All superb, but those Pro-82's are soooo good looking.  I've always loved the MacGregor shape.  Old school Chicago forged! 🙂

These were actually made by Miura for MacGregor Japan 😎 But yes the MacGregors suit my eye better than any other irons from that period. Hogans are a close second but the E and 9i are a little too rounded. Maxfli DP-801 are great but they have a little too much offset. Wilson and Ram short irons are too square but the long iron shapes are excellent. With that said the performance and playability are all pretty close, which is to say as good as it gets.

I have two sets of the satin version. One set is NOS, I think a lot of irons have never had a breath of fresh air. They are sealed under plastic. I have another set in chrome. All 3-PW and I found a satin 1-iron that's about as pure as they come. I keep contemplating putting up the unhit set for sale...

Curious - do you blade users also play a soft ball or do you play a firmer ball? Just went and dropped a few Pro V1 to hit with my new Staff MB and oh my goodness - that soft/soft combo is UNREAL. I usually play Pro V1X so I’m rethinking that now 😂

I switched to the Snell, now the Prime 3.0, and haven't looked back.  I think they feel great off the blade and around the greens.

The weather here took a turn for the worse last weekend, causing my course to close down again for a few days.  Instead of playing golf today, I took a trip to a local driving range.  Decided to bring a couple extra toys along, because why not?  😁

Took one of my Golden Ram 1 irons with me (this was the TW276), along with a couple drivers, and on a lark, grabbed my J's Professional Weapon.  Loads of fun with the rather elevated tee on the mats at this range.  LOL

I found I can still hit that 1 iron pretty decently.  Nowhere near the distance I got 15 years ago, but I was getting it in the air fairly well, and fairly straight.  Surprisingly straight, actually.  The J's driver was kind of funny, I actually hit it within 10 yards of my Cobra SpeedZone (on a toe hit?  Really?).  Gives a guy ideas, LOL.

After hitting that Golden Ram, it made me think about putting the rest of that set in the bag, in place of the TS4 I've been playing.  Again, gives a guy ideas.  😉

Nice! I have a J's as well and it really files...when I catch one :).  Glad to know others are still out in the wild!!

Currently playing with MP-32s. These have been bent to my specs, asked for 6 degrees flat. So far these have been great! Of course, the season is only starting now. My home course is not even open for 2025 quite yet.

Already trying to figure out the next set. For lefties it is difficult to find blades. Even new sets rarely offer a 3 iron. Older sets are rare for lefties and pretty much without exception require reshafting and lots of bending.

New blades are upright, at least from the major brands. It is a bit annoying that you buy a set and then take risk of them being broken when bent.

That’s pretty gutsy catching a baby one like that. I’m sure you know, but most members on the board here probably don’t know that the little ones can’t regulate their venom flow and inject a large amount of venom when they bite you. Adult rattlesnakes sometimes won’t even inject venom when they bite. Just a dry poke. Nice hole in one!

OK, so I did it and have it all finished. I bought these set of blades off of eBay that lefthook was talking about. They seem very high-quality. If they had Titleist stamped on the back of them, they would be $200 a club. Lol. I plan to bend the set 3° weak. That way I have the lofts and the bounce that I have been accustomed to playing for a long time. Realistically, I’ll probably play a Titleist TMB four and five iron at the 23° and 26° loft slots. But 29° and up I will use these. Anyway, here’s some pictures for your enjoyment. Also, I shafted these with .355 shafts with collared ferrules and they fit very tightly. I can’t imagine a .370 shaft fitting in them. For some reason, one of the pictures I took of the faces does not want to upload and keeps giving me an error message. Please enjoy the pictures that I was able to post.

Guess it shouldn't be surprising given how many of the DTCs are just having those forgings stamped with their logo. 2 for 2 with you and lefthack picking some up. Those are some meaty soles though it seems like there's decent leading edge relief.

Hey guys. A while back I was looking at picking up a set of proper old school blades for a bit of fun / minimal second set / feel what old school blades were about. Unfortunately, life had other ideas but recently I’ve started looking again. I see these two sets offered locally near me - one set Cleveland 588 and one (apparently) a miura forged set of macgregors. I’ve attached photos, does anyone know much about either of these sets and can help me out? FWIW the macgregors apparently come with 6.5 precision shafts, and Cleveland’s just a regular flex steel (I normally play KBS Tour 130s so would need to change shafts on the Cleveland’s though the precisions might be ok?)

or would I just be better off hunting down a decent Japanese blade set and getting another set of KBS shafts to sub in to whatever else?

love to hear anyone’s thoughts on these sets!

