'll look for him. I can't blame any teachers, I went that way myself, thinking I knew more than most. I thought the most technically correct swing should be the most repeatable. I spent most of my teens with a great looking swing getting beat by players who knew their ball flight and played golf. I still get stuck trying to swing a certain way, rather than just playing the game. Old habits.

He should have won that Masters… still can't believe that putt at the 18th didn't drop and that the albatross costed him like two shots… hopefully he will win a Green Jacket soon!

does it matter?

nobody buys equipment because of what a pro plays anymore...... do they?

Pretty sure he's just taking the Mickey. Any guy who works in the pro shop and sells ProVs for $60 a box to chops with double digit handicaps can tell you it matters.

Stoppit. No one buys eqpt because pros play it. Well, I do, but no one else does!

I think it's too far to say that he won't ever contend in a major again. He's playing pretty well right now, just finished top 10 at the DP Tour Championship. I wouldn't be surprised to see him bag at least another major before he's done. With that swing and a decent short game, he can show up and win any week if it's all there.

LO is one of my top five, so I think I know his ability to contend and win in major(s).

I'm just saying that I've heard more than once about his poor work ethic. You add that and injury prone and you have a recipe for non contention (just saying).

Everyone speaks absolutes here though.

He has won an Open and has playoffed a Masters, even with those ingredients. So evidence is to the contrary.

Interesting.
Maybe his condition prevents him from practicing as much as he, and critics, would like.

He is the kind of player that is either in the mix, or way out if it.

So is he switching to Srixon or not, seems like it was to happen, it would of already taken place.
Indeed, when this thread was started I was expecting something at the start of '15. When I see him, I think of this thread.

I don't know what the deal is. Clearly still has Ping stuff. Maybe they ponied up, or maybe it wasn't going to happen at all.

Well of course, and I've read/quoted that article many times on here, but it says "multi-year contracts" and nothing more. So I was assuming (wrongly) that it may have been up at the end of 2014, given some of the evidence the thread (the picture).

It would be playing really, really far in front, If Cleveland were to shoot a commercial when the contract is still more than a year from expiring, and it would make no sense at all for them to shoot a commercial without even a contract in place. But then again, I am assuming that PINGs contact ends on Dec 31

So back to square one....who the h3ll knows :dntknw:

It's noteworthy to me. Not many players come or go from Ping in the first place. Also remember that Ping doesn't have many Major winners, and really only one of those remains relevant. Having one of those go may diminish branding, obviously.

Louis will probably be okay. And as smooth as his swing is with its lauded "flat left wrist," it still produces a 2 way miss.
I really like Louis. But somehow I don't think him leaving Ping will diminish their brand in any way. I could be wrong but pings name is so iconic and carries so much weight in the industry, even as great as Louis is I think they'll be alright.
