What's the worst shot you have ever seen?

Dude hits ball into condos on par 3. He goes into the yard. Lady comes outside in robe and towel in hair...giving him dirty look. He says "Were you expecting a tennis ball?"

Saw a guy hit a tee shot that came up and struck him in the hojo's. Didn't think it could be done, but then I tend to think the best of people.

I was playing with a group of friends. One of my buddies was hitting his 2nd shot with some kind of fairway wood off the deck, he absolutely tries to kill this thing!!! Barley makes contact with the top of the ball, it pops strait up in the air and he ends up hitting it on his follow through and went forward like 15 yards. Best double hit ever haha! We all could'nt stop laughing, he's never really heard the end of it since then either.

In high school one of my teammates hit the tee marker a few yards ahead. The ball went backwards over everybody's heads, hit the clubhouse then the path and ended up a yard behind where he hit his tee shot.

Another, I was playing in a Keller Williams Am Tour event and on the first tee this guy goes completely under the ball with his driver. Takes a huge divot that the ball ends up in. He goes back to the cart to get an iron and hits it down the fairway. Then he hits a 3 wood to 5 feet. I told him this would be the best par I've ever seen, He 3 putted it. Oops.

During a best ball tournament I witnessed a shot that I still am not sure is possible. On a tee shot from a tee that is set back bordered by woods on both sides. The tee is set slightly forward of the previous green- maybe 20 yards up. the "drive" went about 45' angle behind him and landed roughly 5 yards off the previous green. So some how he opened the face or toed it in such a way that the ball went diagonally backwards.

I've hit my share of terrible shots over the years, but the worst I've seen was hit by someone else, who cold topped one on a soft tee box, and it drove into the ground, spun back, and ended up about 6 inches behind the ball.

The worst/best I've seen was playing with a business associate, who is a good athlete, but not a golfer. On two separate occasions, he topped a drive so it popped up in front of him, and as it was on its way down, he had the prescence of mind and hand-eye coordination to take another swing and make contact, advancing the ball a good 75-100 yards. It was truly amazing to witness!

I've also seen a buddy break his driver at the hosel by contacting the ball with the shaft.

Ummm...it seems like the previous shot is often "out-worsed" by my current shot during a round.

At least that keeps "the worst shot I've ever seen" fresh in my memory.

One time I was playing in the rain and maybe this isn't the wort shot ever but my driver slid completely out of my hands at the top of the swing and I "whiffed" the ball with no club at all.

Does that count?
[/quote]

I had several whiffs this year, in the same round no less, it was getting very worrisome to say the least.

but the worst shot i've seen also came from my club. on a wet track in the fairway, i literally hit the ball into the ground about ten feet in front of me and it plugged.

playing partner hit a skull low driver onto the wooden sign of the hole to finish about 25 yards behind the tee box. He was playing is second shot farther from the hole compared to his first. hahahahaha

My worst is a whiff in a bunker. Trying to really cut the ball to make it pop up and spin. Simply cut so much that I missed the ball. twice in the same round.

Back in my country club caddie days, a guy hit a grounder with a 7-iron off the tee of a par-3, it hit the left red tee marker about 20 yards ahead, came backwards and up, went over our heads, and ended up in a swamp behind the tee. Guy tees up another one, EXACT same thing happens, except this time it hit the right tee marker.

Worst shot I ever hit went 2 inches. Needed to go three and I would have made nationals in college. Near whiff on a tap in on 18.

I was playing in a juniors tournament when I was a kid. I had about a 70 yard shot into the green. I took a solid cut, looked up and couldn't find the ball. I glance to my right and visually acquired the ball as it was screaming right towards a kid in our foursome. He had walked up the right hand side of the fairway and wasn't watching assuming i new what I was doing. Before I could even attempt to shout "fore" the ball caught him square in the side of the head, and dropped him like a sack of potatoes. He ended up being fine, but it put him out of commission for the rest of the day with a nice egg on his head. He was one of the better golfers so I guess I gave someone else a shot for the win. It's funny to think back on it now, cause I thought I had really hurt the guy in the moment. My friends gave me crap for months after...

I've seen a lot, but the one that stands out the most was my own two years ago.

Playing with some guys that I'm a customer of so it was a free round for me at a nice course. In our foursome that day: one is pretty solid 70s shooter the other two are low 90s. I can shoot anywhere from the upper 70s to low 100s, just depends on the day. Believe me, I have skills and a whole repertoire of good AND crappy shots. However on this day I was playing very well and was actually only 1 over through 7 holes. On the tee box I was feeling pretty confident because the driver was barking like I wanted it to on this particular day.

The hole was a dog leg right that I easily had the distance to cheat a little on, only I had intentions of cheating a lot. I was planning on laying waste to my competitors before they even had time to restock on beer at the turn. I looked at the group and announce my intention, because who wouldn't - am I right? Oh and by the way, I should let you know there are houses all over this course, lots of nice houses.

Now a little about me, I can work the ball both ways. My natural shot is a little fade, although I can draw/hook the ball at will. I'm actually more comfortable controlling the draw/hook than trying to increase my fade to a slice. Maybe that's weird to some, but it's just the way I am. By the way, see where this story is going?

So I tee up, go through my routine and address the ball. I pull back and let it fly. Ball starts out exactly on my intended line and starts fading (of course) - and keeps fading until it enters slicing territory. At this point the world slows down, laws of physics cease as they relate to time. I see the ball and the line it's on, at the end of that line is the second story window of one of these nice homes.

Did you know that a golf ball can rebound off of a piece of glass? Neither did I until that day. I have just violated the innocence of this lovely family's home. The ball actually came back to rest, just in play, inside the OB marker placed in the edge of their backyard.

Before we even leave the tee box, the female occupant was standing on the steps to the back patio - arms folded and holding a notepad awaiting our arrival. Information was exchanged and we all went about our business. I actually made par on the hole and my buddy that I do business with insisted on taking care of any cost.

As we get to the next tee, just as I'm getting ready to tee off, my buddy looks at me knowing I'm already shaken by the prior events and says "by the way, she told me that was the infant's room".

I ended up shooting a 103.

I'll never understand why people who choose to buy a house on a golf course, especially those who buy them in spots that are in places where players miss a lot (about 180-220 down the right side on any hole, or in the inside corner of a dogleg) get bent out of shape when the inevitably happens and their house gets hit. It's something you should really know is a hazard of the location where you choose to live. It's like buying a house across the street from the airport and complaining about how loud it is.

I caddied for a buddy of mine in the local US Open qualifier. He shot 98. The worst shot in my opinion was a tee shot on a par 3. The hole was about 185, he pulls a 7 iron and proceeds to hit his ball about 100 yards left of his target onto another green, and hits another competitor. We was 16 over par after 7 holes. Good finish though.
