/hey, it's sort of a blade...

In Crocodile Dundee voice:

"That's not a blade. This is a blade!"

Ive ben looking into getting this putter since i putted with a random partners one day....it was the opposite of what i expected. Honestly felt better than my 2014 cameron, i most wanted to offer the guy a trade on the green....

I liked the 8802. Tried one in a shop and bought it. I like the look and it really does well. It's a confidence thing. It sucks when you act like a pathetic self pitying loser, but you're king when you're confident. Exactly like blades! It is faster than a white hot and the ping I can't recall.

It's really nice with v1 or DUO.

I caught myself looking at flanged blade putters last night.....I really can't do it, and I already have the best possible newest take on that kind of putter in the super amazing miura km350. I just really tighten up my gate on shorter putts and I agree that with those kind of outters you need to be swinging with confidence of your arc putting it on line.

No catchy, those art of putting and pro plat and original studio designs are truly putters worth what they charged back then, and are the BEST Camerons made. I pretty hate every production cameron made after those guys, but that whole lineup is good. Now as for your Newport, why do you think it may be not legit? I am by no means an expert but I find it really odd that it has no sight line in flange, and just says Newport And not art of putting anywhere which would be the series in raw/original gun blue. You are also in Japan so who knows what their release was, but I have never seen a blanked sight aid Newport and something else about it seems different......anyway, that said I think it is legit. I think it is either something pretty neat and rare(ish) or something JDM release, but I think it is a very cool putter and as much as something about it seems off to me, I think that it is in a good and collectible way not in a counterfeit way.......great putter.

I was recently given this Newport Tel3. It is apparently 1st. gen no sole stamp version. It is in pretty rough condition. Was pretty rusty when I got it. no sight line on this one either. I have sent it to TorreyRat who is on the forum for a full restoration. I played a couple of rounds with it before I pulled the heads and I like it a lot!!

Because this will bother me I am going to get to bottom of it for your hahaha.

This is the putter you got. Is it literally THE putter you got, or just the same one?

I didn't get mine from Golf Partner :) But otherwise it's the same, except mine was under 10,000 (after sales tax) (edit: that's yen I'm talking about, not dollars). There were three Newports in the shop. One had a different finish, which I have seen online on legitimate Newports. The other two were raw. I bought a raw one because I liked it more than the other two. The only reason I talked about its authenticity (and I was being a bit facetious, as I'm not that bothered by the issue, bearing in mind what I paid for it) was because there was no CoA, but back then there might not have been.

Incidentally, I have seen an Art of Putting Scotty on sale here, but the sole is different from my Newport.

Did somone say Titleist Tour Models?

This is from the secondhand set I played as a junior. I think it's the 79-80 model. The 3i was a right sod to hit, but they were OK otherwise. I remember that they ballooned terribly in the wind, though that may have been more the fault the ball and my swing. They're not the easiest irons to play, and certainly not the best in terms of feel, but I'll never get rid of them.

Yup, about 4 months ago, maybe more....only one time. I thought very heavily on getting them. Condition was 9/10. I forget the price, I want to say they were like in the hood of 2 and half grand by the time I would would have had them in hand. The real problem is that you couldn't do more than hit them a few times, and this set didn't have the wooden box and at that kind of coin you are buying them as something you need to be able to resell on eBay for north of 3500 to even consider it. Now for everyone saying that is stupid expensive, it is, but I believe they were $5k when issued, and sets for sale are borderline non existent. It is possible in America you could get 3-4 for them, but I wasn't prepared to pull the trigger and they were off auction in a few weeks so someone did.

Oh, and the lack of the sightline was something I liked about it. Plus, it really does feel nice.

But I am a bit embarrassed about owning a Scotty...

If you own a carbon Scotty there is nothing to be embarrassed about.....i have had a good many of those in my collection at one time or another and still have a Santa Fe, great putters. Now if you have a new SS Scotty with a bunch of screws and inserts and paid a thousand dollars for a circle T stamp then yes, embarrassed you should feel haha.

$5,600 or so. :)

I think a set of Wilson Staffs would be a much better use of that cash.

