A quick bucket at the range was rewarding. I will be teeing off at first light tomorrow playing an iron only 9 holes.

My GIR would be better but I was just off the fringe twice. Had my putting been better, I would have been banging. I had 3 inside of 10 feet I totally should have made for birdie. But I was very happy overall with that round.

Haven't posted for a few weeks, but if @Jonesy is back posting, then I have no excuses.

After going into a slump in spring last year due to an early release of the trail arm, I think I can safely say that I am out of it now. The most effective cure came when I checked my address and released I was standing too far away from the ball.

The last couple of months, I've been hitting the ball well, but not scoring that great.

Went for 9 holes last week one evening with persimmon and RAM Tour grinds.

WiTPB20241010woods.jpg.654b18cbebdeeff2dbe0e6614b25e84e.jpgWiTPB20241010RAMironsbullseyeputter.jpg.a0658364d21cc6355ce3a404a08f4c70.jpg

Hit the woods OK, but only hit one fairway, and that was with the 2i.

Maths question: worst score on any hole was a bogey, hit 7 out of 9 greens in regulation, yet scored 41 for the nine holes. What was the problem? Hint in the picture below:

Nishi5thgreen.jpg.099d56e65989d53138dced5430cb8e6c.jpg

Five or six of the greens were like this. We've had--or are even having--a long, hot, dry summer, and the greens on many courses around here are fubar.

The greens weren't completely to blame, though. I putted awfully, including missing two really good chances on the two par 5s.

Then I played a round with my MP4s a few days ago. No practice since the previous nine holes, and it showed. Hit the irons better on the back nine, and even managed my first hole-in-one on the 12th. 116 yards (it's the shortest hole on the course) with my 51° Srixon A wedge, and the ball span back into hole.

I was over the moon, though the funny thing is, looking back, I am actually happier with the 4 tough par saves I managed with my lob wedge. One out of a deep bunker, one a delicate pitch that worked out exactly as I pictured it, one off a scrappy lie over a bunker and under a branch, and one that was an all-or-nothing flop shot from 50 yards from a weird lie over a bunker to a flag about 3 paces off the green. It finished within 3-foot.

The hole-in-one was a stroke of luck, but those lob wedge shots were the result of practice.

Congratulations on the hole in 1!!

Need the down and dirty on the heads. Feel, spin, increased flirting from the women's league? Tell us everything.

I'm still waiting for the SIM to reopen so I can see some numbers, but they keep pushing out the date. The feel is good and the yardage seems about the same as my usuals, as expected.

I'm kind of surprised by how good they are, but I'm also kinda not. It's a solid shape, seems like a solid build quality, so you sort of expect it. It's the price I can't get over. Are these really $19 each? $19? 🤣

@lefthackThe Haywood MB is quite low offset at ~1.75mm. The new blade does look 2-3mm more offset to me in that photo^^

Were the weights on the heads within a few grams of the sheet you received? Have you been able to check loft/lie angles yet?

My similar (non-blade) experiment set arrived flat with a few odd numbers but overall it was quite close to what I'd expect from a name-brand.

I hadn't compared them to what the specs said, but these are the weights I got on my ghetto scale.

PW 297.4

9 287.6

8 279.5

7 271.1

6 269.2

5 259.6

4 255.6

I don't have a way to properly measure lie, let me see if the pro shop will measure them for me and see.

Rather than a direct side by side, let me take one each at the same angle. It might be slightly more offset, but it really isn't much, if any.

<edit> I got them as even as I could.

Well at least you tried.

If we want to do a group buy we can still do it off the wrx site but it would be difficult to organize it.  But if somebody does... I'm in.  🙂

Most sites I've been on will only support group buys from vendors they have a relationship with. Even then sometimes they go poorly but most of the time it guarantees a smoother transaction. The WRX crew probably doesn't want to risk being in the middle if it goes off the rails.

Yeah I get that. I was offering to run the whole thing and gave them all the info. It's a hell of a lot less work for me, that's for sure. 🤣

Somebody had mentioned that there was a guy selling them on a golf discord somewhere for about the same price built with what was supposed to be KBS shafts without the sticker.

I was quoted $310 built with stiff graphite shafts. I already had the KBS from my Toura experiment, so I just got heads.

