Fairway wood for 2015

Hi all

 

My 3 wood (TEE XG6) is up for swapping out start of next year

 

Has anyone got any star fairway woods for next year? I hear good things about the 915F, but has anyone hit the new R15 yet? Or the Cally?

 

Any thoughts would be great

I am hearing really mixed reviews on the fairway! Some love it, and some are saying it just isn't long enough!

One thing I do love about my XG6 is just how long it is! I don't really want to lose distance

I hit the new Callaway Big Bertha: excellent fairway wood; easy to get off the deck and the length is good for me. Also sampled the G30: I am a Ping man these days but, the G30 just didn't seem to have the length for me. Nothing has knocked the X2 Hot 3 and 5 woods out of my bag. Easiest to hit and longest woods I've ever hit.

This. You can pick one up off eBay for around $90. I did it just messing around with a few extra dollars happy with my 913 F.d and ended up making it my gamer. Worth the experiment IMO.

Srixon F45 in both models. A young pro says he has been seeing better performance from it compare to the X2 Hot.

All my buddies are switching to one of the newer Bertha's. I haven't hit it yet but two are saying they hit it near driver length.

My friend has the out going BB fairway, and he is really long with it! Just never got on with the head shapes of the Bertha for some reason!


Has anyone hit the Vapor fairways yet? A lot of talk about the drivers and irons, but not the fairways?

I tried the 913FD. It is without a doubt a superior club. The larger head profile made it a rocket off the tee. However, I did have a bit of trouble hitting it consistently off the deck. And that is one of the areas in which the X2 Hot really does shine for me. On the other hand, if the FD does it for you, more power to you!

913F was better in every way than the 915 for me. R15 didn't feel good at all, thought the Burner Aero was good though. The G30 is one of the better feeling 3 woods, but it's not for those that want big distance.

I did the Diamana D+ 82 gram X-Flex. I'm sure that didn't help my height issues with the club. Looking back I wonder what a Tour AD-DI would have done. Considering I hit the X2 Hot 15 yards farther I doubt the shaft difference will make the F.d surpass the X2 Hot for me, and not worth $150 to find out. I got the X2 Hot in a Aldila Tour Green 75X and love the trajectory in it though. I would've probably gotten a 915 F if it wasn't for them making the head bigger, and I'm kinda turned off to the F.d line now.

What are the reasons you are swapping out your xcg6? That should give everyone an idea of what you are looking to move towards.

Personally, I have just moved to the xcg6 4 wood, mainly to be used off of the tee. The size and forgiveness were the main reasons for the change. I played a 15* 910F and 910FD and I found the club too demanding and too small for me off the tee. I also wanted a bit more launch and the added distance of the xcg6 allowed me to move to a 4 wood without sacrificing the distance gap I wanted.

G30 and 915F - but I'm biased. To the original comment that the G30 is short, I do not find that in any way, it's a very solid club. I personally like the feel of the 915F a bit better, but either are awesome 3 woods.

To be honest, I don't think distance wise I can moan about the TEE but its not the easiest club to hit off the deck, quite a big sized head. If I could find something as long as the TEE but smaller in size then thats a winnner

Makes sense. I knew that the xcg6 would be a bit more difficult off the deck. I think the 16.5* will help. but certainly will need to be a good lie with the larger head (200cc I believe).

If my references are correct, the 910f was 155cc (way too small for me) and the new 915f is 175cc. I think that may be worth a look as well as other 170-180cc heads. I have always had success with Callaway fairways too.

Maybe look at some 4 woods as well if you are looking for forgiveness off the deck.

The taylormade woods are pretty good now days The longest 3 woods I've ever hit were the rocketballs 3 wood and the X Hot series by callaway. I don't stray from the main brands though.

I decided to try the TEE cb5 4 wood at 16.5 with Aldila Phenom shaft as I had the same issue with seeing such a large footprint 3 wood and so far am enjoying the ease of hitting off the deck.

It sounds like the E8 beta 3w would be a good move. It comes stock, with the Aldila rogue in a variety of weights and flexes. I'm switching to it from an xcg6 as well. Tee fairway woods are just so good.