In a sport with so many worthless "limited" releases and 1/100 putters and clubs etc., that set probably is 90% plus mostly unused in collections/closets of the big money execs that got them as a gift, and even though there were 500 made, if you gamed them chances are you are the only one in the world using them that week. If money was no serious matter at all, again, like BH said the only thing holding back most things in life, that would be the dopest set of irons one could use, and unlike most rare or expensive things, I have zero doubt that they actually would play and feel amazing.

I doubt they would play and feel amazing for this old fella. Those x100's may be a bit of a stretch. Probably be sacrilegious to put ns pro 950's in em :)

I 6hink if you had them and played them, you wouldn't really care about what people thought if you put in the 950s...once you make the call to game them, the value is shot anyway. Used sets do pop up from time to time...

Well, tomorrow is my last day of membership....played today, shot 84, the whole club left of target went out the window and I am trying to just be positive to give the lessons thing another try and use the winter to really take out half the slop in my game...not be unrealistic or set expectations, but just make the slop not fatal. This is the first time since coming back from back surgery when I first came here and met you guys and got back into it that I have truly regressed over a period of time where it is a true regression. I mean, clearly I know I wasn't going to slowly get to scratch, but I am an optimist with howni think I can play. I have had a lot of really good rounds and alot of play to be proud of, but I know am going to be at this current wall forever until I can develop repeatable misses and more consistant ballstriking.

I played with a group this morning and one guy who I like a lot and he shot 75. I thought he shot like 78/79 because that is what it feels like, nothing flashy but nothing fatal. He is the typical order guy that just never ever makes a punitive miss, and in fairness he is the best putter I have played with. Playing today it was like an epiphany that I want his game. My game puts so much stress in my scrambling and manufactured shots and unforced errors. So this off season, that is my goal. Very broad, very vague, but as I get lessons and he says what are you trying to do, the answer isn't going to be shoot x or hit it farther, it is going to be I need to take half the stress off my rounds, starting with driver, and then irons by default if a cleaner swing.

Anyway, sorry for the ramble, and I knowneveryone is like duh, consistancy is the Grail for us all, but in today's round I got my doors blown off by it and watched all happen from the passenger seat, so it was extra in my face. He didn't do anything better than I can do, It didn't feel like someone better than me just waxed me, it felt like someone the same as me showed me how well clean golf scores.

Last day of membership? Giving up on blades? Have fun! I guess that's what it's all about. I'm excited to improve as much as I have and I intend to get a membership next year at a local CC and get out walking and play as many rounds as I am able. If I wear out the MP-4's...so be it. I want to get really clean with golf as you say and make good shots while still making sound decisions. It's obvious, but people fail to do it. The combination of capability and deliberation are what makes greatness.

So I'm playing golf today, really not doing so hot on the front nine. Ball not going where I want, weird loss of distance, except on a few shots here and there. Had to work hard to shoot +6 on that front.

Disgusted, I go to the car and swap out the Eye2+ I've been playing the last few rounds and replace them with my Muirfields. Suddenly i feel considerably more comfortable over the ball, it's now flying how I want it, even roughly where I want it. Consecutive birdies on 14/15, and with a double on 17 from driving in the trees, I shoot +2 on the back.

Looking down at the Pings got to me on the front, I guess. I've always had an issue with the larger clubhead, felt better looking down at the smaller Muirfield clubhead.

Golf is a funny game. :)

If I'd had persimmons with me, I'd have like put them in the bag at the turn, also...

edit:. The Wilson Staff FG Tour ball from this past year is really excellent. Absolutely love the feel and it's quite sticky on the short shots. Awesome stuff

I don't recall ever saying I was ever giving up on blades :).

Quite the opposite, I have had my vega money sitting in PayPal and other than checking on staff V4 auctions every now and again, I am not even looking for the eventual CB replacement.

I need my blades to get through this now as much as ever.

Avoiding those punitive misses is they key, though of course it's easier said than done.

Lots of Japanese courses have internal OB all over the place, so a miss here can quickly turn into a very bad miss.

I think I broke my personal nest earlier this year when I had 5 OB on one Nine. That was when my hooking problem was at its worst, but also the course was horribly narrow: the first hole had a fairway 15 yards wide and then 3-4 yards of rough on the left side sloping down into OB. The right was a bit better, but as the tee shot was blind, I didn't know where to aim.
