Blade users thread (NO DEBATING CLUBHEADS! NO Buy Sell Trade!)

690.mb for me was the 1st blade I truly fell in love with. Having recently acquired the 710s, and traded them, I think titleist took a step back. Haven't played the 33s enough to make a true judgement on which I prefer, but the 33s have one big nostalgic shadow to move out f r on under

So fellow nuts of the highest order !!! Today was the day i got back out there... Been hitting balls most every day 3/4 and pitch shots... really taking it easy.. also had a setback last week when i pulled another muscle in my back tying my shoe... Ive taken it super easy since then ( keep in mind i have a very physical job and for me taking it easy is not lifting heavy things and not gettng into any heavy twistng motions. I never just sit and do nothing ..) Ive been pain free for about 5 days and thats saying something ...

I had decided a late 9 with no expectations would be my re-entry today... well i was invited by our club Pro to play 9 at noon ...so i said " why not " and told him of my inury etc and that i would be taking it easy... So ill spare the boring details , but just say i went and shot a smooth 33 on the front nine with a 3 putt bogey .... I hit every green and never felt like i swung Hard... I carried my " no BS" bag of sticks which are in my signature now.. 680 2-pw and 2 wedges 53 59.... and my newport ive owned since 1998 ... i just decided i wanted a "reset" .. My Pro comented after #7.... " this is the best ive ever seen you control the ball..." and ive played with him weekly for years.. he then asked the question that blew my mind..he says " have you had to take more club into any green "? i thought a minute and said " nope...not at all... " then he says " i knew the answer , just wondered if you had thought about it " meaning i was getting same distances from more loft and less harsh swing... "smooth and out of the middle" he says ...

I feel about 10 feet tall ....! it was so effortless i cant describe it.. now i know this game is hard and ill play some bad rounds..BUT realizing control is where the scoring comes from is somehow a revalation to me ... go figure !

Been meaning to post these for a while. Here is my reshafted and regripped set of VIPs, 3-9i. This covers the 23*-45* range, and rather than splash out on reshafting the PW, which is like a shovel, I decided to settle on the seven clubs then go to a 50* MD2 wedge (so 50*, 54*, and 58 or 60*). There's also a 2i I might get redone, but I'm in such a slump at the moment it hardly seems worth it.

I play with a guy almost every week and for a while now, he was good a while back, but he just swung too damn hard, pulled the shaft back too far and yesterday he "got" it. The ball goes just as far, soft and straight....usually, anytime I don't hit it well, my first thought is , swung too hard....soft and straight....great read bh....it'll keep you healthy too

I know when my swing is "in the zone" when I don't feel I'm swinging long, but I'm generating club head speed and hitting long. However, sometimes I over compensate and try to swing short, and this doesn't work for me. There's definitely a sweet spot for my backswing. Incidentally, I haven't felt good about my backswing once in the last 3 or 4 months. Something is wrong, and I have lost a lot of swing speed in addition to consistency and accuracy.

You can create a lot of speed through impact, and maybe this is my face issue, but I really have a 3/4 swing and one of the guys I playing in scramble with is a long time Baseball player and he made a comment about how I didn't swing hard but create a lot of speed at the end. I have moved to this swing because of my back and a full turn feels wrong now, but I am wondering if that is the root problem of my timing/face issues, that last foot before impact. This winter I am going to try to take lessons once a month and just hit balls to stay up on my game. It is too late to fix anything now for end of my season, but I have to believe that I can solve my face problem with some work. If I can do that and really work hard on chipping early next year, I could very well get 3 shots on good days and 6 shots on bad days. There has to be a happy solution to holding off, and not losing shots weak and right. Although it was nice for me to watch Ryan Moore lose shots left yesterday when he was tryig to cut the ball...this game is hard. I really like him and he should have made Ryder cup team weeks ago.

As of late I've been convinced through threads here that nothing will feel as nice as Mizuno irons. Trying to find the perfect set of mp-4's now. Either that or re shaft my TM MB's.

Hard to find the perfect set of irons with the shafts you want.

At some point this off season will yield the set I'm looking for.

After years of playing what I call cavity blade type irons but always longing for a set of blades, I took the plunge and picked up a used set of MP-32's. My previous sets include MP-60's, Titleist 990's, and ZB's. Realistically, none of my previous sets are too far removed from a set of blades, but the overall look at address is much finer with the 32's.