Definitely not a reverse offset guy haha. Those two clubs I posted above I absolutely love how small and thin the top line is and the feel with the copper underlay but the 8 9 W Are so ugly to my eye with th massive offset I can’t bag them 🤨

Not surprised by this, we are just content creators for others to profit off of.  But not allowing us to use our dms and organize a group buy off site seems a bit sponsor relations and not community spirit inspired……I mean ahh, hey I’ve been banned once like a decade ago, so imma shut up now😂

I love your dive into this, they look the part for sure and this was a super awesome experiment for this thread.   I’m not sure if I got into this here, but I did buy a fake Cameron Napa putter from Japan and it is all my fault as I caught the auction with minutes left and scrambled and the fact it had 12 bids made me screw up.  Anyhoo, it really does feel good and rolls it as well as could be expected.  $80 on Ali baba…..found the exact one after the fact…it’s not even a good fake, but it was a good fake listing.  All that said, for $80 it’s a baller putter….

I’m not even mad about it, and the fact it’s OK didn’t hurt.   I needed the lesson/reminder, and nothing is worse than a cheap customer who doesn’t have appropriate expectations regarding their acknowledgement of the risk/reward on getting a deal.   I also game$260 kyoei irons and destroyed my last impulsive get, a 9/10 condition Byron Dh 89 for the cost of it dragged behind a golf cart/10 condition. It just slipped through the cracks.  Ying/Yang it all balances out in the end and all that..

Shot an awesome 82 today.  Windy as holy get out, like more than pre hurricane, so I played the tips cause that sounded like max fun today.  44 on front was not great score but I was playing solid.  Dropped a 38 on back bogeying last 3 back into the wind.  I hit 3 greens in regulation, my clubs into the par 3s were 5i/hybrid/3 wood/hybrid, none hit a green… I had 190-250 into everything.  I had 3 GIR, one birdie, and whatever amount of bogeys makes the score.  It was basically a pitch and putt for par.  If anyone is into having fun, nothing is more fun than playing the back tees in crappy weather, it builds character 😂.

Best shot of the day was on the hardest hole on that 9. I hit a big drive, had 193 in, cross wind, I said to myself sometimes you just have to smoke a 5 iron(your boy isn’t as long as he used to be, and I embrace that)…. I sent a wind holding draw straight over the flagstick to 18ft.  There is the hobby and there is the game, I love when they come together and that was this shot.   Sure any club would have hit it and felt great, but oh man that kyoei/modus feeling shooting into my brain cells just as my eyes roll up see what I saw in my head 20 seconds before hitting it materialize makes the best feeling in golf just sooooo much better.  I won’t stop playing blades until I lose the speed to get them in the air.   #Feedback4life

Picked up a Paradym TD #5W, the T model, the one made for Rahm, got it off BST this week. Deeper faced, bonded shaft & 2* open on setup. Plays like a #4W in trajectory & distance, and the feel is world class. Blown away how nice this club swings and performs, easier than TSR hybrid and longer to boot. Fits where I'm at in bag setup, so bye-bye #3W, hello TD T #5W, it won't be missed.

I think there is an insane amount of overhead that is unrelated to the actual product built into a lot of brand names.  I’m sure Miura etc is better in every way….., but diminishing returns go parabolic on tools like these for that.  No better example than putters.   I am positive that we could all shoot our personal best with an Ali baba forged head if the specs were specs we gel with.  I am under zero delusions regarding any of my expenditures in this hobby.  I may have turned a $1000 putter into my gamer, but believe me I didn’t want to.  I got it to collect, no more.   The thing is if you actively practice putting with 20-40 putters at any given time you are going to a** backyards fall into one that feels like it was made for you.   It’s not good because it’s a golds, it’s good because I’m good with it.  Same for any club.  After a certain point (Ali baba it would appear) they are all good, it’s whatever you stumble upon that you gel with stays in the bag.  I am rocking a 913F 3 wood for longer than putter.  I got a backup for $40 because the face taken a beating but it feels as hot as ever, I love that club.  There is a saying in fishing…”you don’t leave fish to find fish”.

I think my Kyoeis permanently took my bag as well.   I miss the small blade feel, I really do, but I play these better, and the PW is more than a tiebreaker for me.  I love my whole bag and I have an open spot.  I had the most fun this summer than I have had in years.  I really enjoyed playing again.  And I even really got my driver going down the stretch.  My subconscious confidence improved to the point I can’t even jinx it by typing it.   A lot of 70s rounds for me and 2 75s and good vibes on the blow up days and the hard 80-82 days.   My gir(Irons) are the problem.  And I feel like my irons always inverse of my driver as far as hot or cold.  There is a hitch in my swing, learning more about that is next summers goal.

@No_Catchy_Nickname I missed the hole in one, nice job to scratch that off your list!

My buddy who doesn’t know and hates golf was shocked I’ve never had one, he was like all the golf you play, I would think you would be good?   I haven’t even been close enough to be that excited in a while.   I tried to explain how rare they really are for all the balls sent at par 3s everyday.  Then he told me that pros have all got multiples of them… With that, Cheers mate! You are half way to going pro!
