I sing silly songs to myself

When I get frustrated on the course, I'll hum a silly song to ease my tension. This past year's playlist included YMCA, Sister Christian, and whatever the latest Taylor Swift song was.

When I'm playing well (for me) I always seem to have a tune stuck in my head. Means I'm not overly tense.

Drive hooks into the trees, punch shot goes through the branches cleanly and ends up in the trees on the other side of the fairway, punch back out leaving myself laying 3/hitting 4 with a 155 yd shot to a front pin... Time for a war-hammer 9 iron.

It rarely goes according to my wildest dreams and aspirations of the pin-high 155 yd 9 iron.

I like to reset a bad swing or putting stroke by singing a song in my head. It has to be positive or confidence inspiring for golf. On the silly side lately it's been Dark Horse by Katy Perry or Fancy by Iggy Azalea.

On the non-silly side I currently like Regulate by Warren G and Lateralus by Tool.

I have a 10 month old. A bunch of her toys play little kid songs at the touch of a button. A month ago I'm walking down the fairway in my own world. One of those songs, "who's on the farm today.... Mr Pig oink oink..." is looping in my head. My buddy (who doesn't have kids) starts laughing, whacks me on the shoulder. He mockingly asks, "what the hell is that?" I had no idea I belted two verses out loud. Thankfully, the other two in the group are dads, and came to my defense.

Sounds like a technique taught in Inner Skiing, I don't know about inner golf. Sing to keep your conscious mind occupied in order to allow the subconscious mind to best perform.

I have a 2 1/2 year old, I have been caught singing Thomas the train theme song from time to time, most of the guys I play with don't have kids and one friend thought it was an old Irish song. It really calms me down when the wheels come off, I don't know if it it's the rhythm or it makes me think of my son, but it helps me.

Concrete Blondes 'Caroline' has been bouncing around in my head for a couple months. Like everywhere. Love the song, just getting a little freaked out. Way past the normal time limit for a song.