Anyways, the change has been great. For the first time ever, I truly love my setup and look forward to playing with them. On the course, I'm hitting the ball every bit as well (or poorly) as with my other sets but I seem to be enjoying it more.

Now that I've made the jump to blades, I can't see myself ever going back. The wrx-er in me has set my sights on a new project set - a set of 670/680/681's or MP's that I can have stripped to just the raw head. classic and cool all in one.

Taylormade M1 430 w/ Matrix Speed Rulz C-Type X
Taylormade V Steel 15* w/ FujiSpeeder
Titleist 712U 18* w/ S300
Titleist 680 w/ S300 AMT

My issue is swinging too fast from the top...sometimes I feel that I start my downswing before I've finished my backswing. I am not a fast swinger generally and find that if I can try and accelerate smoothly from the top I have better results. When I say top, I mean three-quarters back ;-). I have tried the Matsuyama 'pause' at the top to try and slow the transition down and that sort of works for a bit. Sometimes when I can get the club in what feels like the right position at the top I feel that I can swing as hard as I like and release the club properly...this doesn't happen nearly often enough though.

It's quite odd that my favourite golfer growing up was Faldo but my swing more resembles his biggest rival Sandy Lyle :-/. By resembles, I mean that the only thing that my swing has in common with Lyle's is that it only goes back three-quarters of the way!

Lyle was one of the longest on tour with his three-quarter backswing but you can see his speed through the ball on the 14th at Wentworth (I think):

I also have embraced a 3/4 type swing with the face slightly open to avoid increas draw but always get that buzz when the ball is in the right spot at set up. The 3/4 swing completely eliminated my back issues and elbow issue with literally zero distance loss and accuracy gain....except with my driver

Another Lil vote for u guys, again involiving the nike vr tws

Got an unbelievable deal on a set of apex 99 mb heads, I'll tell u guys more when they arrive to avoid a jinx...

So it's between the hogan 99 apex and the vr tw heads for the nippon modus 130 stiff shafts...let me here ur opinions.

I'm leaning toward the hogans, but with the 588s, 33s, etc, the tws seem a more individual shape, but having played the hogans in high school, oh my do I miss them

Being that this thread seems to be an eclectic bunch. I figured I'd ask you all how much you think my set of TM Tour Preferred MB's with s300 shafts could go for on the classifieds. PGA superstore showed less than $200 for trade in value.

Trying to sell a few things to help get a set of mizuno or srixons.

When things get down to that price range, you'd likely be better off waiting for a globalgolf or dallasgolf 150% trade-in promotion or something like that to shift them.

The TM MBs are a niche of a niche.

I'm not knocking the irons I have 4-PW MCs and 8-PW MBs heads just sitting around I intended to play but haven't, just being realistic :)

Welp, I sold my MP-37s and bought the MP-69s in their place. I liked the 37s, and played some of my best golf this year with them (which isn't saying much) in some of the worst weather, but the 39s just felt better and were easier to swing. I think it's the thicker grips. I was a bit loath to part with the 37s, but I try to limit myself to four sets at a time....

I'll try to get some pictures up soon.

I hated them. But tht said you find a longer and truly more forgiving blade. My vega vm02s remind me of them, not in a good way. They have tall faces, I really hate tall faced irons, like a lot.

I also Didnt like the feel of them, the vegas at least feel like vegas. Of course that is all personal, but I found them clicky.

Never seen them in person, but like you, from stock photos I think they look neat and clean. If you are looking for something neat and clean, you might want to take a look at the Yonex Ezone MBs. I've never played them, but was e-stalking a set of heads for so long I forgot about them and it looks like someone else picked them up.

Different strokes for different folks, people like them. I think cb had them and also went back to Mizuno though..

They have a very thick top line, and a very tall face. It is all for their forgiveness and they are a fantastic engineering accomplishment in that regard, I just didnt like them, but doesn't mean you wouldn't love them.

Maybe its been discussed on this thread before but I wasn't finding a whole lot discussed about Fourteen Golf.

I stumbled on these today and me oh my, these are quite gorgeous IMO. Anyone know anything about these irons?

I'm with Bigmean on this one, although I didn't mind the looks so much. When I hit them, they felt really harsh. Like, "is this for real?" harsh. I like Fourteen's clubs (I would happily play more of their clubs if they were more affordable....), but those blades didn't do it for me.