If the price was right, I would give the MacGregor's a shot. Especially if the shaft would work out of the box.

I have been looking for some classic Wilson Staff, but older lefties are harder to find.

Playing this coming Sunday, have decided the Nike VR Pro II gets the bag. They are a bit less demanding than T-Stamps and at this point, could use that. Have weights inbound for R7 425 & Paradym #5. Never been in love with Cally stuff but the T head is an amazing metal. So good, don't really need a #3W. Have an S driver & 3W T to yet put together but for now the R7/#5W should be good enough for my slop.

I bought a set of Rawlings Lee Trevino System One blades years ago with the intent of making them wall hangers.

Lately, I've been hitting them on my sim & they are so much more anti-left than my 923 HMPs with PX LS 6.5s. Not sure if this is due to the shaft or the club head or a combo of both, but it has me wanting to get the specs off of them & try to build a modern set with those specs. I don't mind giving up a little yardage to hit them straighter, but the blade are 3 clubs shorter than my HMPs. 7i is equivalent to my PW.

I played a round recently with a set of Mizuno TP15s in the bag. These are just a re-stamped head from the 60s, but fairly rare. I reshafted them with Precision FM 6.5 shafts soft stepped once, just to make them a bit longer to match my preferences.

I hit them pretty well, although I was a bit wild at first as I hadn't warmed up (no range at the course).

They don't feel quite like later Mizunos, such as my MP4s, but they're pretty sweet to play and they look great at address.

I think I shot an 82 with 6 three-putts, and lots of missed putts from 8-ft in. The last picture should help explain why.

First picture is of my friend's ball after he fatted his approach on the short 15th. The red arrow shows the direction of play; the green is just visible in the left of the picture. He somehow managed to stop his ball on a tiny tongue of rough that runs into the big green side bunker. Unfortunately, he was unable to capitalise on his luck.

The greens had been recently punched and dressed. Putting was like a roll of the dice. That's a picture of one of the greens, by the way.

Little, but up close there are noticeable differences. The TP15s have a flanged sole, meaning more weight down low, which the TP9s don't have.

The other difference is only noticeable on the longer irons. The centre peak of the wingback muscle on the TP-15s stays in the middle of the club throughout the set, whereas it moves gradually towards the toe in the TP9s.

I don't have the TP9s, but I do have a set of the US-market MS7s. This picture of the 2i might help explain the difference:

The TP-15s:

To be honest, I prefer the TP-15s.

I had the lefty tp9 model. Very thin sole. No bounce. Very hard to hit. Also had a similar set to what you are describing. Wider flanged sole called silver cup.  Paid 36$ shipped for 3-sw about 15 years ago. Looked like those without the wing back. Played them for a couple years and loved them. Those and ping i3 o size are probably my two favorite sets of irons from the last 10 years. Been playing hm pros last 2 years and finally gave up because I can't stand looking at them. Back to a set of mp60s. Shouldn't have sold the silver cups.

Those Silver Cups were also sold as Johnny Miller signature clubs at some point (note: there are a few different Johnny Miller Mizuno models). Interesting. I've not seen them in left-handed before, and Mizuno are not the most leftie-friendly OEM out there.

The TP-15s I have are probably re-stamped leftover stock from the 1960s, as they look identical to a older Grand Monarch release.

Still good irons, though. Fun to play.

I’ve played a few sets of blades…Baby Blades, Srixon Z945, Kyeoi KK MBs, Yamaha Tour Blades…and just got a set of the Cobra RF MBs and really enjoying them. The heads are SMALL but enjoying the very low offset and the feel is awesome. Going to play round 2 tomorrow but Round 1 was good with zero rangetime beforehand…great price right now from Pro Clubs and I’m sure they’ll have a sale for the next Major…

The Cobra RF MB’s are a set I wish I had purchased. I hit them on a demo day and they were sweet. It was back in COVID times and even though I ordered a set Cobra got back to me saying they couldn’t fulfill due to the lack of components. 😢
