There are two guys I can't stand because of their cheating, lying and throwing innocent people under the bus. Ryan Braun and Lance Armstrong. I called for Braun to be traded due to his actions. Armstrong is worse as he actually threatened those who were going to tell on him.

I find it difficult to classify Lance Armstrong's behavior as a simple "mistake".

Characterizing either of these guys as having "made mistakes" is a joke. Both of them did anything they needed to do to roll over any innocent bystander who got in their way. Neither gave a second thought to ruining the lives of people who were guilty of only doing their jobs or trying to enforce the rules under which these phony's insisted they operated. "Made mistakes"? That's an absolute total joke!

The same trap that has gotten all print media has gotten Golf Digest. There is so much content on the web available for free (thanks, WRX) that they have to find something to sell ad space. So they have articles with LA, blurbs about Cabot Links and Streamsong, meaningless club tests and pictures of upcoming club releases.

Both of those guys are why I don't follow their respective sports anymore. Okay, with baseball, Braun was more like the straw that broke the camel's back. With cycling, cheating is still so rampant that they should allow the riders to do whatever they want. Don't cry or whine if you die young like the Raiders or Steelers of the '70's.

Recent issues have lamented the lack of illegal aliens playing the game, made a hero out of the idiot that yells "babalooey", or whatever, and generally does all it can to destroy the true spirit of the game. As a kid I played competitive tennis and watched as the game was transformed from one played by "ladies and gentlemen" to one where dressing like a slob and questioning every call that goes against you is the norm. Golf is headed the same way. I'm surprised that Dan Jenkins still writes for Golf Digest. He has too much class

GD has gone so far downhill it's not worth looking at anymore, except for Dan Jenkins. It's getting thinner and thinner each issue as well. My subscription will expire and not get renewed, that's certain.

Of course i just renewed right before the Jenkins mess. I read that article and it really turned me off. I received the January issue the other day and i skipped over the Jenkins article. I refuse to read his stuff anymore. And before i am accused of being a Tiger fan, im not.

I have also noticed the magazine keeps getting thinner. But i guess there arent many new releases to give gold or silver ratings too. I dont take any equipment reviews seriously because they arent going to bash a OEM because a driver doesnt perform or say that it is overpriced.

I wont cancel my subscription but i may not renew again if this keeps up

Jenkins has also gone downhill in recent years, and the latest GD includes yet another fake story from him, about the conversation at the first meeting of the Ryder Cup task force. While not quite as vitriolic as the fake Tiger interview, it is again pretty rude and completely unfunny. Time for Jenkins to hang it up. And time for GD to reset and get back to golf.

There was a time when the golf magazines were a treat to get to keep informed on what was happening with the game. Unfortunately electronic media and communications have rendered them casual reading material for the john or doctor's office. I still get GD and Golf because they practically give them away and at times I need something to browse. I admit to still enjoying Golf Tips magazine, but that too has become repetitive.

I did not receive the latest GD, and perhaps I forgot to renew it. I don't know if I would miss it and cannot imagine promoting Lance Armstrong, but they must be desperate for attention.

I enjoyed Lance's interview.

A guy who could be so brilliant in one sport and kind of sucks at golf, a game he plays almost daily. 250+ rounds a year and Chuck Cook as your coach and you can't break 80. That is great stuff. Golf will bring out the humility in anyone. Ask Tiger, he was last in his own tournament last week.

the problem isn't the mistake Lance made. It was the lying to cover it up, the bullying to keep it quiet and the continuation of doing what he shouldn't be doing all the while presenting this great guy image.

To defend my comments earlier I've personally known 2 people who used lance as "their strength " to beat cancer and they did . My image may be a little differnt the your images of him , but cheating like this is rampant in sports and it's not just lance . Be around sports and people trying to get to the next level and you will see it. It's not like he was the only person to ever cheat he was just bad about how he went about it later

I enjoyed the article as well for some similar reasons

But it is at best a fluff piece to help rebuild lances image and a semi effective one at that:

After reading it i found myself think "why didnt he just whistle blow the cycling world himself? He was its biggest star and would have not been vilified had he been the messenger of PEDs"

He is, without a doubt, one of the highest profile sociopaths in the history of sport. He's ruined careers, reputations, and, to a certain extent, some people's lives. Sorry but there shouldn't be a "second chance" for this guy. Shame on GD...

I agree, while I have never actually met him some of the things he did to people working for him are horrible. He used his gang of thug attorneys to ruin any person that dared question him. A creep and a liar.

He then went on air to apologize for his mistakes and he never even said the words "I'm sorry"

But yeah GD has really gone down hill.

I can't tell what direction they are headed. A younger demographic, fashion mag but still tons of ads for ciallis and hypertension medication, that doesn't make sense. They don't know what they want to be and who they are trying to attract.
