I'll 2nd this sentiment. Also, a huge issue of redo on heads is weight will get subtracted by as much as 4 grams. That's a lot to me. Irons with patina and knocks can be beautiful, my 40 SX's are beat to all hell but the shots are still lovely.

yea after reading more about them I’m thinking I’ll use them for an actual playable build rather than a refinish. I’ll still probably buy a set of something cheap and beat up in the future to refinish but even then it’s more about learning something new and having a new tinkering project. Don’t have space for project cars or extra furniture right now and golf clubs don’t take up much space, but def agree this is not the right set for that.

Sorry for the non blade content, but this was rather timely given today’s discussion. Two deliveries arrived today, both ordered on the 24th.

The Maruman cavities that go with my previously posted Pro-X milled blades, and some PRGR TR500.

These are awesome!  They remind me of the TaylorMade RAC irons (possibly wrong recollection).  Or maybe the TR in this iron reminds me of the TP on TaylorMade irons???  Either way, they are amazing, Fairways and Greens!!

How much do you guys usually have in mind as a ´target price´ for these older blade sets?
On eBay, unless you´re extremely lucky - and I have been, twice on eBay - a lot of Good-to-Very-Good condition iron sets seem to cost around $375 - $630

So anytime I’ve went into it saying I want this set but only want to pay this much I haven’t found anything. But if I say ok I want some old blades that are both cheap and then either A- interesting or B- possible gamers then look and see what’s available under that price point I’ve had decent luck.

But I have a thing for old, interesting, somewhat unique, or just generally cool to me type stuff, so I’m flexible. I think that’s been a big part. But as far as price I usually just browse the available listings to get an idea for the range and then look for the best offering at the bottom of the range and decide if that price is worth it to me or not. I have no intent to resell any of the clubs I buy so it’s more about is this a deal I’m excited about.

So I now have 25 rounds on these crazy Skully blades and they are pretty fantastic. The reality is they are a forged blade that's basically a Miura MB101 in lefty, so I'm kinda not surprised by the performance. But I still can't get over the price and they still look incredible. Like zero signs of wear and I use a wire brush on them.

Were those the ones from a month or two ago with the black finish?

Correct. I know the ground is wicked soft right now but these aren't showing anything.

That’s crazy, what is the coating?

Not quite sure. I melted it when I swapped the shafts on the 5 iron. It's black under the coating, too.

on another forum, someone mentioned that they might have been released in 1999, which is interesting if they are 25+ years old

Have bought from Buyee many times. Total legit.

Also the same item listed in multiple places.

No issues what so ever.

Way cheaper than on eBay where they list the item as well.

Very happy with them.

Only thing is their standard length is shorter than European standard.

#5 iron is 38" in EU

#5 iron is 37.75 in JP

i've been using zenmarket which is basically just allowing me to bid on y!auctions. What i've noticed is there are multiple posts "from japan" on ebay with different prices of the same clubs and if i search them on zen/y!auctions ill find the original listing for potentially 50% less. People seem to be marking up items from local auctions and trying to peddle them on ebay, dont know how that exactly works ie buying on the buy it now prices who actually wins the item. For example i bought a set of OnOff Kuro 2015's for 220AUD (plus shipping/GST etc) and the ebay listings were 500+, using the exact same photos. Same with the Miura HY SE's i just got for 210AUD and they were on ebay for 500 plus again.

I do find it easier to search ebay as the translation/search doesnt quite work the way i would think of, so end up finding an item on ebay and then cross check it in zenmarket to find the original.

I know people cop a bit of flak for irons with head covers but I think with such a nice set I want to keep the condition as I got them for as long as I can.

I had the heads buffed at a local repairer but was given the option to bring them back to new like condition which would cost about 90AUD per head, which I'm not prepared to do yet as I'll play them

Posting in this thread because I've come to respect the knowledge base of the membership that posts in here regularly about all the issues associated with respect for blade irons in terms of use, restoration, and history.

While I still occasionally play my MP-33's and will never part with them, I have recently put a set of Cobra LIMIT3D irons in the bag and love both the muscle back look and the considerable forgiveness/playability/feel.

I have no agenda or strong feelings regarding what I'm now going to ask you folks.

Should such new tech 3D printed irons be considered "blades or MBs" if their basic design has the "look" and similar specs of traditional blades/MBs or does a whole new category "title" need to emerge when discussing what will likely now be an expanding iron build technology?   In other words is the 3D printed tech just a sub-descriptor like "forged" or "cast" when discussing blades, MBs, CBs, and other iron sets or is it more correctly viewed as a new and distinct niche.

Again, just curious how you folks feel about this?

For me, depends on whether it's solid or hollow.  I haven't looked into the 3D printed products, so can't speak to them.

I guess it's a way of saying appearance is not my governing factor, but rather substance?

Having a few 3d printers and knowing how they generally put down layers, I think albeit PLA vs a Metal, I would say I would class blades similar.

So never owning blades prior or forged irons in that fact, then getting 2 pairs recently, they really feel different to me. Like you feel each shot and it seems to me like the feel is a little harsher?

Might (most likely me) be my game and that I'm use to GI irons, but just something I was noticing the last view visits at the simulator

One reason many folks respect blades is because such clubs often feel like "butter" if nutted in the sweet spot but kinda yowl and vibrate like a starving cat in the early morning hours if struck out of that sweet spot.  In other words, they often clearly communicate any swing shortcomings.

This is why I play them. I learn (usually) from my misses and a well struck shot is just so rewarding. If I hit it right, I don't even have to look, I know right where it went.
